I just posted a factual review about how much of our property they destroyed and how they refuse to make reparations. I see many other reviews with similar experiences. Seriously considering a class action suit against Clutter.com. If you are interested, please send an email to iinfo@ *******@classactiondemolishedbyclutter.com. If my email address has been blocked, please send me a message in response to this posting.
They are negligent with intent. DO NOT USE CLUTTER.COM. Starting a class action lawsuit based on the large number of similarly affected people.
Packing, moving and storage services. They do offer packing, shipping, storage, return and unpack services. We used all services.
I signed up for a storage moving service unit via Clutter.com. This is the initial offer page:https://www.clutter.com/locations/california/san-diego/storage
This is what I read that satisfied what I needed from the service:
"Now with Clutter, you can ACCESS San Diego storage units across the city, including popular neighborhoods like, Bankers Hill, Camp Pendleton, Del Mar, Escondido, La Mesa, Morena, Old Town, Pacific Beach, Sorrento Valley, Tierrasanta, and more."
In reality - and hidden behind a hyperlink buried in a FAQ - I have no access to my property without paying the remaining contract of $500 USD. And my "local pickup" to retrieve my property is 2 hours (with good traffic in Fontana) when it clearly states I'd have access to a storage unit in San Diego.
Upon filing a claim, they say if I had clicked away from the page and look at the buried FAQ, I would see what I was signing up for. Obviously, this is not how it works in 2023, and I would have used a different service if I knew this was the actual service provided!
I'm furious they are holding my property for ransom and then using what the FTC calls "unscrupulous tactics" to try to send the burden back to me, when I read the offer page and signed up accordingly.
Obviously in FTC requirement point #2, not having access to my property and having a pickup location 2 hours away was not listed on the signup page as well. Otherwise I never would have done it.
Their Google ad ALSO claims:
"Free Storage Pickups - Clutter Moving And Storage"
"For $0, we'll pick up, pack, and transport your items into storage"
And I was CHARGED for this.
FTC requirements for selling products/services: https://www.ftc.gov/news-events/news/press-releases/2021/10/ftc-ramp-enforcement-against-illegal-dark-patterns-trick-or-trap-consumers-subscriptions
If you value your property STAY AWAY from this company.
So far reported to FTC, DCA & CA State AG. My bank has confirmed that if I pay their ransom for my property, they will dispute the transaction and refund me based on the documents I have provided. Clutter still won't budge, "Trust & Safety" rep was an absolute jerk. Absolutely awful experience!
Moving/Storage
I am not the sort of person to leave reviews but feel compelled to share my horrible experience with Clutter's "smart storage" to deter other young renters from falling prey to their promises of savings/convenience. This company made my move to lower Connecticut an expensive, stressful, hellish hassle. Clutter fails in three major ways:
1. (NOT-SO-)SMART STORAGE. If, like me, you have used Manhattan Mini Storage before where you must rent a physical storage locker with fixed dimensions, there is an allure to this optimized warehouse storage system. That way you can pay for exactly the space you use, right? No. They arbitrarily set "storage sizes" rather than allowing you to pay for what you need. Using their online storage estimators I was declared eligible for a basic plan. About 2/3 of the way through packing up my belongings, the movers told I was being added to a more expensive monthly plan for double the space. Here's the kicker: when I was suggested the smaller plan online, I had actually OVERestimated the number of boxes I would be bringing, which leads me to think their software estimations are deliberately deceptive. As a further note, the movers worked very slowly; you are paying by the hour for them to take photographs of all your items and upload their dimensions into an online inventory system.
2. ACCESS/DELIVERY. Clutter insists you hire them to move your belongings in and out of their warehouse. They do not tell you where this warehouse is. This means you are entirely beholden to their limited calendar of available delivery times. You cannot access your own possessions when you want to. And they deliver to a limited range of zip codes that is only visible online as a long paragraph of digits —not a helpful map. Trying to schedule my delivery, I found out my new apartment, which is easily accessible on the MTA Metro-North, was not "in their service range." I had to pay for them to deliver to a third-party moving company, who I then had to pay for a full regular move. This was another massive unplanned expense on top of the additional storage fees from their first quote to me. I should also note they missed their 3-hour delivery window, which was first thing in the morning so I had planned my whole day prior around it.
