If I could give ZERO STARS, I would. If you're looking for a probate attorney with the cheapest rates, retain this firm. But please know, you get what you pay for. Expect them to rarely follow up on your case, don't expect them to return any of your emails or messages left with their clueless untrained secretary/paralegal (who btw, recently quit because of the mess she had to deal with). Do expect them to bill your account for hundreds of dollars, monthly, while making no progress on your case. It's clear that this firm is overwhelmed, understaffed, and inexperienced in dealing with people. Maybe because they all received their law degrees less than 10 years ago.I personally dealt with Scott Kane, who spends most of his time traveling internationally, not following up with his clients (selectively, according to google reviews) and not returning any emails/messages for weeks at a time (but always makes sure to send an invoice demanding immediate payment) My greatest issue with this attorney is, he's purposely roped me into a legal situation that has dragged on for a year and has cost me thousands. Truth is, after I FINALLY gained control of my mother's estate in March 2022, that should've been the end of it. Now I know that "justice" should've been left up to the States attorney's office to deal with my thieving fraudulent murd**ring family members & their now disbarred crooked attorney. But this heartless greedy man, Scott Kane, saw my case as a source of income and suggested we get "justice" through the probate courts. Big mistake. Had I known, what I know now, I would've declined to further pursue justice via probate court. And contacted the States Attorneys office with evidence, my statement, and allowed them to do a thorough investigation that would have resulted in arrests by now. The extra money I wasted with Cameron & Kane (about $18k) could've been used to pay for the grief counseling, that I truly need. When I first hired Scott 12/2/2021, I paid a $5,000 retainer and didn't hear from him for 10 days. So I sent an email asking for any updates and information about an upcoming court date in mid January. I received no response for three days, so I sent another email. Still, no response... Two more days, no response, so I called the number on their new website cameranandkane, com (I initially phoned thru Logan Law LLC website) but the number was DEAD (I now know they were a new law firm/partnership that hadn't properly setup their phonelines and didn't have a paralegal on staff, yet) At this time panic was setting in. I paid $5,000 to someone I've never met in person, this case is very critical & time sensitive, and I need to make sure I have legal representation, or I could lose everything. All this on top of dealing with the very tragic death of my mother. I started thinking: "Maybe I've been scammed. Maybe they made up a website with the stolen identity of a real attorney". The court date is about 10 days from now, I have to quickly find another probate attorney, then call my bank to dispute the $5,000 charge!"I sent one last email to Scott Kane and told him to call me, then I started looking for backup attorneys on Google. If I didn't hear from Scott soon, I was going to retain another attorney, then dispute the $5,000 charge with my bank. Scott finally called me (which I was charged for) after a month, apologized for his absence, assured me that he was working on my case. He said that he'd been very busy but he just filed a 'motion to appear' and that he'd definitely be at the hearing on 1/19/2022.The first court appearance didn't go as expected, and I was still very uncomfortable with Scott ghosting me after receiving payment in Dec 2021. That same week, I resumed my search for backup/standby attorneys. I spoke to a few other probate law firms, I told them about the issue I had with Cameron & Kane. They told me that non-communication, unresponsiveness, and non-working business phone lines isn't"normal "nor is it professional. They assured me that none of this would be an issue, they also have well trained paralegals on staff that could answer any questions and give updates (especially after court appearances) in the attorneys' absence. I was even told that if Scott continues this behavior, that I should ask for my retainer back and find another attorney, even if it's not their firm. I should've taken their advice. Instead, I stayed with Scott Kane because his hourly fee and retainer was less expensive. Big mistake. In March 2022 I was FINALLY appointed the administrator of my mother's estate & sole heir. This should've fairly easy after the previous administrator was exposed for fraud forgery murd*r etc. But the case got dragged out for almost 3 months. Due to Scott being lax/disorganized, and also due to uncooperative family members. During this time property damage/vandalism & more estate funds were stolen. Scott insisted that we pursue justice through"probate court "to recover funds etc. As if it was going to be quick an easy, and as if this was the ONLY way. The case has been dragging on for a year with no progress nor hope of recovery ANY funds including court costs. I've lost hundreds of dollars & been completely stressed & depressed over this.Cameron & Kane finally hired a paralegal in late March 2022, Jess. While Scott very rarely returned messages, I attempted to get updates/help from Jess when needed. Jess always sounded nervous clueless & overwhelmed by whatever she was dealing with there. Over the last year, there were many periods whenever I sent Scott a message or emailed docs, I'd get an auto-responder message stating that Scott was out of the country traveling. Once, Scott went missing for 6 