Not sure how they did it, but I know about the post leading you to sign up on another site. I've only had one response so far (out of a hundred friend requests and responses to their inquiries to me) and that was on Ashley Madison.

Keep remitting at the bottom of the message to unsubscribe! It took me a lot of times but eventually it all stopped! Sorry you have been subjected to this kind of scam!

They have 'spam robots' scanning the internet, the bay data bases with emails and phone numbers, there is so much information out there.