3. CUSTOMER SERVICE. As you can imagine, I was in a terrible bind trying to figure out how logistically manage this move without spending a fortune. They do not have anyone you can call. Their only phone number leads to a voicemail box. They prefer you ask questions through a text chat on their site where you receive generic form replies punctuated by the occasional "yes," "no," or "let me see". Never before have I seen a company try so hard to avoid speaking with its customers, which felt unbelievably disrespectful given the position their misleading information had put me in.
I am giving them two stars rather than one because, despite the tremendous expense and inconvenience, they did manage to keep my belongings in good condition, and I don't want to sound unfair or prejudicial in my assessment of this service. Still, I would strongly encourage anyone to use other services, especially if there is any possibility you will need a delivery out of the city. I have had much better experiences with Dorm2Dorm as a student and then Manhattan Mini Storage.
THE ONLY THING THIS COMPANY IS DISRUPTING IS YOUR PROPERTY AND YOUR WALLET. STAY CLEAR.
First, they are expensive per square foot of storage and they will change your monthly fee without notice. Second and worse, they are VERY CARLESS with your property. Between picking my items, storing them for 13 months and delivering them back to me, THEY BROKE 5 OF ITEMS AND LOST 2. I have paid Clutter more than $6000 in fees I didn't complain, just paid my bill. Now I am left with my most important pieces broken and unusable.
The cost to replace the antique mirror (one of a kind), fix the legs snapped legs on a wood credenza (they don't even have the broken legs so I can attempt to have them fixed), fix the bent leg and shelf on a stainless steel credenza, and all the legs on a teak side table is about $9000. I filled out all the claims on these items only to have a nice customer service rep tell me the MAXIMUM COVERAGE IS $2500. Then they rejected the biggest repair because they felt the item as already damaged even though the before pictures show it standing in the original condition. Full transparency someone put contact cement on one of the legs when it was at my ex's place, not sure why.
Then along comes Grace, the supervisor but only after I called and texted the companies CEO. Grace explained that its not their policy to compensate for any damage to items they deem to have existing damage. She offered me an additional $1100 dollars (a total of $2500) to remedy all the damage. Grace won't have a real conversation with you, she is trained to recite the companies policies regardless of what is in front of her eyes. Nice one Grace.
Imagine you take your car to the carwash, they do a circle check, note a scratch on the bumper and wash the car. Then the guy bringing it around loses control and smashes into a wall. He props himself up then says sorry but we cant pay for the damage because there was a scratch on your bumper before.
The insurance coverage seems reasonable enough when you get it for an additonal $25 per month- What reputable company would break or lose more than that? We've all put things in storage before, when was the last time you had this much damage to anything?
On the day of the return two young guys showed up, they were lost, THEY COULD BARELY LIFT MY COUCH, which arrived with a broken leg (and not included above because I had my handy man fix it. Their demeanor was "oh yeah, this is really poorly packed no wonder it was broken, we'd get fired for packing like this. Oh sorry yeah that was broken, not sure what happened." (Clutter does all the packing for those of you that don't know). For a nice cherry on top, my WOOD FLOORS WERE NOTICABLY SCRATCHED in 3 different places. And the Claims department has rejected 2 of 3 claims, citing that it should all be covered by the first approved claim ($100). The whole service is picking up your stuff, storing your stuff and returning your stuff the same why they got it. It's not difficult, but apparently it is. THEY HAD NO IDEA WHERE ANY OF THE HARDWARE was for any of the items that they took apart.
