No customer service at all and no company response to inquiry on website. Customer service email returned "undeliverable". Phone line always busy. Broken plastic package contained a DEAD plant, not dormant. I've gardened for nearly 70 years so I know the difference. Paid for 4 of one plant type, got 3. (I have photos to prove my complaint but can't get this old computer to cooperate in saving to correct file type.)

Never ships

Burgess and Direct Gardening have the same address and phone number. Last spring I ordered fruit trees from Direct Gardening. They never shipped, each time I called they were going out next. Finally disputed charge with my credit card company because they did not want to return money. This spring I ordered trees and seeds from Burgess not knowing it was the same company. They did not ship in the timeframe listed. Tomato seeds have no value if not planted early enough. Their excuse was they were waiting on my climate to be right. First, bare root dormant trees can be put out now. Second, seeds like tomatoes need to be started indoors early. It sure appears this company is nothing but a scam. People need to contact the Illinois Attorney General and fill out an online complaint form if you are also being scammed by them running under multiple names. Absolutely horrible company that should not be allowed to do business.

Unacceptable Delay
May 19, 2022

Ordered my product in March ($100 worth of plants). They advertise shipping plants when it's appropriate for your climate zone. They shipped $10 of my order and now say the rest of my order won't be shipped for 3 more months. It's May 19th as I write this review. That means the order won't ship until end of August. Considering our growing season ends in September, it seems I won't be planting any flowers or veggies this year. Waste of time and money. Useless company with ZERO customer service. Don't bother ordering because you'll likely never see your order in full. I'll be reporting them to the Better Business Bureau. Complete scam...

Ordered on April 2nd, still waiting in June for the last item. Took about 5 weeks to get the strawberry plants. Now it's hot in TN and the plants are so small and late, doubtful of getting any fruit this summer. No update emails came from Burgess notifying you when to expect shipment. Thought they'd delivered it to the wrong address but no, just over 2 months for a $35 mushroom log. First and last time I order from Burgess

Horrible service!

My mom (in her 80s) ordered several plants from Burgess in March, including strawberries, blackberries, trees. She had not received her order by the first of May. She had called numerous times, the line was always busy. She even wrote the company a letter asking her order be cancelled and her money be refunded (of course her check had been cashed right away) as it was getting too late to plant the items she ordered. No response whatsoever. Her order arrived in mid-May! Nothing she could do at that point except plant the plants and hope for the best. This company should be out of business. Do NOT order from them. I know my mom won't.

Last order

Have ordered from them in the past with about a 30% success rate. They claim you can return for refund, but there is never anything left to return. This year I made a $11 order of stuff I can't get anywhere else on April 10th, with $10 shipping. On May 4th they charged my account. Still don't have my items. Have contacted them many times and they just keep saying it is coming soon. Asked them to at least refund the shipping as it is ridiculous to pay that much and wait this long, but they didn't even address that. Really doubting I will even receive this order at all. Don't recommend purchasing from them.

Burgess is a great place to order from if you are into dead plants. I should have remembered the sticks-in-the-mud I ordered from them in the past because again, more dead plants arrived for me to waste my time on. This time, I ordered forsythia hedges and festuca grass. Both were DOA! I planted them anyway, just to see if I misjudged and no dice. Also, these deadies arrived about 3 months after I ordered them online and the company did not supply any tracking data until I e-mailed them for it. I should have ordered from Amazon or eBay where I found excellent petunia plugs before. How Burgess stays in business is a mystery. I will never recommend them to anyone I care about.

Plan to get your plants 6 months after you expect to receive them. Their website will show they are available to hip... but they never leave the warehouse. The dates just keep pushing out every week or 2 until they say 'backordered'. The representatives on chat and phone will tell you they are 'notifying the shipping dept to expedite your order' but nothing will happen for another couple of months. I cant even tell you if the plants are a good quality because I havent seen any and they were supposed to ship 3 months ago. You are better off ordering elsewhere if you want to receive anything during the actual planting season.

My real rating is 0. I wish I would have seen these reviews prior to my purchase - I would not have ordered any items. Horrible customer service, I could not reach them on the phone because the # doesn't work. After several attempts to cancel my order only recieved email saying that I can't cancel it. My order took over 2 months to get. The quality of the items I received was sad - dead to little life left in the 25 plants I purchased. I carefully planted them, but not expecting anything to live. Do not buy from this company - the better business bureau should shut them down.

