I am a host and have had a group of young people who I went out of my way to try and prove stereotypes wrong. They were skateboarders with no reviews and I wanted to prove that just because they were young and had no reviews, they should not be deprived of accommodations. Well my humanity in this case was my undoing. When I returned back home after their departure, the front door was left ajar and when I waked in, I felt as if a hurricane had swept in. There was garbage laid knee high all over the floor with heaps of beer bottles, pizza boxes and crust and other foods spewed all over the apt. Bacon grease coagulating all over the kitchen. They got into my private closest and ransacked all my linens, they tried to pry into my locked storage closet. I had Beer and wine stains all over my furniture, weed butts all over the house and my $7K couch was burned from one of the joints in 2 places along with one of my beds.

I had contacted Airbnb on countless occasions for them to deal with this and to reimburse me the damages. Well they didn't get back to me month after month after repeated calls and threats nothing, finally in the middle of the 5th month they wrote me a short email stipulating that they would not be covering any expenses to the damages. Reason is they felt that my request was not up to scratch on what they felt was fair market value of the damages causes. I have issued them photos of damages and receipts of steam cleaning, cleaning crew, and reupholstery quote. I believe they assessed my furniture on the going rate in the thrift market valuation and not of higher end furniture that it was. This is unfortunately an all too familiar case as I have spoken to many other hosts who experienced similar cases all resolving to complete and utter negligence and absolve of the responsibility from Airbnb. They poignantly market their "Peace of mind policy of damage coverage of up to $1M. Much like a greasy sub grade insurance company, their knee jerk reaction is to deny first, ignore later. Airbnb, where is the reimbursement of my damages, where is my service, where is my Peace of mind?

I could keep going on and on about other issues I have had but I would need terabytes of servers to host my grievances with Airbnb.
The last resonating question I have for them is, how could a multi-billion dollar company be so amateur?
