I purchased curtain fabric from the Spotlight Logan sale on the weekend. We found something just right on a table marked '$15 clearance' so we were very happy. The bolt of fabric we chose was at the very start of the second 'bay' of the long table. There were no dividers, no other signs on the table, nothing on the sign to say 'this bay only' or 'from' $15, or any such advice whatsoever, but when we paid we noticed we'd been charged $21 a metre. When we queried this we were told the clearance only applied to the 'first bay' of the long table. I challenged this because the sign said nothing of the the sort. I was curtly told to read the price label (which was silly in itself because if an item is placed into clearance, the original swing tag is generally left on) When I tried to challenge the misleading signage, I was told 'well, you have two options don't you, you can leave it here or you can pay $21 a metre because that's just how they do it'. Well, it should't be 'just how they do it' because I'm pretty sure Australian Consumer Law has a few things to say about misleading pricing! Unbelievably, now that I have investigated, it seems Spotlight give customers no specific avenues at all for making a complaint. Terrible service.
