If you value your privacy, this is not for you
October 26, 2022

Nutshell:
-If you value your privacy, dont sign up for this. Identity theft is real and they wont do anything to prevent it.
-If you dont comply with sending them complete pictures of very important documents, they can freeze your account and they will still get paid for your purchases while you wont.
-As other have stated here, their customer service is lazy and they will just copy and paste responses rather than addressing your issues (they'll probably do the same below with a "copy and paste" response like with everyone else).
-Your account will be frozen unless you comply and give up your privacy. They'll hold your cashback and tell you "it's yours really, just give us what we ask for." You wont comply, you lose your cashback and they'll get it.
-Most of you will be happy with them since you wont mind sending sensitive information to them and that's why they'll continue with these policies. This review is for the minority that does care about privacy.
-Why not hire a website like iDenfy, SheerIf, etc? That seems like a viable solution.
Some context:
Had been a Befrugal member plus USAA for cashback and was looking for something more profitable. A friend told me about this. I signed up for it and a few days later, there was a $75 offer for Staples. I had no intentions of buying something at Staples but it was free $75. I placed the order and then got the email confirming I got $75. Tried to log in to retrieve the cash back and was told my account was flagged. (I can only assume that me valuing my privacy and having a VPN caused this flagging. They wont tell you what caused it to deter others from committing fraud so who really knows?) Emailed them and got a generic response telling me in a few words that I needed to send them a copy of my state issued id. Strange for a cashback site you'd think? They said it's in their terms, which it is. Seems like a valid concern to not provide such important information so I sent the pictures and blocked out the important information. Name, picture and address were all visible. Apparently, that wasnt enough. Their solution? Submit it securely in the website. How secure can a cashback website be for important documents? Financial institutions dont ask me for these when applying for car loans or credit cards. They'll say, you can send us other documents instead. Why on earth will I send them a complete, clear picture of passports or birth certificate or whatever other options they have? They might make sense to some of you but for someone who has dealt with identity theft before, providing such things doesnt seem wise and they dont, at all, seem to understand that. Perhaps hire a website that does this for you and are experts on these and only exclusively do this type of verification? That seems reasonable enough. Back to that Staples purchase, I already paid for it and got notified it qualifies. They will indeed get paid by the merchant. I wont. Apparently, we should "think of CouponCabin as [our] partner in cash back in that [they] only get paid when [we] do." I guess that's not accurate for those customers who dont want to become potential victims of identity theft. They will get paid by Staples. I didnt and I wont since i wont send them my sensitive information. It's a free service so know that we shouldn't question it or complaint about it. We agreed to it when we signed up for it. It's in the terms. I saw it and they're right. We should just comply and obey. Because:

CouponCabin is a completely free service that provides its members with substantial cash back rewards for clicking links and making online purchases. That said, CouponCabin has systems in place which are designed to protect both our 10,000,000+ cash back members, like yourself, and our 3,500+ cash back partner stores. In part, it's because of these systems that CouponCabin can offer such INCREDIBLE cash back offers, like $100 back on $100 orders, that you just can't find anywhere else. Account verifications typically take just a few minutes and once verified, accounts are immediately restored. If you're uncomfortable sending us your state-issued photo ID, there are seven other documents that you can use to verify your account. Please note that this information is in no way shared or used for any purpose other than this account verification and once the process is complete, all documents are permanently deleted.

There you go folks. That'll be their response. Coupon Cabin Staff, I saved you a reply. You're welcome. Rest of the readers mindful about privacy, I hope I can save you a headache on time.

Successfully Sued CouponCabin in Small Claims Court, also won in Court of Appeals
October 8, 2021

Today is October 8th, 2021. This will likely be my final update regarding my experience with CouponCabin. Back in January, 2019, my account was terminated due to the customer service rep's perception that I had threatened legal action following my attempts to get clarification regarding a change in status to my account. Basically, I was notified that I could only receive paper checks due to the detection of "unnatural activity" from my account and/or computer network. The CSR would not explain what this was, and to this day I do not know what this was. At any rate, there was a bit of a back and forth, and due to a comment I made, the CSR chose to terminate my account. However, the CSR also told me that my account was in good standing prior to its termination, and after its termination, the CSR notified me that I would receive a check for the amount pending in my account.