Six week late delivery of fruit trees Sent to wrong address, customer service people who don't speak English well enough to be understood or able to correct the wrong address. I still don't have my trees. I give Burgess a ZERO score. Never again!

We decided to give Burgess Seed & Plants a try... their catalogue shows such beautiful varieties of plants. We understood the fully grown plants shown in pictures wouldn't be what they actually would send; but we were confident the small plants would grow into a beautiful additions to our yard.

The Burgess website gives some bs about sending plants at optimal planting for your specific region. Well, spring has long past and we're entering the heat of summer and we still haven't received plants we ordered the first week of May. I emailed asking if they could move things up... and there was no reply. I did manage to get hold of a customer service rep who just echoed the same bs about optimal planting.

Would I ever ordered from Burgess again? No chance. FYI we did order from Bluestone Perennials and received our plants in less than a week. Those plants, while small, arrived healthy, moist and well packed and are thriving in our garden. Burgess could take a page out of Bluestone's book.

Website bad

Tried to put in a 100.00 order it was imposable just to pick things out unbelievable bad website took an hour to get to my cart and cant check out have to try somewhere else don't waste your time like I did very sad

Wish I had read other reviews before placing a $48 order. Burgess charged my credit card 6 weeks before I received their worthless product. Multiple attempts to email did not produce the courtesy of a reply; daily attempts to reach them failed only to get a constant busy signal as if the phone was off the hook. Finally received the order which was a joke. Bare root products were so intertwined that I couldn't even separate them to plant. Only 2 plants lived. So I disputed the charge and had my bank reverse the charge. They had the gall to send me a letter stating they would charge my card again which they did. Keep the $48. I will never buy from them again and highly recommend no one do business with this company.

I ordered several items on 4-5-21 finally got the tomato trees on 5-26-21 two of witch were dead and the other two is very unlikely to survive. The berries have already lost a month of growing season. Local straw berries are almost ripe. The only thing EBERGESS is on top of is charging your credit card that was done within a day or two. Don't waste your money. Wish I could give zero stars

It only took 4 months to get part of my order and most of that was dead already. This is twice this company has ripped me off. Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me. Never again I will use there catalogs for toilet paper because that's all they are good for. Do your self a favor and don't order from them and buy your plants at your local nursery.

DISAPOINTED
May 25, 2022

On Mar 6 we ordered 12 tomato plants and some potatoes. The potatoes arrived on time the tomatoes were a different story. They were supposedly shipped May 14. After a while I contacted your company because they had not arrived. I talked to several people with a heavy Indian accent and received several different estimated delivery dates. Finally I found out that FedEx would deliver them. I tracked the plants and the delivery date kept being set back. Ten days later they arrived by USPS. The box was badly damaged the plants were DEAD. None of the plants were labeled. WHAT HAPPENED? I will never buy plants from them again. Bob in Coopersburg

Nothing that I can say that hasn't already been said. It has bee 2 months and have not received my order and cannot get a status. Phone is always busy and they don't respond to emails. COVID is a convenient excuse for them but I have not had problems with other plant companies.

BUYER BEWARE!
June 23, 2017

To start out it took forever and several phone calls to get my order delivered. Half the
Plants were dead. It's not worth the hassle to send them back and after reading other reviews I probably wouldn't get any satisfaction. My order included four climbing roses that were advertised as red but I am finding out now that they are white. I guess I should be happy that they are alive. I will NEVER order from this company again!

Replacement order then they canceled then sent bill. Please read email says 0 owed, Where they canceled on thier site and bill sent me. I have more proof than here. They are affiliated with direct gardening and main seems to be garden alive.

Love my plants

Burgess has been my go to for plants for years. They take a while to ship right now due to covid staff shortages but you will be pleased with your order when you receive it. They include a newspaper for planting instructions and have a huge variety. I absolutely would recommend ordering but keep in mind that their shipping is very slow and only ship when your plants are to be planted. They also love to give freebies with the orders. Be patient! LOVE THEM!
