  • B-Rhymes

8/11/11

I had been looking for something like this for a while and finally found it. When I am writing my poems sometimes I get stuck on a part where I need a rhyming word and can't think of one. That's where B-Rhymes comes in. All you do is type in the word and it gives you a whole list of rhyming words. Not only that, but it even gives you words that aren't perfect rhymes, but that nearly or somewhat rhyme. It's "not stuck up about what does and doesn't rhyme", as the site says. It breaks up the rhyming words into parts also, showing you which parts are perfect rhymes and which parts do not rhyme. If after you get a list of your chosen rhyming word, you see a word on the list that you like and want to find rhymes for, all you do is click on "Rhyme it" next to that word, and it then rhymes that word for you, and so on if you choose. Also, I love how next to each word that comes up, there's an option to "Look it up", and clicking this will bring you to the word's definition on Dictionary.com. Not bad. The only thing I dislike about this site is that some of the words I typed in were not recognized by the site. But when this happens, a message comes up saying "failed searches are logged so i can add missing words periodically, thanks for finding one!". So there ya go. Great little helper site.

I love this jewelry/accessory site! Apparently, so do the editors of several magazines because their items are frequently featured in some of the most popular magazines in the US! I always explain Girlprops like this: Their jewelry is not CHEAP, it's INEXPENSIVE. There's a huge difference! I have never been let down by Girlprops! They have THE cutest jewelry items for THE best prices. Literally. From bangles to vintage jewelry, zodiac themed jewelry to cocktail rings, you will not be able to stop adding items to your bag when you shop at this site. And you won't feel bad because everything is so inexpensive! They have quirky items like a banana necklace, cigarette earrings, and lamb rings, just to name a few. I love their 1980's vintage items. Sometimes I even buy items off here to incorporate the pieces into my jewelry projects. For instance, last month I bought the multi record charms earrings and necklace ($5.99 & $6.99). Alltogether it was 12 brightly colored assorted neon plastic record charms, and I gladly added them to my jewelry making stash to use in future projects. Don't get me wrong, I buy TONS of jewelry on here to actually wear, too. But once in a while I find something great that I know I can use for one of my projects. Also I must note that their customer service is EXCELLENT. One time my order was missing a ring I had ordered (only happened once... honest, human mistake), and I e mailed them telling them it was not in there but that I obviously had no way to prove it wasn't in there. I received a response back the next DAY saying that they know I wouldn't lie about a $2.00 Gumball Ring and they would be happy to send me the ring right away. I received it promptly. Love this site. Definitely one of my favorites.

Alloy is a wonderful clothing site because they cater to all sizes. As a plus size person myself, it's hard to find nice clothes that are actually worthy of wearing. Alloy has regular as well as plus size clothing including jeans, shirts, dresses, etc. Their clothes are SO cute. I absolutely LOVE the clothes sold on Alloy. Also, I like how you can choose the inseam of jeans/pants you want - short, regular, tall. Their descriptions of their items are very... descriptive, lol. Really though, LOVE their graphic tees, LOVE their super wide flared jeans, LOVE the loungewear. I also love how everything is categorized so nicely. Everything is broken down so if you choose, you can search for something by brand, inseam, fit, wash, etc. They also always have a clearance section with AWESOME steals. I always get lost in this section lol. They also have cute bags, jewelry, and accessories, and any order over $75 qualifies for free shipping! Can't beat that! Only gripe: Some of the graphic tees they have only go up to XL. I have had to pass up so many awesome tees because of that! :( But the site still rocks! :)

  • Amazon

Hands down best "everything" store there is on the web. Great deals, fast shipping, good customer service. I can buy a book for $5 on Amazon that would normally be $25 elsewhere. I also love their free super saver shipping, where you get free shipping if your order totals $25 or over. This qualifies for most items on Amazon but not with the individual sellers. As far as they go, I do buy from individual sellers frequently. Books, mostly. I wouldn't be caught dead buying any craft supplies on Amazon, though. The shipping is something like $7 for a pack of stickers! That's the only gripe I have. Everything else is great. I also love their Personal Recommendations. Always right on the money with what I like... and always makes me end up buying more stuff than I originally planned! With me, I go on for something specific and end up going on an Amazon shopping spree (and going broke lol). Love!