At the same time Clutter showed up, I had another moving company deliver some other items from my previous home. They were pro, they had tools, and didn't leave a single scratch on anything. They were so pro. STAY AWAY FROM CLUTTER, the THE ONLY THING THIS DISRUPTOR IS DISRUPTING IS YOUR PROPERTY AND YOUR WALLET - there isn't a single pro in this business, it's nearly impossible to get anyone from Claims on the phone. (You have to call Ari the CEO) I have numerous emails about the same thing only to get a boiler plate emails telling me there are no guarantees that anything will be made right.
There are three important lessons learned from this experience, one - do your homework, read the reviews. Two - read the fine print on the contract there's always fine print. And three PICK ANY COMPANY BUT THIS ONE for moving and storage.
This is the worst company/business ever. Let me start by stating that after arrangements were made, the company canceled 5 TIMES. That alone should have clued me in that something was not right about this jacked up company. Secondly, after the cancellations, they made attempts to charge my credit card and claim that I had called in the cancellations. Charges were reversed with evidence from the emails sent. This business did not stop there however. When they finally sent someone on the fifth day, the 2 guys were two hours late for the 7:00am appointment, neither of them wore mask, due to COVID, and they were extremely unprofessional. The guy working upstairs, packed only 1 box of books from the upstairs office. The guy working downstairs was so high and inept that he broke an expensive entertainment center. After 25 minute, after arriving late, after breaking my entertainment center, both of these Clutter employees decided they were too lazy to complete the job/task and snuck out without informing me of their departure. When you call the company to complain, voicemail was all I got. After several attempts, I finally got a representative on the line who claimed that the guys stated that conditions were unsafe to continue.
What a scam! This business employs unprofessional liars and idiots. The experience with CLUTTER MOVING & STORAGE was horrible! DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. THERE IS A SAYING, "WHEN YOU KNOW BETTER, YOU DO BETTER——CLUTTER DOES NOT HAVE THE KNOWLEDGE TO DO BETTER BECAUSE THEY DO NOT KNOW BETTER. THIS COMPANY IS REPREHENSIBLE.
CLUTTER MOVING AND STORAGE NEEDS TO KNOW THAT PEOPLE WILL SPEAK OUT AGAINST CORRUPT AND INCOMPETENT BUSINESSES.
I GRANT THIS COMPANY/EMPLOYEES/AND their BUSSINESS PRACTICE AS A NEGATIVE -10 STARS.

EXTREMELY UNPROFESSIONAL AND INEPT!

DO NOT USE CLUTTER! TERRIBLE SERVICE; REFUSED TO REFUND US FOR ITEMS THEY DAMAGED; AWFUL CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVES. DO NOT TRUST THIS COMPANY.
Summary: Clutter was terrible to work with, from beginning to end. I paid for their white-glove packing service, they were 24 hours late for my scheduled move, and when my items were returned to me from storage, I came to find that they had packed my fine china, glassware, and silver at the bottom of large wardrobe boxes--with no wrapping-- & heaped heavy ceramic dishes and stainless steel pots and pans on top of them. Several of my items were destroyed. In spite of filing claims through their site and reaching-out to customer service repeatedly, they have refused to reimburse me on the basis of a predatory company policy (detailed below).
Full story: I initially hired Clutter in May 2021 to pack & store the contents of my apartment (white glove service). This service includes all packing materials, along with several movers to pack the items by hand. I made the reservation weeks in advance to secure the earliest morning slot, which was critical to accommodate the move-out procedure in my building. The day of the move, the movers arrived more than 7 hours late. They had no boxes or moving supplies with them, the crew was short by one person, and they had no room on their truck for our belongings. They had no idea what to do when they showed up at the apartment. After I spent hours trying to get ahold of a human being in customer service (it's almost impossible to get someone from Clutter on the phone), Clutter informed me that they would not be able to accommodate our move at all that day. Our reservation was for 7AM that morning--by the time I finally spoke to someone, it was after 5PM. Our building management office was closed & we were put in a precarious position of having our movers show up the following day without an elevator reservation.
While they did give us a nominal refund for the inconvenience (a few hundred dollars' off our monthly storage fee), we could never have imagined the havoc they would continue to wreak...