I never received the payment owed, so I made multiple attempts to contact CC to resolve the issue. The times I wasn't ignored, I was told to send a letter to their legal department. In February 2019, I sent their legal department a formal demand letter. Their lawyer responded by essentially telling me that I had the option to sue them.

I filed complaints with various agencies, though none had the power to do anything.

In January, 2021, I finally decided to sue them in Small Claims Court in Lake County, IN, per the requirements set forth in their Terms and Conditions.

In February, 2021, a hearing was held via Zoom. CC's CEO presented their case, I presented mine. The judge ruled in my favor.

In March, 2021, CC hired a law firm to represent them in an appeal.

The appeals process is somewhat lengthy given that the court had a certain amount of time to prepare transcripts, and CC's lawyer had a certain amount of time to file an appellant brief, and I had a certain amount of time to file an appellee brief, etc.

In early July, 2021, all documents were submitted to the 3-panel judge that reviewed the case.

In mid-August, 2021, the Appeal's Court affirmed the lower court ruling. That is, I won again.

CC had the option to request a rehearing or try to have the case transferred to the Supreme Court, but they evidently declined to do that. In mid-September, 2021, they submitted payment to the court, and a week later, I received a check for the amount I had pending in my account (the amount I had sued for) plus the fee for filing the case, which was $97, plus about $7 in interest.

The judgement has now been certified. As far as I am concerned, the issue is now resolved.

There are barriers to suing CC in court, so I know this is an option that few people, if any, will choose, especially given the fairly low amounts of money at stake versus the amount of effort required. So to that end, you can at least take solace in the fact that someone did take this action and did so successfully, winning both in Small Claims Court and in the Court of Appeals. Further, I did not hire an attorney, choosing instead to handle all of this myself, so it can be done even if it's not the option for everyone.

Deceptive and misleading business practices
May 24, 2021

This company promises cash back to its customers who make purchases at various online retailers through its website. I recently made such a purchase on Walmart's website by clicking on an offer for a special "member's only" 25% cash back deal featured by CouponCabin. I made this purchase following all rules and restrictions noted under the offer on couponcabin's website. I also took screenshots of this purchase process on couponcabin's site and confirmed afterward it was tracked by couponcabin by checking my clicks history under my CouponCabin profile, which I also took a screenshot of. After all of this, I was still not credited with my promised cash back, in this case an amount of $12.58. I submitted a missing cashback request through the support link from CouponCabin to do this, but the company wouldn't agree to credit the cashback blaming the retailer for the problem of not tracking my purchase. This was not the first time I've experienced issues receiving cash back from purchases I made through this business as this same situation happened to me on at least two other occasions previously, during which I also submitted missing cash back requests and had the same result of not receiving my expected cash back. Additionally, only one of these "member's only" deals are available for customers to claim every 30 days, so even if you click/claim one of these featured deals and you don't receive your cashback, you are still unable to claim another special members only deal for 30 more days due to this restriction. These deals are very representative of click-bait and deceptive for the customers who are expecting these to work and they find out only after making their purchase, that they don't and have no recourse even if they abide by all of Couponcabin's rules and restrictions in place. CouponCabin has been deceiving their customers by featuring misleading advertisements for cashback that they will not honor and choose to blame on the retailer and ultimately the customer. I made very respectful requests first through CouponCabin's process for the missing cash back, and was followed up with over email by the company. When this measure failed to provide any resolution and CouponCabin only continued to blame Walmart for the issue, I reached out to couponcabin over their Facebook page and their facebook messenger and never received any response. Most recently, I filed a complaint regarding this matter with the Better Business Bureau to attempt to resolve this with the company, but instead of choosing to work with me at all, CouponCabin instead chose to retaliate against me and closed my account specifically because I filed the complaint with the BBB. I have an email saved from the "Vice President of Member Services", indicating this exact reasoning for closing my account. I should not have had to take this to this level, but I feel that CouponCabin's deceptive and potentially fraudulent activities I've outlined here need to be reported for the sake of other consumers who may be considering their services.

