Silenced for Uncovering Corruption: How Flippa Banned Me for Exposing Insider Favoritism and Unethic
November 9, 2024

My experience with Flippa has been deeply frustrating and disheartening, especially in how they apply their policies. Despite successfully selling over 550 websites with consistently positive feedback, I was met with unprecedented scrutiny and unfair enforcement of policies targeted solely at my account. After raising valid concerns about other sellers who were selling unlicensed Codecanyon scripts, my account was banned under the pretext of "policy violations, blackmail because of mentioning their CEO name." This entire ordeal felt less like a policy enforcement and more like retaliation for speaking up.

Throughout my time on the platform, I consistently noticed that Flippa's policies were enforced selectively. For example, I was flagged for offering BIN (Buy It Now) deals, while it's common for other sellers to offer BIN bonuses like unrelated courses or 'buy one, get one free' offers. In my case, my BIN offer was directly relevant to the product, yet I was singled out. Another example was my use of the term "potentially higher margins," which is standard phrasing on Flippa, used by countless other sellers. However, I was forced to remove it, only to face new issues shortly after. Each time I complied with their requests, another rule seemed to appear, making it clear this was not genuine policy enforcement but rather a targeted effort to harass me and my account.

When I reported two specific sellers who were deceptively selling Codecanyon scripts by disguising SaaS products on subdomains while presenting a basic WordPress front page, I expected the same scrutiny to be applied as it was with my listings. Instead, my concerns were disregarded, and no action was taken. Notably, both profiles appear to be indirectly linked to Flippa executives; otherwise, there's no explanation for how they've been able to operate for so long without consequence. Rather than addressing these issues, the Integrity Team, led by Ian McFaul and Rachel O., repeatedly harassed me with demands to change trivial elements of my listings, while other sellers continued these practices unchallenged. When I mentioned my plan to document and escalate these issues to the CEO, they accused me of "blackmail" and permanently banned my account without addressing the actual concerns I raised. It's worth mentioning that two years ago, I left a detailed review exposing these kinds of unethical practices on Flippa. At the time, I was contacted by a respectful representative from Flippa who requested I take it down, and I agreed in good faith. Unfortunately, that individual is no longer with the company.

The harassment I faced was systematic and unrelenting. Both Ian McFaul and Rachel O. Seemed organized in their efforts to push my account off the platform. They would flag my listings for minor infractions while overlooking the same or worse practices in other accounts. After complying with multiple demands, I began to feel this was no longer about maintaining policies but was a deliberate targeting of my account.

After they banned my account, I tried to appeal, sending multiple heartfelt messages explaining the impact of their actions, not only on me but on the 25+ families who depend on the income generated from this business. Many of these families have made commitments based on this income—supporting their children's education, covering medical expenses for elderly family members, and more. Instead of understanding, I was met with cold, dismissive replies like "Thank you for your note, Vijay" repeatedly. I even changed my approach entirely, offering to comply with any specific rules they set, yet my sincere requests were met with sarcasm, showing a clear lack of empathy for the people affected by their decision.

In the end, Flippa's approach is not just a matter of policy—it's about accountability. I believe that their actions represent online bullying in the name of policy enforcement. This experience has left me with deep concerns about how Flippa's Integrity Team operates and the selective enforcement of their rules. If a platform's success depends on fairness, transparency, and trust, Flippa has demonstrated a complete disregard for these principles in my case.

I hope that others considering this platform can see beyond the facade of "policy" and understand the real practices at work here.

Tip for consumers:

There are couple of conspiracy against couple of Flippa executives who stick their job for decades for some reason.

This has been a very negative experience for me on Flippa.
December 19, 2023

This has been a very negative experience for me on Flippa. Especially with their team that checks accounts for policy violations. Otherwise, everything is ok, system, commissions, I had no problems until the moment when they banned my account for a trivial reason. I invested a lot in those businesses we have, almost 10 businesses for sale, Businesses in which I invested over 10,000 dollars, in developers, ads, Facebook ads, Google ads, to promote my flippa businesses. When I woke up one morning and everything was closed, all the work, the money and everything was lost for a reason, I don't even know how: for the email address.

Yes, they only support some information that they cannot prove, who doesn't even verify the information I provide. I had an account where I sold websites and received positive reviews. However, I encountered an issue when I provided a client with an email address for sending me a domain on Namecheap. It turned out that the address was associated with another user who had been banned from their system. I explained to them that I had purchased 10 sites from that user, and they had provided me with everything, including the Namecheap account, email address with analytics accounts, and other necessary information to avoid transferring all the data.

Despite my explanations and referencing Flippa support showed no interest. He insisted on keeping my account banned, even though I adhered to all their rules. I conducted transactions exclusively on Flippa, paid all invoices, directed clients to use Flippa for transactions, maintained positive reviews, and provided support. However, flippa support refused to consider reactivating my account, expressing disbelief in the situation. I find it disheartening to be denied the right to reply, with no effort made to verify the information before banning an account. This has been a very negative experience for me on Flippa.

