“All colleges and universities are for profit”

Paul F.
3/31/16

It's amazing that people don't realize that all universities are essentially for profit. If that wasn't the case, then why is the student loan debt $1.2 trillion dollars? Actually, most for-profit universities, as they are called, are actually less expensive then the so called, "non profit" universities students end up having to pay out of the yahoo for, and still end up working for the same amount of money as a person who didn't even go to college. The only difference between a for profit university and a "so called" non-profit university is; one has to pay taxes, and the other does not. Some would argue however, that non profit schools allocate most of their funds for the purpose of educating. Really? If that's the case, then explain to me, what does having an elaborate sports team, expensive tuition and fees, and fancy, expensive buildings have to do with getting an education? As for schools that are for profit, they have to strive at providing some kind of quality product to their customers because of competition. Otherwise, they won't remain in business. This is true for any business. The reality is, there is a 100% return on investment for getting a high school diploma which costs nothing for the student. Public schools are truly non-profit because they don't charge the students. And, a high graduate can get a job when he or she graduates for high school. In fact, you can't even get most jobs today without a high school diploma. A college diploma, on the other hand, is expensive, and may not provide that 100% return on investment right away. You do the math; $80,0000 dollars in debt after graduation from college / $50,000 dollars a year starting salary... College degrees are products to be sold regardless of whether the school is "non for profit" or not, plain and simple. This is the cold hard truth. If you don't agree, then, explain why students are in debt? Well let me answer that question for you. BECAUSE A COLLEGE EDUCATION IS NOT FREE. AND, IT IS VERY EXPENSIVE TO GET ONE! So, does it really matter to the consumer if the school was for profit or not? These poor, hard working students are still in debt either way.