Tip for consumers:

Rakuten is much better

Account deactivated and all cash back STOLEN by CouponCabin based on lies
August 27, 2018

I've been a CouponCabin member for more than two years, and I recently tried to log in to my account to make a purchase, only to see that it had been deactivated due to alleged "violations" that I did not commit. When trying to resolve what is obviously some kind of error by CouponCabin, "Shay M. Vice President of Customer Satisfaction" responded to declare that I had "severely violated" terms that, again, I did not violate. I repeatedly tried to tell her that there's obviously been some kind of mistake and requested that she look into it, but she ultimately refused to help me or restore my account and cash back earnings, to which I informed the company that I plan to take legal action. I had a decent amount of cash back in my account, earned honestly and in accordance with the terms and conditions set forth by CouponCabin, that the company is attempting to steal from me. And there's no phone number to call to try to get this all sorted out with a real, live person, requiring email exchanges that CouponCabin can, and will, proceed to terminate if you don't accept their judge, jury, and executioner ruling that you're guilty so long as they say so! It's basically CouponCabin's word against mine, and based on the responses I can see that CouponCabin has given to many other people on this board who've been similarly falsely accused of "violations," it's obvious that the customer is always wrong at CouponCabin. This company's business model clearly does not involve taking customer service matters seriously. Because of this breach of good faith and attempted theft of my earnings, I plan to pursue the matter to the full extent of the law if it isn't properly resolved, as this company needs to be held accountable for this unlawful behavior. And I strongly encourage anyone else who's experiencing similar inappropriate treatment and/or illegitimate account deactivation to do the same.

Update: Sam's canned statement below, stating that "when accounts are identified as trying to get around these rules, we have no choice but to close those accounts," only proves my point, and just goes to show how this company operates and treats its honest customers. Once again, I did NOT violate any terms or conditions, but CouponCabin doesn't even care to investigate the matter or try to make things right. If CouponCabin falsely accuses you of trying to "get around the rules," then you're automatically guilty of these false claims, and the company will proceed to seize your cash back and shut down your account, as you can clearly see here. If this has happened to you, my suggestion is to contact a lawyer and get the authorities involved, as this is criminal behavior. To those who are considering signing up for CouponCabin, don't! There are plenty of other reputable cash back programs out there that won't falsely accuse you of committing "violations," only to mistreat you when you try to get the matter resolved in a civil, decent matter. Do yourself a favor and AVOID CouponCabin like the plague.

