Camera and NO PARTS OR SERVICE!
August 25, 2017

This is just a small sample fo the frustration I have been experiencing with dealing with Camera and Parts over the last EIGHT MONTHS... yes, and I have LOST MY CAMERA as now noone is responding to me. I wrote in this Review site a few months ago...
Here are some of the (currently forty) e mails and responses I've had.

Hi Stephen,

No, nothing has arrived - eight months, no camera, no news. VERY disappointed with Camera and (no) Parts...

Hi Martin,

I checked on this and I'm being informed that it already shipped. Was this going to shipping center of some sort or a business? Please let me know so I can work on getting this figured out, thanks!

Hi Martin. I'll check with Lakewood to see what's going on. Typically will get a response within two business days. If not tomorrow, will know on Monday. I'll send over a message on the order, thanks!

Dear Ryan,

It's now two months later and still no news from you regarding my last response. I have no camera from you either. Where is it and what has happened to it please?
As you may have gathered, I have now to adjust to having no camera; summer holidays and nothing to indicate that Camera and Parts are dealing with my problem - or returning the camera.
Please advise,

Martin

OK Ryan,

I am still bewildered as to why you weren't able to fix the camera - apart form the inordinate time span without hearing anything - and then only, as it seems, bad news. The issue is basically identical to the problem I asked you to fix back in 2013 - which you managed without a problem. So what was missing this time? A lens which won't retract and you can't fix it? Really?

Hi Stephen,

And then... will you be sending the camera back? Is that it? Not fixed - unable to do it?
Don't feel some kind of obligation to repair and send it for free?
Can you please reply?
Thanks

Hi Martin. If you've got a camera here that long and parts are not in, at this point there's no other option then to cancel the order. I will send a message over, thanks!

Hullo again (x 28 or so?) Ryan,

I always appreciate it when you tell em what's going on: I'd appreciate it much more knowing I might get my camera back - and when. Seriously, what is going on? Do I have to write this off and buy a new one? It's coming up to five months...
Please...

5 Star Service fixing my Canon G12
November 19, 2014

5 Star Service fixing my Canon G12. I recommend them. Thank you

Sara

Tip for consumers:

If you have a Canon G12 that is not showing any image from the lens for no reason that you can tell, you probably have the same problem I had. There is a problem on the G12's that this place is very familiar with. They correct something inside the camera so it won't keep doing it. I was very happy with their service and the cost. They are extremely knowledgable on these cameras. They are quick too on their time to turnaround the repairs. Go with them if you have this G12 problem. You'll be happy

If there were a way to give no starts, I would
July 18, 2014

If there were a way to give no starts, I would. Here's why:

My Cameras and Parts saga began on May 11,2014 when I found them on line through a search for Canon repair companies. The reviews seemed glowing on that site (it was theirs, after all!) and the prices were ridiculously attractive.

I emailed them about sending my camera and got an immediate answer. The email instructed me on how to send my camera and had this statement:

"Finally, send it with Tracking / Delivery Confirmation to the following address:
Cameras and Parts
1605 George Dieter, Suite 574
El Paso, Texas *******

That's it... Leave everything else to us!

If we have any questions at all, we'll contact you at the email address or phone number provided.

We'll perform our Complete Service / Repair Package on the camera and return it as promptly as we can for you."

Except that is not what they did.

Before sending my camera, I had another email exchange because I'd inadvertently put the wrong G series letter for my Canon. A person named Christina wrote me back immediately, a most pleasant email.

So I sent my camera on May 17. Excited that I was going to get my much-loved Canon G9 (which would not power up) repaired and back in my hands to use again! I got billed for the repair on May 27.

It is July 18,2014 and I have not received my camera.

I have called numerous times and, though they were quick to answer calls and emails before they received my camera, since then it's been difficult to nearly impossible to get any response.

I did manage to speak with someone named David on June 26. He told me that there had been a new development and that they had to order the part from Japan. (Really, he said that!) He said that the part was due to come in from Japan on Saturday, June 28 and that my camera should ship on Monday, June 30, via USPS. He thought I should get it by Thursday or Saturday (holiday on Friday, July 4).

The camera did not come and after numerous phone calls to Cameras and Parts over the course of a few weeks, I finally got a call back from a guy named Steve on July 8. The call came the very day I threatened to reverse the charges on my credit card for the $156.00 they had already charged me on May 27,2014.

He said the camera was set to go, but there was a payment dispute and it was set to go to collections. It turned out that as a result of my call, my order was flagged. He said he took the flag off, and that the camera would be shipped on Thursday, July 10.

When I told him we were leaving for vacation on Saturday, July 12, and that I'd really wanted my camera back by then, he suggested that I have it shipped to my vacation address. I nixed that idea... thankfully!

