My mom tried it too when her usual Vit C Serum ran out, and she said there was the usual tingling and tightening effect but nothing bad. And once the serum had become dark so we had to return it, because that means the Vitamin C has oxidised and become ineffective.
My personal suggestion is to have a gentle routine and be consistent. Find out what works for you and stay with it. Something like this Vit C and E Serum is ideal as part of such a routine because it is gentle, mostly natural, effective and affordable in the long run.
