  • NAPA Auto Parts

7/22/23

I tend to maintain older cars including a 1970 Cougar and NAPA has historically been a very reliable source of good quality parts. I recently stumbled on a website issue on a promotional item with wiper blades and free windshield cleaner when purchasing a pair of wiper blades. The promotional only works if you buy the exact same pair of wipers, not different lengths (driver side, passenger side) like found on many modern vehicles. When I visited the store to pick up my items, they were unable or unwilling to honor the promotion--they were mostly high school or college age who don't seem to know about cars or business. When I contacted their support, they dismissed it and closed the ticket. The same promotional came up 6 months later with the same issue. Its apparent their web designers never change their own wipers. Either way, small issues like this can reveal deeper issues with their organization, so I am using other suppliers currently.

Tip for consumers:
Pay attention to the final details and that specials are properly-applied

  • Groupon

I've had some pretty good deals with Groupon, but then I bought a remote controlled helicopter as a Christmas present for my nephew. The thing didn't work when he took it out of the box, and since I bought it more than 15 days before Christmas, they won't take it back--not even willing to discuss it. What other reputable site has a 15 day return policy-- absurd! One horrible experience more than offsets 5 really good experiences.

This is a scam website. They convinced my daughter to give a $350 deposit via PayPal then delayed the shipment and then sent a request for refundable $700 pet insurance.

  • NationalParkReservations

2/18/16

I was looking to make reservations at Yellowstone and this website came up as the website to make reservations at the park. When I tried to access their website from my work computer, our company IT Security blocks the website as a "Phishing" website as identified by CISCO and Dept of Homeland Security. Their SSL certificate is invalid, which is a red flag which raised my concern. Unfortunately, I had already made the reservations-- the customer service at their company was very friendly until I cancelled, when they get nasty and point to the small print and charged me 10% ($164) for the interaction. www.recreation.gov is the official site for making reservations in the parks.

  • Fandango

2/15/15

I have a Fandango gift card. When I tried to use the card to pay for a a movie today, it told me the combination of Card# and Claim code isn't valid--I tried multiple variations of claim code and card# entries to no avail. None of the examples of gift cards on the website matched mine. When I checked the card on the website, it told me I have $25. Then when I tried to contact customer service number, it told me to call back later and hung up on me. When I tried to chat, I was told the wait time was 39 minutes... really!?! Since this is my first time using Fandango, the impression was not good and nothing that would make me want to use the website again.

Tip for consumers:
Horrible first impression on all fronts. Avoid

Complete waste of money. They charge $14 for their services to give you the same links from the official Colo State website. Avoid them!

What a piece of crap! Bought RC Helicopter via Groupon (another piece of crap website). Items arrive broken no one can help me get them replaced. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THESE CLOWNS!

  • MyLampParts

7/7/10

Bought what I thought were some new replacement parts for a floor lamp. What was received were used parts packed in newspaper in a used spaghetti box. The prices were great but were offset with exorbitant shipping and handling. Website is sketchy. Part listing doesn't mention fact that the part I bought was used. When I contacted them, they were rude.