We scheduled a delivery of all of our items/boxes in February 2022. We had to arrange for movers to pick-up our goods at the Clutter warehouses in New Jersey and move them to Austin, TX. Clutter does not offer long-haul moving, nor do they allow you to retrieve your boxes at their warehouse sites without an insured mover. Therefore, the only way to receive your items outside of their delivery radius is to hire a third-party mover.
When our movers arrived in TX I began unpacking and immediately realized Clutter's "packing professionals" had placed fragile items--including fine china, glass stemware, silver--at the bottom of large wardrobe boxes, with essentially no protective wrapping. They then packed heavy pots and pans and ceramic dishes ON TOP of these fragile items. Naturally, several items were destroyed. I immediately called Clutter customer service when I saw the first of the damage and explained how poorly the items had been packed--emphasizing that the damage had nothing to do with how the movers handled the boxes, and everything to do with how the boxes were packed. The customer service representative told me to unpack everything as quickly as possible to limit further damage, and to carefully photograph/document the damage so that I could file claims on the Clutter site for reimbursement. I proceeded to unpack, and was in awe of how carelessly the Clutter team had packed many items. In addition to the kitchen items, $2000 dollar lamps were placed in a box with no wrapping and, unsurprisingly, the electrical components were broken off of the base of the lamps. I carefully documented the damage, uploaded each individual claim, & provided links to where the items are available for purchase online to establish a fair market value for reimbursement. After filing my claims, I received an automatic response from Clutter informing me that my claims were denied, on the following basis:"In order to be eligible for reimbursement under (ii) or (iii), you must timely notify Clutter of any applicable damage while Clutter personnel remain present during or after the performance of services. Clutter shall have the right to decrease or deny reimbursement to the extent that your or a third party's negligence or willful act contributed to the claimed damage."I immediately disputed, explaining to customer service representatives that the damage was entirely due to how the boxes were packed. There was no way for my movers to know about the damage when they picked-up the boxes, because the boxes were sealed. Hence, there was no way to inform Clutter of the damage with a Clutter representative present--making the policy predatory in nature.
Customer service representatives acknowledged these facts yet have repeatedly refused to reimburse me for the items.
Moving is stressful enough--avoid Clutter at all costs!
4 years ago my elderly mother and I decided to leave California and move to North Carolina. During this process, we did not have a place to live. Leaving our belongings with Clutter.com understanding the terms of the contract we decided to move forward. During the last 4 years, we paid our monthly bill for 1750 sq ft worth of space, not cheap. As time went by our storage rate went up and up until we had to bring it to their attention. Numerous times they were completely lost and would redirect our call to a different person. These People never respond with their full name on the phone or email sent, With that being said, that was the beginning of all the problems. We were told that our storage would be safe and the whole space needed to be moved at one time. Their moving crew would move it from their storage area, pack their truck and drop it in a local location of our choice. Knowing we had to pay their movers as well as our movers they could not give me any information about the cost or a local place where the trucks could meet and unload and load. $500 or $5000, I guess they wanted a blank check. During these phone calls with Micheal, Kahlin, Amanda we express our concern about trying to get our storage back and traveling during the covid epidemic to California. During these conversations and 3 years in, they divulged information saying our stuff could be moved as many boxes as we want at a time and you can have them shipped, after 3 1/2 years of Clutter saying the whole lot needed to be moved at one time.
$10,000 in storage fees later they tell us this. As we start compiling a list of important things to us and try figuring out costs on our end, we reach out for an estimate on their end to no avail. They would not even give us an address of where our storage was at. Still on a first name basis with no last name, and when we asked we got transferred to another person. Leaving our belonging in their hands was the worst experience of our lives and cause us to lose everything with the misleading misinformation that every
Person said. Not even the senior account rep Micheal would help. California law requires that they tell you when it goes to auction and we started receiving calls and emails about this happening during these events it laid a huge burden of anxiety and depression on my mother and me. Knowing it was a few days before the auction, Micheal reached out to us to let us know. The discussion was about the auctions
And we wanted to have more information on the process and what happens to the remainder of the
Profit monies from the auction because they're only trying to recover the cost of the space.