Otherwise, I have nothing to say, safe transactions, you find clients to sell the business, transaction commissions are ok, you can actually make money. But I don't understand this rule of banning accounts for small things, for accounts that say they are linked. But I didn't even have multiple accounts, I had the misfortune of buying some sites from one whose account was banned. And you will understand how I got banned, as I stated above, I sent the email address from the namcheap account to a client to send me a domain back, on the namcheap account that I bought together with the sites.:

PS: I asked the user who gave me the namcheap account, the email address (for which my account was also banned), together with the sites why it was banned?
He replied that he was banned because he said on his twitter account that flippa has very high commissions. And made other recommendations. These are the reasons. Few reasons to ban an account, plus mine which was not at fault. He just gave me the namecheap account, which had the email address attached, with which this user created the flippa account. As I stated above, he gave me everything to avoid the transfer of ten sites and other information. Finally, that's it, I'm tired, how many messages have I sent to the support, to make them understand that it's a mistake. This is.

I you want to sell on Flippa read this first...
February 10, 2022

After 3 years of being on the platform with over 180+ transactions and only 100% positive reviews yesterday I got a message saying I was banned...

In total, I was banned 3 times because Flippas system always detected some intrusion, or I don't know what in my account but we could always figure it out and it was just the system at fault. This time I was suspended for multiple account use and they suspected that I bid and even won my own auction, can you believe this? (You can check my profile by typing Galaxymun or Fairyvel and check the sold listings, It's called VentureBuildz previously called Roland Fekete.)

I still believe that they will contact me that it's a mistake like the previous 3 cases but still, this is not how you treat a long term seller on your platform who has done nothing but provide the best customer experience to every buyer which resulted in the account staying at 100% positive review for 3 years now. Why on earth would I need to have or create any accounts to bid on my listings when 93% of my stores sold over the years. Thanks to our stores a lot of people are successfully generating profits each month and we are proud of that.

I stand by my stores, I stand by my quality of support and I stand by everything I do and I gave my name and face to it because I want nothing else but to create a successful business on Flippa where I don't have to fear every years or month that some system error or support in a bad mood is going to ban me after worked and developed my profile. I even brought 3 new people to Flippa and since then they successfully established their own businesses.

Already asked Flippa to look into the account they associate my profile with as at this point I suspect that a competitor may be behind the scenes but we will see the response.

Take what you want from this, If you have an established business then there are a lot of other options for you to sell your store and if you want to sell starter stores then I believe Ebay or Shopify exchange is an option. Flippa could be a beautiful platform even a monopoly in their niche if they fixed the ban first ask later mentality as judging by the reviews this is not going well. But if you still decide to sell on Flippa then don't use VPN's (I had to use them because of my day job and I suspect either that or a hack is behind this) and secure your account otherwise you may end up like me and trust me they don't care what you bring to the table or how long you are on the platform when it comes to the bans.

4 Reasons Why You Should STAY AWAY From Flippa
October 8, 2020

Flippa is quite popular on the Internet because of the extensive marketing & the hefty commissions they give out to their affiliates, but the reality is FLIPPA is only "OVERATTED".
I'll share my honest experiences and advise you to STAY AWAY from Flippa or regret later.
1. You can yourself see that Flippa has reported lots of negative reviews on TrustPilot to maintain their postive ratings. Whereas here on SiteJabber they couldn't remove the bad reviews and thus have got poor ratings.

2. If you are a buyer, I warn you that buying anything on Flippa will be fully at your own risk. As there a lot of sellers on Flippa who claim to earn $xxy monthly revenue from their website & their domain is worth $xyz

No claims are verified by Flippa nor they have any responsibility over "truthness" of their listings. And most payment proofs those sellers show are only of some random spreadsheet or any screenshot only.

3. I created an account on Flippa to auction my domains but ended up wasting my time and sharing all my personal details including credit card information with them.
My card was charged $5 and verified for making a bid upto $5000 (according to their policy it'll be refunded within 5 days, but didn't got it back yet)

Next I submitted my national voter ID card to verify my ID. Sadly, Flippa banned me and said you have been banned because Flippa is unable to verify your ID.

Now, everyone knows that ID cards can vary according to the nationality & therefore some error might occur. But instead of asking for another ID, they directly banned me and gave no proper or exact reason why they were unable to verify my ID.

In all other places you will get another chance to resubmit your documents if for any reason the first attempt fails, but on Flippa it isn't the case.

I'm glad though that I didn't make any bid or purchase anything from Flippa, otherwise it too would have gone down the drain.