weeks, Jess called to tell me he had COVID (which I do not believe) to explain his severe absence & lack of response. There was a scheduled court hearing in a few days, and I asked her a few questions about this. Jess had no clue, she said she'd call Scott get clarification then call me back. Never got a call back from either of them. Jess rarely had any info or updates on what was happening with my case. Once, Jess did express that she was dealing with 3+ years of disorganized case files stemming from when Cameron & Kane was with Logan Law (Apparently working for Cameron & Kane was a nightmare because I found out Jess quit in late November 2022). After several months, neither Scott or his paralegal could ever give me a straight answer about when this would end, or why has there been no progress after months of court hearings & thousands in court fees.In addition to being unresponsive, disorganized, and failing to communicate. Over the past year Scott Kane has listed names dates and other information INCORRECTLY on court docs that he's filed. I've had to have him correct these errors on several occasions. Once he emailed me about paying the required surety bond. I had to AGAIN email him copies the notarized doc, photos of the money order receipt & USPS tracking#/label to prove that I did pay this weeks ago. He even tried to bill me twice for a $4,200 bill because he had no record of me paying (sent me a very aggressive email demanding immediate payment) I had to forward him the email receipt from when I paid online & a screenshot of my bank account showing that I already paid the invoice. After this incident, the disorganization the forgetfulness and going M.I.A for weeks… I seriously started thinking Scott may have an issue with"powdered "doughnuts. Allegedly. Why did I continue to put up with all of the above? Well, firstly, I'm grieving the tragic death of my mother, being robbed bullied and scammed by evil family members, and cleaning up property damage caused by spiteful deadbeat family members. I'm alone in this fight, I have absolutely no one on my team. Also, I'm new to ALL of this, dealing with attorneys/court/litigation etc. I figured"This is just how it goes. I already paid. They're already working on my case & I can't back out now ". I felt trapped and stuck, so I kept paying and just let Scott do what I thought was his"job ".In Nov 2022, after I received yet another bill (for $3,100) I contacted Scott again (by email) to find out where this case was going and for explanation of the itemized bill. Because there were MANY unexplained charges listed (many with no description, just abbreviations) no progress on the case nor any court dates that occurred since the last $4k+ payment I made. I saw charges for"reading emails "yet none were answered (since April 2022!) which I don't understand. Another $3,100 bill, while Scott still hasn't worked on several things that he said he'd do (including getting a fraudulent/frivolous claim filed against the estate by a spiteful family member, dismissed).Per usual, no response. I left a message with Scott's former paralegal/secretary Jess (in early Nov 2022) when I called to pay this $3,100 invoice (the payment link they sent wasn't working so my payment had to be taken over the phone). Jess informed me of an upcoming court date on Dec 22nd, and had no other info about the case or bill etc. Per usual, she said she'd have Scott contact me about this. It was now early Dec 2022, and I still haven't heard from Scott since early October 2022 (only received another emailed invoice). The last straw was on December 13th when he finally sends an update via email. More bad news that once again meant this case was going to be drawn out into 2023, indefinitely, and that that last 8 months have been a waste of my time & money. I replied to that email. I proceeded to tell Scott, respectfully, about how I felt about his unprofessional behavior and how I did not want to continue doing this because it's costly and he's not getting anywhere. As usual no response, so the next day I called his office and spoke to the"new "secretary (Jeff) and asked him to tell Scott to start the process to return my retainer fee. Scott finally replies to my email & message I left with his secretary, on Dec 20th to"discuss my case ". Scott's response:"This is going to take time and money and if you can find another attorney that can magically fix this then go ahead!" (I wish he'd said this to me back in March 2022 because I would've declined to pursue any of this via the probate courts). He also accused me of being"disrespectful ", I guess for speaking the truth about what has occurred over the past year. I told him I refuse to spend more time & more money into this, that he is very unprofessional & rude. And, again, to start the process to refund my retainer as I asked on 12/14/2022. Instead of the regular court hearing, a motion to withdraw was entered on 12/22/2022. Somehow, Scott"magically "found more reasons to bill me (I do understand the 15 minute appearance fee for Dec 22nd) so he wouldn't have to return the entire $5,000 retainer fee. Of which I only received back $4,300. That's fine, I'm just glad to be rid of him.Scott Kane has made this entire horrible experience more stressful & depressing than it should've been. I should've fired Scott back in April 2022 but thank Goddess I finally did it now. Hiring another probate attorney to clean up his mess will cost me more, but it'll be well worth it to finally end this nightmare. I DON'T RECOMMEND hiring Cameron & Kane for anything. I suggest you go elsewhere and pay the higher fees for more professional experienced attorneys with well trained paralegals on staff.
