This website used to be really great, but it is getting bogged down with too many user postings and too many "definitions" for words/phrases that are unknown outside of someone's neighborhood or close friends.

This website should be so much more popular and well-known, in my opinion. It has a lot of high-quality information that isn't on Wikipedia or other *pedia sites.
But clearly the website is more for students or researchers digging into the details - for a quick overview on something, there are better sites out there.

Nice alternative to Pandora. Pandora seems to have access to bigger artists and possibly a much larger music library, but (as others have noted) Pandora also tends to repeat songs more often.

Last.fm is a great place to discover new music, but there are a lot of great artists (famous and not-so-much) whose music is on Pandora but not available on Last.fm.

Looks like this was probably shutdown. www.favtape.com now redirects to a site promoting ebay auctions.

Wordcount.org (http://wordcount.org/main.php) is a cool and fun way to explore the English language. It's an interactive representation of more than 86,000 English-language words and how often they occur in writing and speech. The underlying data comes from the British National Consortium, a consortium of universities and publishers led by Oxford University Press.
The website has also added Querycount (http://wordcount.org/querycount.php), which represents the number of times certain words are searched in the Wordcount graph.

Superbad.com -- no relation to the late-2000s film -- is a the creation of graphic designer Ben Benjamin and is a unique website-as-art-project that has been around at least since 1997. Much of the content was the same then -- as now, the designer uses only DHTML and his deep well of creativity. If you enjoy spending time in the modern art section of your favorite gallery or museum, or if you are a fan of offbeat, "alternative" media, you might enjoy a visit. Clicking around on different text and images leads the user to new screens, images, and experiences. Despite many, many visits over the years, Superbad.com is still surprising and unpredictable.
This is web design purely as art -- there's no commercial objective, no ads, no text except for what's integrated in the design.

Witty comic strips and graphic design. The Oatmeal (Matthew Inman) is a Gen X cartoonist in the league of Mike Judge, Matt Groening, Seth MacFarlane, and Evan Dorkin. His work is hilarious, sometimes shocking, occasionally educational, and always readable.. Here's a sample of what you'll find there:
Five Very Good Reasons to Punch a Dolphin in the Face
Why I'd Rather Be Kicked in the Testicles Than Call Customer Service
15 Things Worth Knowing About Coffee
6 Crappiest Interview Questions
...You get the idea. All brilliantly illustrated and well-written.

Interesting web site...the questions and answers are actually in-depth and accurate, and they tackle strange questions as well as weird science trivia. Entertaining and educational all the way around. The site design is not the best, but the articles are useful and there appear to be hundreds of them on the site.
You can submit your own questions or even add answers or comments to other questions.