Ok, honestly? I cannot find anything wrong with this website. First of all, it has to be the most popular bead/jewelry making supplies website on the Internet. Second, it has literally EVERYTHING you can think of related to jewelry making. Also, they offer discounts if you buy in bulk. The site is very easy to navigate and you quickly find what you're searching for. Their customer service is excellent, they ship FAST, and even include a free gift with your order! Everything is always packed neatly also. I get the Mystery Bags on there a lot for $10 and am never disappointed with the variety of goodies I receive! The site also has a gallery of designs, beading instructions, and a return policy that states 100% refund, no time limit, no questions asked. I've never had to return anything but from my experiences on the site I wouldnt doubt the credibility for a second.

  • StumbleUpon

8/10/11

This is one of my favorite websites to pass the time. I use it pretty much everyday. I love discovering new websites. I also love how you can customize the categories you like so you stumble on pages that are catered to your personal preferences. There are a lot of topics to choose from too.

My only gripe is once in a while it will bring me to a site that has nothing to do with any of my topic preferences. But hey, no one's perfect, right?

Also, I noticed that I get brought to a lot of pages with just one photo. I am assuming this is because of the photography category I checked off, which I love photography, but not just looking at some random photo on one random page with nothing else on it lol. Other than that, this is a really great site.

I love how you can follow people/have followers, browse or stumble through other users favorites, send messages, and review any website you want. I also have the SU toolbar installed on my browser. I love this. It's at the top of the browser under the menu bar, and has very convenient and useful buttons. The first one is a "Stumble" button. This is great because you can hit the button from ANY website you are on to start stumbling. You don't have to be on the SU website to start stumbling. There is also a pull down menu in the toolbar where you can stumble only a certain subject at that time if you choose. Also, there's a Like and Dislike button. With the Like button, you can click it on any website you want (again, doesn't have to be on the SU site) and the site will be added to your SU favorites. I go crazy with this button! Lol. Also there is a Dislike button, which helps SU cater more towards your preferences by weeding out the kind of websites you don't like. There is also a share button, to share to facebook and twitter, an Info button to see other SU users who Liked that page, a Favorites button, and Inbox to check your SU messages.
This is a website that will never go out of style because there will always be new websites to stumble through!

I like this site because I find lots of original and interesting images on it. The only gripe I have is that there is a lot of issues with copyright and posting other peoples' photos on your own site without their permission. I guess for some people, stating on your main page that you do not have any rights to any of the photos you post unless otherwise stated isn't enough for some people. I've had some issues with things like that and it's irritating, but still like the site to find unique pictures and easy to find with keywords.

  • Etsy

8/10/11

I have read some of the past reviews and I can only say that I'm lucky I haven't run into any disputes with sellers or buyers and haven't had to contact the Etsy staff for anything in my approximately 5 years or so of using it. HOWEVER, I did have words with one seller, who I was looking at the switchplates she decorated in her store (which I also had started making switchplates. I was a beginner so I was looking around Etsy to see what techniques other people used to make theirs)... I asked her what she used to seal her switchplates with. That's all. And she FLIPPED out on me... saying that she sees switchplates in m store and she knows I'm going to copy her, and shes reporting me to Etsy and all these horrible things. So I basically tore her a new one, to put it nicely. She apologized because she realized what an $#*!&*$% she was being, and told me she was having a bad day. Whatever. But that's the only problem I ever had. Other than that, the sellers and buyers have been friendly. I love this site because it's so incredibly inspiring, I could spend hours looking through the stores and items... and spending way too much money on stuff! I sell also. It's just a really fun, really unique website. I couldn't do without it.

  • Listgeeks

I found this site by reading the review of another Site Jabber user. I absolutely adore making lists, and have since I was little. I even own many of the List Yourself books, as well as the Listography books. The concept of this website is simple: Make a list. About anything. And browse through other peoples' lists. Sometimes a simple website is a website you can get lost in!

