I opened a 5 years CD with BMO ALTO 2 weeks ago. It was approved. I was given 10 days to fund the account. Early morning on the 10th day as I was about to fund it, I got an email that the account was closed. I reapplied 7 times, and all were denied. Customer service is absolutely no help. They keep saying they don't know why it's denied, and there's nothing they can do about it, and to just reapply. Very annoying situation. Customer service is not very good.

I'm a BMO Alto customer (CD/Savings) but CANNOT open a second CD. Constant "declines" with no explanation and Customer Service is NO HELP. Long Wait times starting very early in the morning (100+ in front of you). They have no way of escalating a concern/issue and just advise you to "try again" -- for days!
Great rate --- if you can get it!

They took my money & i have no access to it. I can not transfer it, i can not close the account. I have filed a federal reserve complaint.

Tip for consumers:
do not open an account with BMO Alto, they do not answer the phones, their site does not work, they take your money and then you have no access to it

I files an application for a CD and was declined. My 1st call, I was number 16 in line. I hung up. My 2nd call I was next up for customer service, after 10 minute wait, then was disconnected. I called again and got thru after 20 minut and asked why and was put on hold for 20 minutes. I asked why it was declined and they could not tell me. She said to reapply. I told her to void my application from the system and she couldn't do that. My credit score is 800, no reason to be declined. I would never put my money in this bank.

I am currently a BMO Harris Bank customer. I have been for over 20 years. As we all know security with your financial accounts is paramount. As people start to use VPN more and more they will find that some sites will not allow it. In the past scammers and hackers were the ones using this so I understand why some sites block VPN. In this day and age this is not acceptable. Everyone should be using VPN to protect themselves from hackers and scammers. Anyhow, I have called these guys and explained the situation. They seemed to know they have this issue. Never do any banking on line without using VPN. If you do then you are at more risk. By the way, BMO Harris Bank does allow VPN.
