  • American Eagle Outfitters

9/18/17

Avoid from making any purchase from American Eagle Outfitters AT ALL COST! Why? It's because they scammed me.

Here's my story: last night, I discovered that American Eagle Outfitters was having a clearance on their website via social media and I decided to reward myself with some brand new clothing. I went on their website and started to browse around and found a nice pair of chino and a flannel shirt. I placed them in my cart and then proceeded to checkout. But then I discovered that I could get 25% off my order if I use their mobile app to checkout (it was on a banner). So, I decided to install the app onto my smartphone and then went to the checkout to only discovered that I needed to shop more to get the discount... Okay... I decided to shop more and add more things to my cart, and the message still persisted for me to shop more to get the discount. What in the world...? I decided that it was not worth the time to decipher the false advertisement and just checkout.

However, I then discovered another advertisement where if I applied for their store credit card, I could get a discount on my order! Woohoo; so being a frugal guy that I am, I applied for their credit card via their website online only to discovered that I had to make a phone call... Uh, okay? So, I called the number that was provided on my screen and I ended up waiting for a LONG time until a person finally picked up and made me go through some nuisance security tests before I could finally get my darn credit card.

But then I found out something terrible. I WON'T GET TO USE THE CREDIT CARD UNTIL IT'S DELIVERED TO ME. Seriously? Really? American Eagle Outfitters pretty much scammed me of my credit score in applying for their store credit to not being able to use it until I get it in 1-2 weeks... A bunch of bull****. You know, they could've like... I don't know, STATED THAT IN THE AD BANNER. Instead of being vague, they should've put that out there in BOLD lettering. Other stores don't do this. Macy's doesn't do this. Best Buy doesn't do this. When you apply for a store credit card, you should have it INSTANTLY. So, thanks for dropping down my credit score and doing a hard check on my credit report.

ANYWAYS, once I got my credit card, I finally went back through the checkout again ONLY to find out that one of my item in my card WENT OUT OF STOCK. Are you serious? Can this night get any worse? SO, I had to find another item that was similar because I really wanted one and added it to my card.

After that whole fiasco was done, I finally tried to checkout again and paid via PayPal and everything went through.

PHEW! It's all over right? I can just wait and get my stuff now, right?! No, not at all. There is no happy ending to this story. The next day, I woke up to an email saying that my order got canceled to a security issue... ARE. YOU. SERIOUS? Let me copy and paste the email that I got:
"Dear Minh,
To enhance security, your order was pulled for additional verification. For your protection, this order was not allowed to process further and has been canceled. You will not be charged."
WHAT? What does that even MEAN?! Is that another way of saying, "Oh, hey. The items you ordered last night went out of stock, sucks for you." Please, somebody tell me what "enhance security" means? I checkout on their official website, using my PayPal account (which I've use numerous time on other websites recently with no issue), and everything was official and went through correctly. And you're telling me you had to cancel my order because for ENHANCED SECURITY? Is this a damn joke?

Oh, it doesn't end there, my friend. I then decided to call them as it was an option stated in the email.

I called and went through a bunch of robot messages and menu options to a waiting room. After waiting and waiting and listening to the dreadful elevator music, I got hung up. What? I WAITED FOR LIKE AN ETERNITY AND GOT HUNG UP. I tried to call back, and then got a robot telling me that the call hours are over. Oh, yeah. In case you don't know, their call center is only open from 8-5pm EST, Monday - Friday. That's basically 4-1pm PST for ME.

Honestly, I was just done at that time. I've tried my damn best as a consumer to buy some stupid clothes from the website and I just had the worst retail experience that I've ever encountered in my whole entire life.

Oh, I also forgot to mention that they haven't even refunded my money. Yeah, I'm looking at my bank account right now and it's just gone.

In final words, American Eagle Outfitters scammed me with false advertisements about their mobile app discount and applying for a credit score; in which wasting my space on my smartphone and using suspicious permissions and dropping my credit score, and blatantly stealing my money and not returning it.

AVOID DOING BUSINESS WITH AMERICAN EAGLE OUTFITTERS AT ALL COST!

Tip for consumers:
Just stay away, please. Shop at any other retail store.

  • The RealReal

This review isn't for The RealReal's physical location nor for their office. This review is going to be based on their online consignment service (https://www.therealreal.com/consign).

