“Wow! Talented designers are within reach, and within budget.”

Second time user, another great experience all around. Got exactly what we needed. Communication and sharing of files made easy. We recommend Designhill to connect with great talent. Our first engagement was to set up a design contest (for a marketing brochure.) A dozen talented designers sent their drafts, it was hard to narrow it down to just a few. The eventual winner not only had a great eye for creating attractive layouts, but also took the time to understand our business. For our second project with Designhill, instead of a contest we created a project (trade show display) and engaged with the same designer. Great results both times.

“Be cautious of scams”

Be cautious with this website for designers, as they may deceive you given the chance. There are numerous tricks they employ to deceive people. In my case, the money for a 1-1 project was not released to me. It's strange, my client suddenly disappeared after I provided the design, and when I reported it to the support team, there was no response; they never replied to my messages, and even the live chat button on my account disappeared. I suspect my IP address was blocked, but when I use a VPN to access this website, I can engage in live chat. Be careful; if possible, try to find designers outside of this website.

PROS & CONS:

Customers:
Pro: Low prices and dozens of desings to choose from.
Cons: Most of the designs are poor quality or with copied elements that you cannot legally use in your logo.

Designers:
Pro: You can build a portfolio.
Cons: Spec work; you will work for free most of the time, and the competition is unfair. Designhill contest and Printshop challenges do not award original good quality artworks, they prefer what their customers like; pretty pre made images from the web.

If you are a customer and need a logo safe to trademark my advice is to hire a professional graphic designer or illustrator, but if you prefer these contest for the low prices, take the pro contest, avoid the regular cheapest one, and before chosing a winner, check the designer's portfolio for signs of coherence and style through all their artworks, and most important make an inverse image search in google images or similar, to check if the designs they've made already exists somewhere else.

If you are a talented designer or artist, stay away from Designhill (unless you need to create or update your portfolio), because you will be competing against designers from Indonesia, Bangladesh and India that repeatedly use copied graphic elements, eventually the customer will choose a pretty logo made this way, instead of a well designed original logo, they simply do not know the difference.

I have participated in many of their contests and reported many copycat designers, but Designhill do not ban them, therefore if you are not an artist but know how to make a clip art composition or copy other people's designs, sign in! You have a good chance of winning a contest in Designhill, or a challenge in their sister website; PrintShop.

You will get a ton of designs, but many will be copied elements that you cannot legally use in your logo. There is poor quality control on the designs submitted, and you will need to do your own legwork to see if the elements are copyrighted or not. Language barriers are extremely difficult when working with designers and DesignHill Support. The customer service staff's english is really bad and they don't understand you, and the designers themselves most don't speak english and won't understand any requests for modifications. Extremely frustrating and time consuming experience. You can hire a dedicated professional at this price - do that instead.

I recently ran a logo contest and had generally good results in getting different ideas. After that, it went downhill. As we went into the refining phase, the designer just could not grasp what we were looking for. All we were asking was to use brighter colors (less masculine). They kept sending the same logo. When we got the artwork, the PSD files were compressed and uneditiable. We asked them to unpack the layers and that took several attempts. We never got the font used and the way he built the logo makes even small edits a complete do-over. I then engaged their helpdesk to ask for assistance in communicating with the designer. On top of the logo, we also asked for a facebook design and t-shirt design. The designer simply did not build either in the style of the logo, or even close to the style. The helpdesk said they would take it "in house", and completed the design (facebook design was acceptable, t-shirt was poor at best (you can do better work going to an online tshirt shop). It then has taken me five interactions with their helpdesk simply to get the files that I paid for (AI, PSD, etc.). It has simply taken me way too much time to get what seems to be a simple request.

If you want a good logo, i think they do an acceptable job. If you want a relatively easy transaction, go somewhere else. If you want good support, don't start here.
