This is a white noise machine that helps you to generate your own coloured noise, though it starts off as white. The toggles to change are really easy to use, and the site overall is simple, effective, and free.

  • ClickUp

4/4/21

Click-up has pretty much everything from calendars, to do lists, docs, folders and more. The main purpose of this is actually just a to-do list, but it comes with lots of other features that integrate within each other. And for the most part it's free! The only downside is that it has too many features - this can be overwhelming at times, especially when all you want is a simple list.

IXL

I had to do IXL everyday before since my parents told me to. It's really not good - I doubt it helps you progress.
I mean they give questions to answer so maybe if you do it for 5 minutes you can recap a few things. But if you want to improve, then it's really not worth it. Try other websites.

  • Google Docs

Google docs is kind of annoying, for multiple reasons:
- If you want to insert a textbox, then you'll have to go to "drawing" then make one, and then paste it. There isn't an easy way to do it
- When inserting images, even with fixed formatting, half of the images disappear, or else they decide to go all over the place.
- It sometimes freezes for no reason

However other than that, if you just want to write a few paragraphs, then it's fine. It works in the way that it is a place for documents, as well as an easy place to share your work. There are also templates that you can use.
Overall, I'd say that you can use it - but be prepared for challenges.

  • Vocabulary

Vocabulary.com is a website that you can use to gain your vocabulary knowledge. There are multiple ways the site gives: Playing the Challenge (random questions), Doing a Featured activity (questions based on a certain activity), or doing a vocabulary jam (my personal favourite, this is playing a live competition between random people from all over the world).
The more questions you get correct, the more points you earn, meaning that you go up on the leaderboard, as well as have a higher status. The programm means that they generate a systematic way to learn words, as the same word stays in your program until you master it (earning you more points!).
The questions themselves are multiple choice, until you master it - then you'll have to type it out. This therefore makes it much easier to learn them. They also often give words that you've already mastered in order for you to keep reviewing them and not forget.
I've used many websites that claim that they're good for expanding your vocabulary, but this one is by far the best.

  • Seneca

Seneca is a website for learning, with a free version as well as several different subscription plans. I haven't tried the paid subscription, but I've used the free version quite a lot.

It is often fast-paced, and relies on quick recalling and repeat. They give you a few lines of information, accompanied by a picture, and then give a question immediately best on the text. They then give more information, another question, some more questions, more text… you get the idea. It might sound boring, but the fast-paced method is actually quite a good way to learn, as you can easily go back to see where you went wrong. Seneca also adds memes and funny pictures/gifs at the end of a section/ topic, which may sound distracting, but personally, I find it to make the site even more interesting and engaging.

The site has almost every subject, broken down into smaller topics. The more you do it, the higher you can go up in the leaderboard as you accumulate points.

I'd say the only disadvantage is that the questions are quite repetitive - they are engaging, and also switch the type of questions around, but there aren't many types. This means that if you repeat the same section, you'll end up doing the same thing, which may get slightly boring after a while. However, this shouldn't be too much of a problem, as the site is best for revision, like I said, and therefore shouldn't be used too frequently.

Overall, this is a great tool to recall information that you need for a test the next day… just remember to understand the content before revising...

  • Quizlet

8/17/20

Quizlet is a website where you can either create flashcards for online use, or browse other people's flashcards. Practically every topic you can think of is on there, all of which you can either practise with flashcards, learn, write, spell, test, match, or gravity mode.
Since they are flashcards, it's best for revision, as a few words + a picture is a much better way of learning than with paragraphs when writing on cards. Personally, I'd say it works quite well, especially as they also provide a "test" option and a "match" option.
Other than not being for learning, the other disadvantage is that it can be annoying when in any given writing mode, you write an answer, and they mark it incorrectly only because your answer is not word-for-word. I mean, I get why, as they can't really go through each answer and give a marking option for an answer that is the same in essence, if not in word. But still, it can be really frustrating. Although, there is an option to click that says "mark as correct" or "mark as incorrect", but some users may misuse the purpose of that.
Quizlet also has an upgrade option, where you pay for a "better version". I don't pay, and don't know anyone who does. I doubt it's worth it, since what more can flashcards do? They say that you have to pay to use bold, italics, and underlining in your writing, but to be honest, it's not worth paying for that.
So in conclusion, Quizlet is a great resource for quickly recapping any given topic - education or non-educational - but not to learn anything. You can try learning, but there are better websites…

  • Quora

7/13/20

The problem with this site is that so many people use it as a bad quality yahoo-answer-search engine and that because of this, most newbies/ people who log on for the first time are put off.
In case you don't know what Quora is, it's a Question/Answer site, where answers can be about anything. There are good writers, there are bad writers, there are catfishes, there are great people, there are teens and there are adults - it's basically the same as all other social media.
You can likewise get followers, and follow people. You can also get hate.
But you can get positivity. You can make friends. You can get advice. And that's what I received.
So, my point is, this site is great, but managed poorly. There are BNBR rules which Quora is actually quite strict for, andthat means that you can report. The problem is that not all fights are resolved properly - but not all fights are worth it.
So I recommend Quora - but you have to be patient to see the true experience.