Micheal told us that we could ask for the details and if there was a profit you can get some of that money back, all you just have to ask for it and most people don't. The auction was on February 23,2022. And we sent an email for the inquiry about the sale and received an email back saying our account was closed and they don't need to provide any accounting to us. here's the email:
This is Khalin at Clutter! Thank you for your message and please allow me to respond on behalf of my colleague, Michael.
I understand you'd like more information regarding your account auction. Please know that our auctions are private and we are unable to provide any buyer or accounting information regarding the auction.
However, you account has been closed and there will be no further charges.
I hope this helps and please enjoy your weekend!
Best,
Khalin
This only the beginning for me and I think its important that people stay clear of Clutter.com
They have the BBB in there pocket as well is Consumer Affairs just check there website and understand they pay to have bad reviews removed. We called the BBB and consumer affairs to file a complaint and they would not except complaints about Clutter.com or even listen!
Angry and mislead..
Don't give up, in your fight! Thanks sitejabber.com for posting my review about clutter.com
Wow, Clutter must be removing bad reviews on Trustpilot somehow because a year ago, they had one star now they're at a whopping four stars... unbelievable! Clutter is a startup that's trying to shake up the traditional storage industry. They are a horrible, unreliable, and unprofessional garbage of a "company" and they should not be in operation.
I was looking around for storage units in NYC to store some furniture from an apartment for a few months while it got renovated. Because of the low price and cute website, I decided to go with Clutter. Little did I know, they do not store your items into your own storage unit. Your belongings are wrapped up in saran wrap, bar coded, then placed into a huge warehouse along with hundreds or thousands of other customers' belongings!
The geniuses who helped packed my belongings at the apartment didn't bar code some items. When I flew from LA to NY to make the apartment habitable again after the renovation was completed, I only had one full day to do it. The night I landed in NY, I received a voicemail from Clutter saying they can't make the delivery of my items tomorrow and have to reschedule. I tried calling them and couldn't reach anyone until the next morning. They weren't able to find all of my items, that's why they wanted to reschedule. I literally flew to NY with just one day to do this then had my flight the day after, rescheduling wasn't an option. Luckily, Clutter "found" all my items and was able to deliver it. However, they were missing about half of my items like a bed frame, Apple TV, dining table, chairs, lamps, rugs, and a whole bunch of other furnishings! I ended spending A LOT time and money buying everything back for the apartment. On top of that, I was back in LA so I kept having to pester the apartment superintendent to help me with deliveries. The worst was with a bed frame because the boxes were huge. He was so kind to help me bring them up the apartment and let a handyman from Task Rabbit assemble it. I also kept pestering guests at the apartment to help with deliveries and setting things up.
I ended up filing a claim with Clutter to get compensation for losing all my belongings. THAT WAS ANOTHER HEADACHE.
Sometime after that whole fiasco in NY, Clutter reached out to tell me they found some of my items. I confirmed they were all mine but had no use for most of them since I had already replaced everything. There were a few items I wanted but they wanted to charge me for the delivery after they lost it in the first place. I just can't believe their audacity. I had to go back and forth over email and countless phone calls with regular customer services reps and managers to finally to get them to deliver it to the apartment for no charge. Why in the hell would I pay for delivery when they lost to begin with? They had their chance to deliver it the first time.
They also blocked me on social media because I would caution people against using their service. I hope my voice gets heard and will help save one least person from this incompetent company.
**Short version: RUN AWAY FROM CLUTTER AND STORE YOUR ITEMS IN A TRADITIONAL STORAGE UNIT BECAUSE CLUTTER WILL LOOSE ALL YOUR BELONGINGS AND PROVIDE TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. YOU WILL WASTE A LOT OF TIME AND ENERGY DEALING WITH THEM. RUN!
