  • Best Buy

1/30/17

For the patient buyer that chooses what they wants and waits for the right price, Best Buy is a great place to check regularly. Online shoppers can often get free delivery and if there is a problem can return at the store, a big time saver. If you are also an eBay shopper, you can use the Best Buy site to find what you want then buy it on the Best Buy eBay store to also score eBay Bucks.

For those impulse and immediate replacement purchases of quality electronics and computer accessories, Best Buy frequently has the best regular price as well.

If you need a bargain VPN for low bandwidth streaming, this service is good for the price. Torrents are low, low speed because it that is not the key service they offer. Search online before signing up as there are often bargains available through their partners. Stack Social currently has an awesome deal on a lifetime VPN account for under $20!

All of their products are first-rate quality. The regular prices are a bit high, but the sale prices are usually below the competition and they have frequent sales.

Clean, uncluttered site that is easy to navigate. I wish for the extra cash back emails they would use their own URL instead of that of the cheap mailing company they use because I always have to navigate to the site and find the activation link rather than just click a trusted address in the email.

  • Newegg

10/2/16

Newegg often has the best prices. They also have a very fair return policy. Buyer reviews are helpful for shopping. If you are a frequent eBay buyer, I suggest when you find something on the Newegg site to see if they have it listed in their eBay store. You will get the same deal plus the eBay bucks.

When searching, be sure to check the Walmart check box for seller and leave the others unchecked. If there is an issue with the order, Walmart won't handle or let you contact the seller directly. Instead you have to go through their forms for communication. The other sellers also ship slower and tend to ship the wrong thing, which is how I learned all this.

That said, ordering from Walmart online is a decent experience. It is clear from their site why they will always be behind Amazon, but some things are cheaper at Walmart, they offer free shipping over $35 and the shipping charges are reasonable.

  • LivingSocial

I purchased tickets to the fair where there are celebrity concerts. After I bought the tickets, they sent me an email notifying me they had updated the description to exclude the concerts. In this case they were re-branding a Groupon offer but without the Groupon customer service. Lesson learned: if they have a deal you are interested, search the web first for the source of the deal and buy direct instead of getting screwed.

  • Amazon

12/25/16

Free shipping went from $25 to $45. You can usually find the same item on eBay for the same price and free shipping. Also, the reports of working conditions at Amazon have me always looking at alternative sources first now.

  • Bank of America

12/8/16

There is no longer any customer support issue they will address online. If you miss-type your password you have to change it once you complete the recovery process. There are frequent JavaScript issues where the site will only work in one browser, but not always the same browser.

  • Quicken

9/6/16

10 years ago Quicken was great. Then they saturated the market and became both lazy and greedy. The software is now worse with each release, losing both usability and accuracy. When year after year they fail to introduce fixes, let alone improvements, they then force users to upgrade by discontinuing the very functionality that made it worth buying in the first place, specifically updates from financial institutions. And if you have multiple accounts at an institution their current process will corrupt those accounts after multiple updates, requiring that the online feature be disabled for each individual account before being able to correct it.

  • Everbuying.net

Buried in fine print "Ships within 7-15 business days".

  • Togo.outbackonlineordering

The site is terrible to navigate. They don't bother to partner with any of the online food ordering sites that know how to do this. The site only has options for ordering if you are driving up for pickup, even if the location doesn't offer that service. And they get the order wrong.

  • AMC Theaters

7/7/18

What a terrible user experience.

Entered gift certificates that were verified and then they charged my credit card instead. No way to print a ticket, and when requesting the ticket to be sent by text is says it was sent and it wasn't. No online help.

  • Fiverr

6/23/18

Purchased a logo creation service with a guarantee of a two day turn around. It took two weeks and the logo was not even remotely close to the specification provided, including a completely unrelated company name on it. No recourse for having it corrected or refunded. I closed my seller account afterwards as I cannot be associated with such a bad customer experience. The website also performs terribly for sellers, with links not functioning.
