Worst Customer Service I have encountered
April 6, 2020

I purchased 2 TaoTao Boulder 110s for my children for Christmas 2019. After +5 months of dealing with Family Go-Karts/BW Incorporated I feel compelled to share my experience with all of you in the hopes you will avoid the pain we experienced. I understand that these products are "Made In China" and thus of inferior build quality when compared to other machines, so I expected a fair amount of tinkering would be necessary. I am mechanically inclined with a broad assortment of specialty tools (mostly work on heavy equipment) so I felt that the risk of inoperability would be minor. I will share the problems I have encountered so far with these machines briefly. However, the bulk of my review will focus on the exceedingly poor customer service I received from https://www.familygokarts.com/ & its parent company Backer Wencel Incorporated.
Mechanical encountered over 5 months of VERY light use by my children:
Faulty batteries (acid leaks/VERY dangerous replaced both with iGel at my own expense)
Cosmetic/assembly faults (seats don't sit right, plastic chips, frames over-tightened at factory)
VERY LOUD exhaust malfunction on one machine
Multiple brake system failures (scary on a kids' machine!) we found out that once the brakes warm up- ANY contact with moisture caused the piston to hyper-extend effectively locking the pads into the rotors. (as of this writing I have replaced EACH set 3 times-2 at my own expense)
One headlight burn out
One reason I purchased from https://www.familygokarts.com/ was their much touted "customer service" & "warranty" as I knew there would likely be problems given the quality of the product. My experience has horrific. I have saved my communications with them and plan to also file a formal complaint with the BBB of MN. In the interest of brevity please see summary below: (keep in mind this occurred over FIVE MONTHS of respectful email communications):
Discounts (not really) I purchased 2 units over the phone, expecting multiple discounts for a.) purchasing more than one unit b.) signing up for their text service "Gimme 40" & c.) paying cash the salesman spoke VERY rapidly rushed to get me off the phone (even trying to not give me a total once he had my check #) once I received the invoice - I realized that the discounts "overlapped" so I really received one discount. Given that it was Christmas & I was exceedingly busy I just chalked it up to a life experience and moved on.
Abysmal customer service communication was only done by email (at their request-no phone) avg response time was 7.22 days from the email sent to response received; once I was even admonished to "show some respect" that they answered my email at all!
Delays to avoid warranty claims when requesting warranty parts for the brakes, I provided 23 pictures and 9 videos. By month 5, they told me I needed to remove and reinstall again the OEM brakes, then remove and reinstall the incorrect sizes (that they sent me 2x) and redo the videos - realized they were just stringing me along to get to the 6-month warranty expiry
Complete lack of mechanical savvy (especially on the products they sell) - example after providing photos/video evidence of piston freeze https://www.familygokarts.com/ response was that all I needed to do was "grind the pads down" - oh my! Also, they sent the wrong brakes TWICE (sent the wrong part 2x for each machine over two months apart)
In the end my kids have ended up riding these things about 6 hours in total over 5 months as we wait for parts/responses from https://www.familygokarts.com/. My recommendation to you (if you are going to buy a Chinese product) is to seek out an alternative vendor. Prices are very comparable across the spectrum (if you get "free delivery" you just pay for it elsewhere). Learn from my pain. Hope this helps-feel free to reach out to me for more details if needed.

One star to much
January 11, 2020

This has to be the absolute worse business that I have ever dealt with. Ordered 2 Tao TForce 125 and personally talked to Jeff the owner of the company and he guaranteed that they were great 4wheelers and that Tao Tao would take care of any issues that I may have. I bought the extended warranty. However once you buy you can never talk to a live person about any problems you have with the products you purchased.

Upon arrival we had to put them together which I expected, wheels, steering, racks etc. no instructions nothing. After putting them together I noticed there were built 12/17, I bought them in May of 2019. I ask about this and was never answered.

First bike would not start no matter what we did, finally got it started a week later after no one would reply to my email it worked for about 3 hours, however both 4wheelers the batteries went dead after about an hour after they road them, we either had to jump start them or push start them, Mufflers broke of of both 4whellers, frame broke on one and these were never driven on anything but the yard or the flat field on our farm. Bolts missing, falling off, no matter how many times we replaced them including using loctite. It would take forever to get them to reply to the eMail to the point I bought every electronic item there was to get the bike to work or replaced the mufflers, which later they sent 2 replacements after I bought them from other vendors.

The problem went on from May 2019 to Dec. 31.2019 after I contacted my bank and advised them to refund my full amount. They lied every step of the way, the problem is their support team who are rude, never answer their emails or they are so overwhelmed they are not able to and I had enough watching my 6 and 8 yoa Grandsons being frustrated by not being able to ride these things the entire summer, finally I got my money back except for $200.00 which was charged for fuel charges, home delivery and whatever else (so much for free Shipping)

So in short (to late) do not in your best restraint, do not do business with these people, they will not be Honest with you at all, I even was going to trade up to other 4wheelers or go-karts and pay the difference in which they said was double what they were on their site I had everything they needed before Dec 15 and after I inquired no response until Dec 19th which was to late ans someone named cierra as they spelled it, who I believe was Jeff because wording was the same as he spoke and the reply was we will get with you after Christmas or the New Year, ending in Merry Christmas. That was the end I demanded my Money back and it was refunded on Dec. 31st. They had me ship the bikes back first, but Tao Tao paid fr the return shipping as they saw the problem and that was done in Oct. So I had no bikes and they had my money, but somehow they blamed it on me... Be warned STAY AWAY from Family Go-karts Note there is not free shipping go to any other site for the same items and they are cheaper and show you the freight cost which is the same cost at Family go Kart when added up. So its not free...

