About Me

40-year self-employed Accounting/Tax professional. Well traveled and multi-lengual I am very eclectic in my tastes and activities. I have a menagerie of 8 goats, 5 cats, 4 dogs and a hen. After taking care of the animals, I spend my time between my business where I help people fight taxing authorities, restoring my vintage 1929 home, doing volunteer work and looking for land for a real farm for my retirement.

How I Can Help

Obviously I have expertise in taxation and record-keeping. I am a Certified Internal Auditor and an IRS Enrolled Agent (think 'tax attorney' without the ability to go to court) and was elected as a Fellow of Forensic Accounting by Cambridge University. My 40 years of fighting the IRS and winning should help others if they have any questions regarding finance, accounting, budgeting, or taxation.

Interests

My family is #1 including pets & friends. I like reading & arts. They help me stay balanced.

I went to Lowes to purchase some supplies for our church. When I got to the front desk, I handed them our non-profit paperwork which they refused to accept saying that we weren't a 'real' religion and that they didn't have to recognize us. Well, the Federal Government recognizes us, the State recognizes us and we are exempt from the payment of taxes to either party. That Lowes was insisting we pay those taxes because we are not what they consider to be a 'real religion', is nothing short of bigoted and hateful. Everyone should know who and what this company is. This country is supposed to be based on religious freedom for all religions, not just the ones you like. Thank the Universe that there are other building supply locations who are not so narrow-minded.

I ordered a part online to pick up at the store the following morning. It was 'in stock" at the time I paid. The Store says it opens at 9 am. I arrived at 9:10 and went to the Customer Help desk. The child behind the desk let me stand there for 5 minutes before she even acknowledged I was there. I asked about my order and her response was "The computers aren't up yet, you'll have to wait." So I waited. Once the computers were up, my product - for which I had been charged and had the receipt to prove it - "wasn't available". I tried to explain that I had ordered online and been charged and she became petulant and rude. I asked her to check in the appropriate department and her response was "If they had it, it would be here already." So, I requested a supervisor. When the supervisor came I politely asked that she accompany me back to the department in question to see if my item was there. She did and it was - right on the shelf in plain sight! I grabbed it and walked back to the desk with her. I said to the child "I was back there, just as I said." and the supervisor then had the audacity to reprimand me and order me to not 'speak to' her staff. I took my part and left and I will NEVER go back.

This company is unbelievable! Their website 'offers' Pay Pal, but then it doesn't work. They offer credit/debit card payment - same problem. It tells you that 'a menu item you ordered is no longer available' but won't say which item is the problem. After 30 minutes of trying to order, I searched - and searched - and searched - and finally found a 'customer care' number where the person's idea of 'help' was to be exceptionally condescending and then tell me to 'use another browser' without even knowing what browser(s) I had already used. So I wrote to the company and after a trite apology, they said their site was working and recommended that I contact Pay Pal since it was 'obviously' their problem. They also said I should use another browser. They are rude, incompetent and unhelpful. I have the top used browsers on the internet - Explorer, Chrome and Firefox. My histories and cookies are deleted every time I close the browser. The problem is THEM and their attitude. Don't waste your time or your money of this useless company. Put them out of business so someone reputable can take over.

I do probably 90% of my shopping on Amazon. It is always my first stop for anything I need. I love the prices. I like that part of my purchase goes to my favorite charity. I like not having to go to a store - or several - to get what I need. I like the fast delivery rates and the subscription services for things I need regularly. My ONLY complaints, which is why it's only 4 stars instead of 5, are (1) they seriously waste a LOT of supplies packing small items in large boxes and not combining orders to a single address and (2) over the past two years, the rate of errors, non-delivery, and defective items has increased dramatically. I realize that it is due to the volume but, given that, I think they need to re-visit their return and replacement policies because its become very hard to get replacements and/or refunds when something goes wrong for most of the things I buy. Still the biggest bang for my buck online as far as I'm concerned.

The order and pickup service used to be HORRID, but it is greatly improved. I found that if you provide a very specific pickup time, it is likelier to be ready than if you just say 'today' or 'tomorrow'. And, sometimes, what is shown as available online is gone before they get around to putting your order together so you get there and not everything is in the order. But, overall, it does save time so I will keep using it.

The product sizes don't seem to correspond with normal sizes or their own size charts. I order a 2x and what I get is OBVIOUSLY meant for a petite but is marked 2x. This happened more than once. AND, Their return policy is horrible and SLOW. YOU have to pay for sending the items back even when it was their screwup and it takes FOREVER for a refund or replacement! I'll never buy from them again.
