I spent 2 years caring for my parents and that may put me out of line on 8 years recent PM experience. Can I use that time as a project?

Answer:
No, despite what you may hear from others that anything can be considered a project, PMI would definitely reject an application containing something like that and possibly flag any future applications from you. It must be a project managed in a professional setting. Please read the articles and FAQ on my site for answers to these types of questions.
