DreamHost wasn't so Dreamy! I was with DreamHost for several years always having issues with the uptime of my sites. While I had an entry level Virtual Private Server (VPS) with DreamHost, I had never had an issue like this with my previous VPS providers. Trouble tickets were created with DreamHost Support over the years and I would always follow any advice to optimize the speed of the processor and/or RAM usage, however nothing seemed to change the performance of my sites on their VPS. Also, just because you purchased a VPS with DreamHost does not mean that your SQL databases will run on it. I'm pretty sure they are still using shared hosting for your SQL databases and they upsell you to move them over to a faster VPS.

In addition to the uptime issues, they kept raising their rates on a VPS that was not working properly and auto renewing my contract. If you don't cancel your auto renewing VPS subscription in time, they will charge you for everyday that it is open or running, so be sure to backup your sites and cancel or close your VPS before the plan auto renews.

If you are looking for a VPS I would do your research because hosting companies have a huge markup on their products. I would recommend looking at a VPS like AWS Lightsail. It may take a little more work and education on the platform to get started however in the long run you will understand how a VPS works with a lower overall expense. I hope this helps someone that has had the same experience that I have had with DreamHost.

I have a managed Wordpress portfolio site (Dreamhost handles regular updating) that hasn't been changed in years. A few months ago all my families email shut down. Turned out Dreamhost had an issue updating my Wordpress PHP to the latest. Since they couldn't update it they began charging me a small monthly fee for using the old PHP.

I never used the old PHP. They did.

I had a $15 bill. They also couldn't tell me how to fix the issue or which WP blog was at fault. I paid the bill and my account took days to turn back on after customer service told me they'd turned it back on and would refund the $15 and tell me how to stop it from happening. They never did.

Today? It happened again. They've been billing me that small fee with no notice.

It's kind of wild to watch a business just take a 20-year relationship and trash it over their own error but ok. I'm not sure where else to call this out.

I used Dreamhost for one year. After I couldn't make a payment for a couple of years my balance was negative and all the projects I was working on were deleted and no backups were left available. They just deleted many hours of my hard work. I found it out when I renewed my subscription. After that, I tried to cancel my subscription and delete my account didn't provide any refund.
Anyone who wants to use their service please check other platforms such as WordPress, Winx, GitHub, etc.

I cancelled my account by phone when the raised the rate after the first 3 years (I no longer needed the account and was not interested in the new rate. They would not budge) They have been sending me invoices every year for $200+ I cannot call them. Phone numbers don't work. I cannot cancel online, since they say I owe money. I cannot reply to their email. They are essentially harassing me! I am feeling rage. I don't like that feeling but there is no way to contact a human being.

After 3 days downtime on both my websites, /1 is online shop/ and not even sending some email to enlighten me whats going on. This is a HUUUUGE $#*!UP.
I wouldn't even call it downtime. Its too long for that.
What sort of host will let down 3 days on a row their customers?
Any hosting from "Bangladesh" will better then that.
Choose any other host, even the cheapest in a 3rd world country will be better then Dreamhost.

Don't risk your business with Dreamhost.

I am absolutely stunned and beyond angry that his company has deleted all but 2 months of my primary business email account. Their reasoning that I was over my storage limit, They offered "Fortunately we have developed a first-rate storage solution which is perfect for personal email backups and any other general backup needs you may have: DreamObjects."
In actuality what they did was delete them from my account and upload a zip file to an Amazon Cloud sever. A zip file i cannot access because they have stored them in a format that is unreadable other than by an email server. Their attitude is to stonewall and pretend it doesn't matter. This is arrogant, stupid, destructive to my business and proves that they are utterly unfit for any custodial role for precious business information. I've been a customer for over 5 years and they just don't give a damn.

Dreamhost sounded like a winning choice with it's low hosting package cost, monthly cost was great but overall service and more importantly website access speed were snail pace. I was getting too many emails from clients which i was hosting their sites complaining how slow websites were loading and had to switch to more a faster service after Dreamhost did not respond to my inquiries on the matter and luckily found another webhoster at Hostinger at a cheaper rate and faster access speed. Dreamhost became a distant memory soon after.

Dreamhost's refusal to fix a simple ongoing email issue that affected at least 50% of emails sent --having to constantly record the email was NOT spam when sent to more than one recipient resulted in, after MANY MONTHS of 'no fix' and a lot of lip service --my off the chart frustration. Their solution?

Kick me off the hosting plan. After YEARS of loyal payment and many, many referrals. Great business.
