I started on March 25th trying to get a copy of my birth certificate. They charged me $59.95 that day and sent an email to confirm and advise me they are mailing a packet, and the vital records office will require more information from me and a check for another $15.00 once I get their packet. The company claims it is the fastest and easiest way to obtain my certificate. The email also said it should take about 30 days for the proces. I didn't even get their packet until May 15th. So much for the 30 day turnaround. The packet contained a pre addressed envelope, and an application they had partialy filled out and printed. Some of the information was incorrect and some missing. I made the corrections, and put it and the check in the envelope they sent. You'd think for $59.95 they would give you a stamped envelope! As of yesterday, I finally found a way to check with the State of NY online. They have no record of my application. I sent a note to governmentfilings and they replied that I needed to wait the amount of time the first told me before calling the vital records department. They said 30 days but it's been 4 months, so I tried calling. They still don't take phone calls there and you can't leave a message. I emailed governmentfilings again and the sent the exact response as the first time. They also say they don't have control of how the state responds. I responded once more and got the exact reply a 3rd time. It appears they don't really READ anything you send to them once they have your money. So for my $59.95 I got an application they didn't even fill out correctly, 1 envelope, and one other piece of paper with useless information on it. It's been over 4 months and I still don't have the birth certificate that they advertise they get for you "the quickest and easiest way." I contacted the BBB to complain and said they have so many complaints they are all directd to one BBB office in California. I wish I'd looked there first. My bank is now in the middle of doing a chargeback against them. Even more troubling to me is the fact they have all my information now. Their site gives the impression you are dealing with a government agency, but it's just a place that charges you money to send you forms that are free if you know where to locate them. Scammers!
