I really like the app except on the speaking exercises with the blue microphone don't work 95%of the time. Duolingo customer service is really different to get a hold of. I have tried to use their automated help with this issue but it doesn't help. Other than that it's a good app.
I have been using the platform for about 2 weeks. I have noticed that it has a homosexual agenda, both in the characters and eventually the dialogue. I would not recommend this company for anyone, especially children and youth. It is a "grooming" site for perverse behaviour.
The new format is horrible. The CFO is clearly an idiot. His arrogance is going to lead Duolingo downwards. Only when the losses mount up, will he be forced to go back to the original format. It will be too late though. I'm saying good riddance Duolingo. Hello Babbel!
Duolingo teaches me a lot and, in conjunction with my excellent French teacher, in class, I have progressed a lot since joining. I love the stories and most things about the language course but I have a strong complaint.
I think that the site has been updated well since you removed the "report a problem" section but I no longer have the opportunity to object when I write original English, exactly and grammatically as I would normally say it, only to be told that my answer is wrong! The most regular one that I am being corrected on now is when I am asked to translate, " J'ai seulement un centime" and I write, that I have only one centime which is entirely correct and also the way I speak. There are several similar similar phrases where this occurs. I am sure the translations in other languages which have variant gramnar, are not rejected, so why should mine be. I know how to speak my language better than you do just as a Japanese person does, so my answer, written in my mother tongue instead of in yours, should be accepted.
I subscribed to Super Duolingo and found it to be a great improvement over the free version. Within a week, however, I suddenly had no access to the Super Duolingo that I had paid for. Then, I was able to use it by signing onto the web, but could not 'speak answers' or access the leader board. Repeated requests for assistance have gone unanswered. VERY DISAPPOINTING!
Purchased Duolingo for our business. Spent thousands and thousand of dollars for the subscriptions. Wanted to inquire about features that are listed on the website for subscribers but have had no luck getting in contact with anyone. I have been trying for 2 months. Sent tons of emails and when I call the help number it gives the same email that I have been emailing this entire time that I have heard nothing back from. Very frustrating that they can't even help their own customers out when they have spent a lot of money on their product. We have plants all over the US and we were going to recommend it to them but after these issues I have changed my mind.
I used this site for years for trying learning languages. Year by year they become more greedy and worse, pushing their Paid Plus Subscription. Non existent costumers service. They removed forums were people could interract eachother for language ex change tips, so they dont allow anymore that people have a voice on there. Their recent update was the drop that filled the glass and made unbearable and frustrating to use this site... Do not recommend. Avoid this crap. There are better sites out there for learning languages
My family and I have enjoyed using Duolingo. However recently it has gone downhill very fast. Top issues are:
There is absolutely no way to get a hold of anybody at Duolingo. I tried providing feedback and emailing, and received an email that I will not get a personal response. Wait what?!?!
The application itself is misfunctioning on a daily basis now. And because you can't reach anybody, there's nothing getting fixed.
I purchased the plan for a year, and I will be switching to Babel when my subscription ends. Mainly because every business, including Duolingo, needs to have some sort of customer service.
I am studying 5 languages on Duolingo and have been with them since 2018. Their approach does have merit so I wouldn't be totally negative by any means. I have learned a great deal consistently from the app having missed less than 10 days of learning and I have memorized over 1500. Words in that time. The reason I don't rate it any higher is for the following: I) lack of customer support, 2) treating language learning as a competitive game exclusively by promoting and demoting people according to changing point structures at their whims. Learning language IS NOT a game, but a serious endeavor! I will be looking elsewhere soon. At the same time I am positive about Duolingo's future and will continue to work on it and support it. They gave me two years for free and I decided to give them money in appreciation. Thanks Duolingo!
While i found Duolingo to be a sufficiently useful tool for introducing a new language, be prepared for a very frustrating time if you wish to cancel. I have spent the better part of the day trying to stop the automatic renewal with no positive results. There seems to be no phone number for customer service or any other assistance offered by Duolingo. This problem seems to be fairly prevalent in that there are companies established to help navigate disgruntled subscribers (for a hefty fee) through this maze. My humble advice would be to stay clear of Duolingo unless you are willing to commit for the rest of your life.
For an app, it's absolutely useful and and helpful! It has a very interactive platform with an amazing user interface. Just absolutely great experience..
Although convenient to use, I am growing increasingly frustrated with this platform the longer that I use it. The learning tools are scarce and, to often, the content is patently unfair - it requires the user to resort to brute force memorization with very limited tools to educate yourself why an answer might be wrong. Also, very frustratingly, an answer is often scored as incorrect for reasons that are not explained. I'd go elsewhere if you are looking for a language learning tool.
Pros:
- Daily repetition can help build up memory and a bit of confidence in learning a language. However, the progress is like the walking speed of ants.
- There are people who are fluent in the language to answer your question and doubt (Only IF you are not banned from speaking on the discussion forum in the first place).
- Practice questions are plentiful and in various forms which helps in learning the language in depth.
- It's free but you actually end up spending more time watching ads and playing games than learning the language.
Cons:
- Duolingo actively sensors personal opinions. If you made any comment against their belief, you will be banned from posting any question/answer in learning the language without any prior warning or explanation of the reason why you were banned. So to speak, you will lose your right to speak in the "language discussion" forum indefinitely and you can't find anybody or anywhere to straighten things out. They act exactly like a dictator in a communist country.
- A word of caution to people who prefer traditional mentality, Duolingo is promoting the LGBT mentality to its core.
- Duolingo is for beginners in learning a language. It helps you get an idea of a language but you need to move on to more effective language teaching classes/books/websites... if you really want to be fluent in the language you are learning.
My daughter enjoys the app on her Ipad. She uses it to learn some languages. She especially likes using it while in the car and it keeps her busy and happy. It's easy to use so she does not need my help.
I love it is just a great learning thing. The thing is a lot of people love it so it is good for any age but like this age is are the not good for Duolingo 1 2 3 4 5 but if they can read give them a try be able to but to be able to learn new words
Great app to learn languages all my family are using it to learn a second language, I am learning Italian and my kids are learning French
In the free version (nothing is free; you are bombarded with advertisements) you are pestered till the edge in order to subscribe to the paid version. Really everything is done to frustrate you. And yet they claim it is an educational app. Don't make me laugh!
One of the best language learning apps is free. Amazing. It teaches you by having you answering questions and inferring the content. Quite brilliant. I try and do a lesson nightly before bed when I can. One minor complain though: I think having fictional languages like Klingon is fun but there's so many other real languages you don't have. Why not Georgian for example, one of the worlds first writing systems. Or many other languages.
Excellent language-learning application!
It works extremely well with IOS and Android. The lessons are short and very effective! It's a pleasure to use it on a daily basis. I couldn't recommend it more!
A really great site to learn new language giving just 5 minutes of your day. It helped me to learn Spanish from basics.
Answer: Legit company. Its fully real and WILL NOT steal your family.
Answer: It's free. Other platforms offer you free services until a specific level. Duolingo doesn't do that. You can remain as a free user all the time.