A few months ago, March to be specific, I ordered their free "Luxury Consignment Kit" so I could package my valuable clothing and ship it back to them at no cost. It took a few weeks to receive their free Luxury Consignment Kit (shipping time is about the same as thredUP's free "Clean Out Kit") and it came as a large brown box. Inside the box were instructions on what was accepted and other minor documents.

Once I read all of the instructions and documents that came with the kit, I started to fill the entire box up with valuable clothing. It took some hours to sort out which clothing were good and bad, so I could meet their requirements. After I packed all the clothing that I could into the box, I taped it up and used their pre-paid USPS shipping label to return the box back to them.

I received a confirmation email from The RealReal after USPS successfully picked up my 40-50 pound package from my home. That was on March 29. Near the end of April, I started to wonder if they were going to finish processing my package, because I also shipped a package for thredUP on the same day I shipped the package for The RealReal. I gave it no thought until mid of May where I started to panic. It's been passed a month and a half and I haven't received any sort of notification from The RealReal of where my package was located.

I sent an email to their customer support and their Consignor Relations Specialist told me my package hasn't even left my state yet. What? I told them that I used their pre-paid USPS shipping label that was provided. And told them I even gotten a confirmation email that they knew my package was picked up from USPS. The Consignor Relations Specialist was barely of any help and kept asking me if I used their shipping label or not and what type of clothing I packaged. I even sent them photos that I took of the package before even shipping it out. To this day, we're still emailing back and forth.

In the end, my package is lost out there and will never be in the hands of The RealReal. They failed to have the common decency to even notify me when they didn't see my package at their warehouse. Their customer support is not very helpful and they take nearly forever to respond back. Moral lesson, don't use The RealReal's consignment service unless you want your valuable clothing lost somewhere out there. Instead, go use a reliable consignment service like thredUP or just donate your clothing to Goodwill.

Tip for consumers:
Go use thredUP instead.

My shopping experience with BuyDig was just plain horrible, I regret buying from them. My first issue was ordering with PayPal, it was impossible for me. I kept getting an error that said "- Could not complete your order. Please try again. If the problem persists, please contact our customer service for assistance." I asked their customer support, which took them nearly forever to reply back to me. When they did, they told me to call them. I was awestruck. I told myself whatever, I'll just skip out on PayPal and pay using VISA Checkout. I placed an order for a pair of headphones on November 17,2015. A week passes by and I get not a single tracking number. I sent them an email and they told me they haven't even gotten the headphone in their warehouse yet... What? They said my headphone was still in the process of pre-ordering. This freaking blew me away. Okay, fine, whatever, I'll wait. I then later get a tracking number and I received my order today, December 1,2015. Let's begin the events leading to my reaction of how I first saw my package.

(This happened an hour ago at the time I'm writing this review.)
I went through my day happily until I heard a doorbell. I went outside to see what's up and saw a box on the front door. It had BuyDig labeled all over it. Excitingly I took the package into my house and I was really happy to forget all the bad things I went through with BuyDig. When I first placed the package down, I noticed... The box was really bent up. Especially in one of the corner and bottom. Worryingly, I opened up the package and my jaw dropped. The headphone packaging itself was damaged to the core. There was a gigantic bent middle of the box. At this point, I was scared to even open the package, worrying that the whole thing might be damaged and I would have to go through the painful process of returning it back to BuyDig. I then mustered up the courage and bravely opened the headphone packaging. It was worse than I thought... I couldn't even get the headphone out! The package was so badly bent, that the slider thing wouldn't slide out! I had to carefully expand the outer side of my fingers to quickly slide out the headphones. Getting the charging cable and manual wasn't as easy either. It required a lot of expanding with my fingers so I don't rip or damage the box in case of returning it. I believe I spent about half an hour trying to unbox the whole entire thing.

Overall, the whole entire experience was daunting. I don't think I'll ever buy a single thing from BuyDig ever again. The ordering process was horrible. Shipping took half a month (15 days). The package that I received looked like it went through a nuclear explosion. I honestly wouldn't recommend BuyDig at all.

Here are some photos that I took during my unboxing experience with my phone: https://flic.kr/s/aHskmPNzFG

Update (This happened around December of 2015): I had a person from BuyDig that called and left a voicemail saying that I should call them back so they can resolve my bad experience. I called the person and he didn't pick-up. I couldn't leave a voicemail because his voice mailbox was full (could you believe that?). I tried three times throughout the week and gave up.

Tip for consumers:
Just don't buy from BuyDig, please go somewhere else for a better shopping experience.