Scam?
December 16, 2017

At first Coupon Cabin works great. I was a customer for a year until my experience with this company convinced me of their untrustworthy business practices. Doing my Christmas shopping, I noticed a promotion on Coupon Cabin for a generous cashback purchase at Eastbay. I clicked on the promotion, which told me I had qualified for one of the few limited promotions, and was led to the site. The promotion warned "select" Nike and Adidas products not included in the promotion. I was careful to choose a pair of Nike basketball shoes for my son that didn't include the phrase "excluded from further discounts or promotions" and purchased those shoes and was even able to apply another coupon to the purchase(which proves these shoes weren't part of the "select" exclusions). When I didn't receive the promised cash back I made an inquiry with customer service. They responded back with something like, "We're on your side because if you don't get paid we don't get paid." However, when I pushed customer service to address the facts or perhaps escalate my claim, each time they responded that my purchase was excluded, but didn't explain in detail why; they would say "select" Nike excluded, but didn't specify what that meant. Note, I checked other cashback websites who state something like "excludes Jordan" for example. Finally, I asked customer service to get my concern to a manager or I would contact the BBB. They responded that my bully-like behavior and threats would not be tolerated and canceled my account. I responded back that I had submitted the complaint to the BBB and that calling customer bullies was probably not a good idea. The customer service rep responded back that she'd let her brother, the CEO know about my concerns. So, it doesn't appear I was a victim of bait-and-switch, rather bait-and-switch-off! OK, after going back-and-forth with the BBB and the business responding with empty answers, the BBB closed the case marking it as customer unsatisfied but that the business had responded. Now there is no way for me to know whether Eastbay paid Coupon Cabin for my business. I can only surmise that since the cashback offer was generous, the company perhaps pockets the proceeds, and if the customer complains, the company simply cancels the account. Obviously, this is only an educated guess and my opinion-I can't know for sure. It would appear the company has no fear of negative push back as they respond within the BBB system with stock, empty and non-sequitur answers. There are sufficient positive reviews on this site, BBB site and others to minimize the impact of a single negative review, so they perhaps have no fear of cheating a customer. Do they load this site and others with fake positive reviews? Again, there is no way for me to know and therefore only an opinion and I may very well be wrong. Nonetheless, I urge others with similar experiences to send negative reviews. I wish I had known before developing a relationship with this company it would end-up as an aggravating waste of time. There are other cashback sites I'm sure will be glad to have my business. You should look elsewhere too.

Such a scam!
October 16, 2017

I have actually been a longtime member of Couponcabin and have used it to save at least a couple of hundred dollars over two years, which is nothing to be scoffed at. However, they have a very faulty technical system and that is coupled with a less than optimal customer service team.

1) Couponcabin has a rule about not allowing members of a household to avail of the "members only" offers. Which is a confusing rule to begin with because it's not like members of a household would confer with each other every time they are making a purchase. Especially once you install the couponcabin sidekick app which reminds you to check their offerings before you shop.

2) Their system of identifying so-called violators of their terms is by using IP addresses. This is EXTREMELY problematic given how many people might be using the website at coffeeshops or other public places. Or, in my case, using a building wifi. How IP can be a reliable way of determining household is beyond me.

3) I was recently blocked from Couponcabin and had my account permanently closed. Their reason was that multiple members of the same household availed of their special offers. At the same time that my account was shut, they also shut the account of a friend in my building. As I explained to Couponcabin, us using the same wifi is not the same as us living in the same household. That is an absurd claim. They then emailed both of us saying that we had opened multiple other accounts using the same IP address. Which, of course, we hadn't. Shouldn't the existence of a number of accounts at the same IP suggest that many people are in fact using it and therefore it is probably a public wifi?

4) While couponcabin paid me most of my pending balance, they refused to extend the same courtesy to my friend from the building. So the friend whom I referred to Couponcabin is now out a bunch of money that he spent upon my referral. This is grossly unfair to both him and me. I do not understand why they would apply the rules differentially like this.

We have exchanged many back and forths with the Couponcabin customer service team, and frankly, they only reply with rather curt and rude scripted emails. They do not respond to specific questions and explanations.

I would not say that you shouldn't use Couponcabin, but if you do, be extremely careful. Otherwise you might end up spending a lot of money thinking you are getting a good deal and end up having spent more than you might have otherwise. Simply because Couponcabin decides to rescind its coupon to you.

I also expect that if at all they reply to this complaint, it will be in the standard "we have very few rules" script that they have already used in response to other similar reviews on Sitejabber. I find this kind of customer service, without regard to longterm users, to be rather shocking in today's day and age of excellent customer service.

I'd also like to add, as a final point, that it is rather insulting on the part of Couponcabin to assume that some people might have the time and energy in their lives to set up endless Couponcabin accounts just to "violate their terms and condition". The simpler answer must be that their identification system is so patently faulty.
