SCAM advertisements
December 23, 2022

Enquired about a Nissan Dual Cab Ute, $9,000.00. Also advertised in a second advertisement for $8,500.00. Licence plate starts with LCC. Seller is fictious Mary Winslet, Royal Australian Airforce. Claims she had been given the car as part of recent divorce settlement and needed to sell quickly as she was to be deployed overseas and wants to give the money to her mother who will be caring for her children. She was also in lockdown on a military base undergoing training. Because of this, she could not undertake the sale personally so engaged Autotraders to act as her agent. The car would be shipped to me by Autotraders for a 5 day trial with free return if I wasn't happy, all at no cost, which Autotraders does not do. The catch, I had to deposit the money into a Westpac account at Beenleigh, Qld before shipping could happen. Asks for copy of drivers licence which contains all personal information and also phone number, all keys to Identity theft. If you google her name and add Royal Australian Airforce lots of information appears about this scam using a variety of cars going back some time. Why one star to Autotraders...if you read autotraders reviews, they have been advised about this SCAM on numerous occassions and have done nothing, I have reported the two ads and they remain on the site. Maybe fictitious Mary needs marriage counselling as she is constantly getting divorced and her children never seem to grow up. Also with the continual multiple deployments she would not be able to fit all her medals on her uniform... Also note - you will receive an email from AU-autotraders or similar, this is a SCAM email account and their correspondence looks and reads very professional and is quite believable.

A total waste of time and money
January 16, 2022

I placed an ad on Autotrader a week ago. Since doing so I have been contacted by multiple scammers and people who say that they are interested in buying my truck. Unfortunately, after the first contact almost all of them they never respond to any messages that I send them.

Today, I received a check for the asking price of my truck. Upon getting the check I contacted Wells Fargo to see if the check was valid. Turns out it wasn't.

I have also received several messages from people who say that they will buy my truck sight-unseen. They promise to send me a check through USPS. The checks never arrive.

In my opinion, Autotrader is a complete waste of time. Moreover, it's a waste of the $49 I paid to post the ad to sell me truck. Paying Autotrader is like paying to be punished! I greatly regret having tried to sell my truck on their website!________________________________________

Dishonest and Aggresive GT Performance Orpington Kent
December 21, 2018

Don't be fooled by Colin and his sons' initial pleasantries. They are very dishonest and once you have paid, they are rude and aggressive, in the end I couldn't even speak to them as their manner was so aggressive, I was both upset and scared. Colin also threatened my local garage with violence after they called for payment of repair, he had agreed with them he would pay he refused to pay of course once the work was done.

I bought a £******* car from Colin at GT Performance earlier this year (Which to me is an awful lot of money). Initially Colin couldn't have been friendlier more helpful, that was up until the point id paid him.

Where to start:
As part of the sales agreement Colin agreed to have a full service done. The MOT had also expired so this needed to be done He lied as on taking the car immediately to my regular local garage none of the filters had been changed, no oil change etc etc. I asked Colin for the service paperwork which he kept promising but never delivered as it clearly hadn't been done. I actually drove away with the car on collection (Kent to London) to realise on the motorway the wing mirrors were loose and kept dropping down and the front window water spray was broken so I couldn't clear the window screen which made my drive home in my new car both unpleasant and dangerous (What should have been an exciting and pleasurable experience). I'm not sure how the car was in this condition after apparently a full MOT and Service had been done prior to me collecting the car as it was unsafe.

Only after payment and being given the keys where we to discover:
No logbook (I did get photocopies of the service history which he had got from Landover)
No Manual
No Spare Key
No Petrol Cap Key

Shortly later we discovered:
Dent in the front side of the car which had been sprayed over
Heated seats don't work, and general heating doesn't work properly
Leaking windows to the point the seatbelts are soaking when it rains and also you get wet when putting it through the car wash

After a lot of back and forth I took the car back to Kent (an 80-mile round trip). Colin had said he would send somebody to collect it to sort out the issues, but he kept cancelling and then told me I had to take it back myself. He said it would be a few days and he would have somebody deliver it back to me in London, a week later I had to chase and he was only just looking at it and my boyfriend had to go back to Kent to collect it as he said he had no driver to bring it back to me (I wouldn't go as I found his behaviour had become increasingly rude and intimidating). He fixed nothing just giving excuse after excuse, he said he had fixed the window seal, but it still just leaked as my boyfriend checked it whilst there with Colin. He agreed with my local garage he would cover the cost for them to fix the leak, so we didn't have to drive back to Kent again. My garage later called him for payment and Colin refused to pay and threatened him with violence. Subsequently I had to pay my local garage.

What should have been such a treat buying a car turned into an absolute nightmare. I have been unable to rectify most of the issues and am now sure to lose a lot of money on the vehicle. I really don't know how this business is getting away with this dishonest and aggressive behaviour, especially threatening people that they will be beaten up by his Albanian friends.

Be very careful dealing with these people

I found a car on autotrader that sounded, "Too good...
February 3, 2011

I found a car on autotrader that sounded, "Too good to be true"
I contacted the seller telling them that I was interested... here is the conversation:

Date: Mon, 31 Jan 2011 02:36:26 +0000
From: ---------
Subject: Car for sale
To: *******@msn.com

I just noticed your car on autotrader and I am very interested however, it seems to good to be true. I read the description and it seems to be in perfect condition. May I ask why you are selling it so cheap?

Look forward to hearing back from you,

Dana Kirby

The car is still for sale and the asking price is $5,200. The car is located in Helena, MT and is registered on my name and the title is clear. I'm a pilot on cargo flights, my wife broke up with me recently because I'm always away from home. We just sold our house and split the money. This is the last thing I need to sell and split the money with her. Because I'm away most of the time I will not be able to deal in person, but I've already arranged the shipping and the title transfer anywhere in the US. I will pay the shipping fees. If you are still interested please email me back so I can explain how we can do this without me being present.

Thanks

Mark,

I am still interested. You already have the title and shipping fee arranged for? How much did that cost you? It sounds like you are not going to make much off of this car. First of all, im not going to purchase a vehicle that I can not inspect in person. Second of all, if you really want to sell this vehicle, you need to get someone you trust to meet with the person. We live in America and there are too many scams that occur these days. Furthermore, you do not work 24/7 so therefore you do get home time and should be able to meet with someone within the next three weeks. If you can arrange a time to meet with me I may consider doing business with you.

-Dana

Dana,

I want the payment to be handled by Edmunds Autos http://cars-edmunds.com. You will deposit 50% to Edmunds Autos and they will keep the money until you will receive and inspect the car. You will have a 5 days inspection period. If the car is not as described it will be shipped back on my expense and they will give you a full refund; if you do like and want to keep it you will pay the rest of the balance. This way, you will be able to inspect the vehicle before committing to buy it and I know that you have the money and you aren't just fooling around.
Giving the nature of this transaction please note that my sale terms are final and nonnegotiable. In order to move forward and register the transaction with Edmunds I will need your full name, address and phone number, after that they will contact you with the payment instructions.
I don't want to offend you, but the car is priced for a fast sale so please if you intend to apply for a loan or financing do not reply to this message!

Thanks

PS: I prefer to sell it at this price, I have my reasons, main one is this money split's half with my ex, and I really don't want to make her rich, just need enough money to pay for all divorce expenses and that is all!