WARNING! WORST COMPANY EVER! DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THEM!
July 5, 2019

THE WORST COMPANY WHO YOU CAN DEAL WITH!

Customer service is terrible. They do not know what they are doing.
After placing my first order, I had to wait 2 months, because they forget to mention that they do not have the bike in stock!

They are fast to take payments from your bank account and after that they do not give a sxx about you. I gave them $10,000 worth business and they are not even willing to answer emails, phone calls, text messages about the titles or claims or any type of questions.

First order experience:
-had to wait 2 months for bikes, because of their fault (COMPLETE MESS!)
- bikes came damaged, because they used the cheapest company to deliver the bikes and driver was not able to handle shipment so the bikes fell of the truck, NO RESPONSE AFTER CLAIMING DAMAGED for 2 months, bikes are broken and leaking. THEY DO NOT CARE ABOUT YOU!
-titles came in 3-4weeks, so basically you can not use your bike after delivery

Second delivery:
- they shipped out 4 bikes to a residential delivery ONTOP OF EACH OTHER 600lbs (Who the hell does that?) We were not able to place them on the ground, so had to use service which cost $500.00, on top of that one of us got injured, while trying to place them on the ground. IMPOSSIBLE WITHOUT FORKLIFT! I PAID FOR RESIDENTIAL DELIVERY!
-THEY DO NOT CARE ABOUT YOU!
-titles 3 weeks after delivery are still not in the mail
- RUDE RECEPTIONIST, HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE (young girl)
- also they overcharged me for the exact same bikes, they refunded in 3 weeks after emailing them

DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! THEY SHOULD GO OUT OF BUSINESS BASED ON THEIR HORRIBLE WORK!

Powersportsmax GAVE US A great deal. Bikes were delivered in 6DAYS (not business day), titles were in the mail in 3DAYS! BEST COMPANY TO DEAL WITH!

USE POWERSPORTSMAX OR ANYONE ELSE, BUT NOT THESE ANIMALS!

Jeff Becker and the rest should do something else what they are really good at. I am sure their business is dying without normal operation.

Tip for consumers:

DO NOT USE THEM!

USE Powersportsmax.com. THEY ARE EXTRA NICE AND FAST!!!

Horrible customer service refusing to honor warranty
June 6, 2019

Rep. Backer apparently owns Family Go Carts. This post is to show you how shady your representative is:

So we bought my son a 150cc scooter. When wife first contacted this POS company the sales lady told her that there would be MINOR assembly necessary. The sales lady also told her that we would get a $50 rebate that would be subtracted from the bill. Best we can tell they ADDED $56 to our total.

Now. It shipped in a metal cage. The first thing we noticed was that the rear spring was not bolted in place. The bolt was through the eyelet, but the spring was resting on the rear fender, instead of being bolted to the frame. Other parts that required assembly was the front tire, front fender, headlight, handlebars, the mirrors, the battery had to be charged, and the rear luggage rack. THERE WERE NO ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS, the video they sent us was for a completely different model with different parts, was compiled by a "fan", and the only other video on YouTube was a 1:30 video done by a guy in Pakistan that did not go over all the parts. Niether of which discussed the wiring issues that we found, fender installation nor the luggage rack.

So to fix to the rear spring, we ended up having to put it in the back of my truck, use a tow strap to strap the rear tire down and me lift as my cousin pushed the rear frame up while amber moved the spring into place and secured the bolt.

We got everything else assembled, after realizing that you have to drop the license plate bracket to put the luggage rack on, put gas in it and cranked it up. Well guess what. The oil plug has a hole in it so it started spraying oil everywhere. Oh. And the rear cowl... doesnt fit over the seat like it's supposed to. We still have not had resolution in regards to the wiring, nor a commitment to send us an oil drain plug replacement.

We followed the companies guidelines for tech support. We texted pictured as well as emailing them. I just tried calling them. They've been open for about 4 hours at this point. When I called them i was not allowed to talk to tech support. I was told they would have to call me back. Last night I received an email telling me that they would not discuss the issue with me, and to have amber email them. As of 11:42am on June 4th we still don't have a resolution to our issues.

As we can't crank it till the new oil drian plug comes in and i change the oil, we won't know if there are further issues that the company will undoubtedly not fix.

This purchase has been a nightmare. If I could return it easily, I would have already.

Do yourself a favor. Avoid this company. Buy a grom or the Kawasaki zx125

For transparency, I have emailed them this link in order to see if they can justify themselves publicly.

Edit Wednesday June 5th: they have credited Amber's account for the rebate. Despite them requesting amber email them the pictures in order to cut me out of the loop, they still have not answered her emails and it looks like they are breaking all contact.
