Hello all,
I have hired a sitter from Rover.com from 05/31 to 06/13. I met with the person before sitting to make sure that she is real; I checked her rover.com profile and had 15 positive reviews on Rover.com. She was to housesit my dogs in my house. First, my next-door neighbor stated that she was not staying at the house for the first three days, even though she was to sleep there. He said that my disabled dog was out at 10 PM and she was NOWHERE to be found. I was in Europe at the time and I texted her that this is the case; and she came up with a story that her brother killed himself and she had to leave my dogs. IT was clear to me that she was lying since her affect was not congruent with someone who has just lost a close family member. She did not know that I had my friends checking on dogs as well. She came to the house at that point (as my friends have confirmed).
Then, 10 days later, I come home at 2 PM instead of 5 PM, just to find my two dogs fenced in a yard, while in my living room there were two other dogs and a 8 month old baby. Dogs she sat thru rover.com in my own home! Her hands were full since she was taking care of small baby and two other dogs in my house while my dogs were fenced.
Afterwards, about two days later, my septic system broke (this is a brand new home- no one else lived in it) and the company rep who came out to assess the system found out that someone (sitter since no one else has ever lived in the house) flushed un-flushable wipes causing $995 in damages; pretty soon my washing machine broke----a year old! The repairman stated that engine died because someone put a huge load to wash. To replace this was $1000.
Dogs were dirty, house smelled horrible after her care.
I called Rover.com and spend 40 minutes talking to a very nice person, but there was NOTHING that rover.com could do even though she was their employee. I am surprised at how little they can do, or want to do. And that they could not do ANYTHING despite horrible treatment that my dogs got; not to mention damage to my house.
Please be aware that person can have positive reviews, but still do a horrible job and rover.com will NOT do a thing to remedy this experience. Ooops, they will offer a personal match so they can find you another sitter through rover.com. Why would anyone hire another sitter with rover.com after what happened? And after finding out that you they do not stand behind the product they sell you. Buyer be aware!