He told me that they had been remiss of returning phone calls because they were in the midst of some big inventory process and they were short-staffed. He said I was not the first complaint and that they needed to hire a service to answer calls.

We got back from vacation on Thursday, July 17, and there had been no camera delivery, though David assured me it should be here by Tuesday, July 15.

So, today, Friday, July 18, I decided to google negative reviews of Cameras and Parts and my heart sank. Before sending my camera to them for repair, I'd only read the reviews on their website. That, I now know was a bad idea. The negative reviews as a result of my google search today are overwhelming.

I also looked up the Better Business Bureau of El Paso and they have rated Cameras and Parts with an F.

I'm honestly befuddled. I don't know how or why a company would scam so many people, when apparently the do provide satisfactory services to, I guess, a select few. I just wasn't chosen to be one of those.

Shame on me for not doing my homework upfront. But, shame on Cameras and Parts for being a consumer rip-off.

They are aptly named... Cameras and Parts. (You send us your) Camera and (we will make you) Part (with it).

=(

July 17, 2013

Earlier this spring my friend dropped her camera and cracked the screen. I knew it could be fixed so I went to this place to get the part for her which I was going to install myself for her. The part came but there weren't instructions with the part. No big deal since it was just a screen right? Not exactly. The old screen has to come off a part on the back of the screen that generates the light to go through the screen. I called another place before ordering the part here and they said theirs came with that piece and was ready to install already so I assumed it did here too. I tried to get the old screen from that part but I broke the back piece when trying to do it even carefully. So basically I'm pretty sure the screen they sold me couldn't be installed without that back piece being preinstalled.

I called them and explained everything and they told me that it could be installed and that was how the screen comes and so on. Since I broke that back piece I had to order it too. It came too and before I tackled it I could see it wasn't going to stay on if I installed it because I couldn't see how it would hold in place. The old one looked like crimped on or something.

I called them back to return both parts and they said I'd have to pay a restocking fee to return them both and they would have to see if they were damaged before they could take them back for a refund. Why would they even ask that if I didn't even get so far to install it.

What I ended up doing at their suggestion was to send everything in and they would install it for me for a reduced installation cost of $13.75. I thought fine, that sounds fair.

They did come through and I got it back working and the screen is nice and bright and everything else. My thought is why do they offer parts that are not easy to install and then they don't give you any instructions with them? The screen should have been simple if it had that back piece with it like the other place.

They did come through though and even though I paid a little labor, I'm fine with everything as it worked out. I would tell people though that if this is their first time fixing a camera, don't expect any help from them when installing it and don't expect it to be easy. Mine was just a screen and I spent several hours working on it and still think it didn't have clips of some sort to hold those two parts together though I'm not sure.

I gave them four stars because they did come through and get it going but this whole thing took a while and it made me look like a fool with my friend. When you order a part I don't see why it can't have a note on how to install it. I have ordered a lot of parts for things before and they have instructions with them. Had I know from the get go that it didn't have instructions and also that it didn't come with that back piece for the light then I wouldn't have tried to do it on my own.

They were nice though and they seemed like they did want to help me. The camera works now so we're cool.

I sent them my Canon S3IS because it had a lens error
September 14, 2012

I sent them my Canon S3IS because it had a lens error. Canons fault entirely, I never dropped or mistreated my camera ever.

Camerasandparts tells you to remove the batteries before sending the broken camera to them. So I forgot, I was in a hurry to get it fixed and I remembered I had left them in the camera.

When my camera came back to me the batteries weren't in there. I wouldn't have made a big deal about it except that these were rechargeables and they're pretty expensive.

I emailed them and they said they would look in the bin that my camera was in and see if they could find them. A lady called me back and she said that they were in the bin and she apologized which was nice of her.

She said they would send them right out. They didn't ship them for three days and then they took another two days to get here. I had to buy alkalines to even use my camera for those five days and that was about five bucks I didn't have to spend or I shouldn't have had to pay I should say.

Now on the camera, they did fix it very well. They cleaned the camera so well and it appears to be taking pictures just like new again. Did I mention they clean it well, that I'd an understatement. They cleaned every nook and cranny and they did the repair job excellent.

I understand that the battery mishap was my fault for sending them in. The lady said it was an oversight when they didn't get shipped back with my camera. But why did they take three mire days to ship them out, that meant that I had to wait five days for my rechargeable batteries when it could have just been two days. They did apologize though and they were extremely nice when I spoke with them.

I would definitely recommend this place and I would use them again if I have a problem. They do excellent work and they are one of the best on the pricing. I docked them one star because of the handling if my batteries but aside from that I would have to say that they did perfect. Thank you for your service. I will recommend you to others.
