This is the fourth year in a row that my family has decided to return to Oceanside Inn. The main reason for using Oceanside again was the convenience of the location and what was supposed to be lower rates for returning customers. When making reservations I was assured we would be given the "returning customer" rate. Somehow, this was still $50 more than our costs for the previous two years, so apparently we were not given the rate. We were also charged an additional $5 a day for a "tourism fee" which I am pretty certain we were not charged last time. So, that is another $20 above what we paid last year to stay here. With that said, this location probably does have the lowest room rates beach-side. Despite all that, we will NOT be returning to this location any time in the near future. This was our 4th stay and my review is fair.
*PLUS: things are always clean. The staff is constantly cleaning & housekeeping is nice & aims to please. You can ask for towels strictly for pool use but there was at least one time on this visit they had absolutely no towels to give us. The man behind the counter at that time was completely useless & did not want to bother calling to ask any one else about when the towels would be ready.
*The pool area is nice as well (heated), but management does NOT enforce the pool rules of no floats/toys in the pool, nor do they enforce the "no glass" rule. Lots of folks like their beer poolside, in glass bottles.
*There are many adults who can't read and don't understand the "NO SMOKING" rules on the floors that have posted signs. This is a HUGE problem management does not tend to. My husband & both of our children have allergies. My husband can't stand the smell of cigarette smoke & when the air quality is not part of the accomodations you are paying for, it really makes your visit miserable if you are spending it sneezing the entire time. Not to mention, I don't want my kids around cigarette smoke at all.
*Speaking of smoking, whether it was the guests or some of the housekeeping/maintenance at Oceanside, ALL of my previous visits & this visit was overwhelming strong with the smell of marijuana. Management does not seem to care about this either despite the "no smoking" signs. Not exactly a "family friendly atmosphere."
*And that brings me to my next review point: Apparently you can do whatever the heck you want at Oceanside. Let your little hellians run around like wild animals with absolutely no supervision. In all fairness, the first few times we visited here, the noise level from other guests was very minimal. Unfortunately for us, this visit was the absolute WORST. When we got ready to check out & complained about it, we got an "oh, that's too bad" & no offer to apply a discount or anything. We certainly did not get what we paid for & our vacation was practically ruined & cut short because of lack of proper management at this location. We were between a family who had reserved at least two rooms & there was no less than 5 kids (along with at least that many adults) who CONSTANTLY ran in & out of the rooms, up & down the hall, slamming doors, yelling, screaming, talking at the tops of their lungs & just having a great ol' hallelujah time at our expense. Guess what? Management did not do jack-sh*t about any of it! What about every one else who was TRYING to ENJOY their vacation as well? If management can't be pro-active & patrol the hallways & check on guests, then why is there management at all?
*So, those reasons are why we will not be returning despite the familiarity of the location and the low rates. No one should "have to" complain about other guests being obnoxious/rude. No one who is on a "no smoking" floor should have to complain about people smoking, or smoking weed. There are only 9 floors in the building & if management cannot actively manage that much, they deserve to go out of business. We have never been so mad about our stay any where else.