4. Customer satisfaction isn't their priority with POOR Customer Support & BOT like response.
My ticket no. Is #******* which I raised for the above issue & it wasn't of any help.

I twice asked Flippa what is the exact reason that you are unable to verify my ID. A Flippa representative twice apologized that we are unable to verify your ID and thus your account is banned. You too could face such bot like annoying response.

No other exact reason or clarification has been provided till now and NO info regarding my Card Verification fees refund status is given.

All my personal data and card information is with them and they can't give any guarantee that it won't be shared with any third-party sites (Although their policy prohibits them from doing that for active accounts, inactive accounts may face a risk of such abuse)
(Note: Similar Review I have written on TrustPilot too)

Holding listing payment hostage until users upload selfie for KYC - illegal request
August 21, 2020

Flippa is NOT a financial institution nor does it handle money like bitcoin exchanges.
Inspite of that they're insanely requesting KNOW YOUR CUSTOMER selfies with govt id to be uploaded. Flippa takes payment to list websites and domains on their site. They also take a success fee. But they are not PROCESSING these payments. Escrow dot com and paypal handle the payments and distributing success fees to Flippa. Escrow and Flippa already have their own vetting controls. They have a right to since they are financial orgs. Flippa is not. Flippa's one go at trying to handle payments failed last year. They used assembly payments platform but never bother to get proper money transmitter licenses in the united states. Texas found this out and fined them a few years ago.
So flippa for a money transmitter license in Texas, but never bothered to get licenses in any other state apparently.
So here we have a company that does not currently handle ANY aspect of financial transaction processing but wants KYC info? Nope, not kosher. And now in addition to selfie requests, they want LIVENESS scans. Hilarious.
And Flippa already verifies that sellers own the domains and websites they sell.
There are reports on namepros that flippa is taking listing fees and then suspending sellers who don't verify with selfies.
According USA govt agencies, this is improper.
Even more concerning is the company flippa is using for KYC verification. Sum/sub, a russian company that pretends to be based in London. Their London address shows a maildrop service. With all the meddling in
USA elections by Russia, it's very disturbing for a Russian company to have possession of so many American ids!
It's much more suspicious that nearly all employees are in Russia, but they're tricking people that they're a london company. Sorry Flippa, no SANE Americans want to send their ids AND selfies with ids to a company who appears to have a son of PUTlN IN CHARGE!
So to all potential and current flippa customers, do NOT upload any selfie ids for Flippa.

Flippa.com is Potentially Running a Phishing and Shill Bidding Scheme
July 19, 2018

An employee of Flippa.com named *, suspended my auction listing and then proceeded to ask me to upload a video to a third-party website showing myself logging into PayPal and navigating around my account so that he could "verify" some website income data. He also stated that he wanted me to upload a photo ID with a selfie to a different third-party website of his choosing. And finally, he asked me to fill out a Profit & Loss statement, despite all profit and loss data being present in the auction listing itself. All of this is required to sell a website on their platform worth between $200-$500. I'm guessing that by requesting that I upload all of this data to a third-party website that they are somehow skirting responsibility for the security of such data.

I find it highly suspicious that this absurd request for highly sensitive financial and personal data came after I had already paid for my listing and literally several minutes after I had received bids on it, one of which was from Australia, where Flippa.com is based. This becomes even more suspicious when you consider that Flippa.com employees have been accused numerous times in the past of running shill-bidding scams on their platform to artificially inflate the price of sales and the company's reported earnings.

The PayPal video request breaks PayPal's terms of use agreement, which states users are forbidden from sharing personal account details with anyone. That request combined with needing to see a photo ID with a selfie is extremely suspicious.

I can only conclude that Flippa.com is either run by complete and total idiots or outright criminals. I suspect it's the latter and they're running a phishing scheme. Either way, I'll never do business with them again.

Update: I just reported Flippa and their employee * to PayPal's legal team for attempted phishing, the State of California's Department of Justice, as well as the US Bureau of Consumer Protection. There is no way possible you can require a person to upload a video of themselves logging into a bank account and then publishing it on YouTube, in order to sell them a product or service. That is outright criminal.

Update 2: So let me get this straight, Flippa complained about this review because I published a first and last name of the employee that requested I upload a YouTube video of myself logging into my PayPal account and navigating around the account? So you guys feel that is ok, but publishing the name of the employee who requested it is not ok? How on earth are people this stupid still in business?

Update 3: You have wasted so much of my time and insulted me Flippa, so I'm going to spend the time necessary to publish this review on 30 different forums and business reputation platforms. It's time you are forced out of business. I see thousands of other users are sick of your arrogant and unethical business practices as well. Have a good day.

Update 4: It's time people start naming and shaming specific employees within this company in order to force accountability on to them as well. If you are following orders from the Flippa owners that are highly unethical or outright illegal, then we as customers should be able to publish the specific names of the people acting on the owner's behalf.