  • PostSecret

8/10/11

I couldn't decide whether I wanted to give this site a 3 or a 4, so let's just call it even at a 3 1/2. It's interesting to read these "secrets" that are sent in by random anonymous people, but as previous reviewers said, how do we really know what's real and what's not? Either way, it's fun to read, and I find I can relate to a lot of the secrets that are posted. I can see why this site has become so popular.

  • Pinterest

8/10/11

First of all, I can't believe this site only has two reviews! I almost fainted! Seriously though, I LOVE this website. It's not extremely often that I give a website five stars. I'm a pessimist - I always find something wrong with everything. But with Pinterest, I really can't find anything worth complaining about. ONE thing though, like the other reviews and comments talk about, the whole "Invitation Only" thing is a bit absurd. I don't really see the point of doing that. But thankfully my invite came within a few days, so I really don't have much to complain about. I love this site because it is so incredibly customizable! You can make pin boards on ANY topic you want. You can also search for pins or pinboards on any topic you want, and "repin" other peoples' pins onto your pin boards (you still with me?). You can also "like" items, if you like them but not enough to repin them. This is one of my top websites for inspiration and motivation. I always hoard pins from other boards because I find such awesome stuff that I didn't even know existed! I have a board for DIY projects, rainbows, neons, make up/looks, stuff for the home, typography and photos, beautiful spaces and places, and a few more. It's definitely addicting! Like I said, I'm surprised there are only two reviews on this site! One of my absolute favorites, hands down!

  • All My Faves

8/10/11

I found SO many of my favorite websites through this awesome site. The site lists the top websites in 44 different categories for each year dating all the way back to 2007. Every week they have a "Weekly Faves" category which lists the "Faves" for that week. I am not sure how often they update the websites for all the categories listed, but the site boasts that the team members of AMF are constantly weeding out the sites that are no good, and only bringing in the very best of what the internet has to offer. They want to simplify navigation and make it so users can "smoothly cruise on the vast internet highway" and find what they're looking for in their chosen category without hassle. Well, count me in. The only gripe I have with this website is that a lot of the weekly faves for the previous years are no longer up and running, yet are still listed in the weekly faves as if they are. Someone should also be "weeding out" the sites that are no longer in existence! Well, other than that, it's a great time passer and like I said, I found so many great sites through here. They even have a blog which lists their newly found/popular sites with a brief synopsis of each one, updated at least every few days from what I've seen.

  • Page99test

After reading page 99 would you want to turn the page? This website is dedicated to showing you page 99 of a random book, and letting you make the decision of whether or not you would want to continue reading the book, based on this SINGLE page, which will always be the books 99th page. You will see page 99's from both published and unpublished writers, but you won't know which is which until after you rate each one. Of course you can always upload your own page 99 as well for others to read and rate. For each page 99, you vote on whether you would turn the page or not, and leave feedback if you choose. You can also read the back cover of the book and choose your favorite genres for random picks that are most accustomed to your taste. The reason I gave it only 3 stars though is because you are only allowed to upload three "Page 99's", and if you want to upload more, you have to delete the one(s) you already have up. Also, after your "Page 99" is rated 30 times the site will no longer show your page to its users. Also, there are very limited menu options, and when I say very limited, what I really mean is next to none. There are no profiles, and your only options are "My uploads", "Upload a Page", and "Logout" (aside from the "read a random page" button). Last but certainly not least, there is no option to contact customer service! This is a big no-no for me. When I use a website I want to be able to contact someone for help and/or questions if I need to. But all in all it's a fun idea.

I wanted to pick a unique site for my first review EVER (on here, lol), so I picked "How It Is", which is a project created by UK's Miroslaw Balka. Though I really like the site, it is difficult to explain. Basically, it's a type of art project Balka created, It takes you to this black, interactive, borderline scary "cave", and you navigate through it with the mouse. There are many strange things to come upon. Things that again, I cannot explain. It's just something you have to see for yourself. I gave it four stars because it is engaging and kept me interested for a while. I actually didn't finish going through the whole thing in one sitting because it was nighttime and it was starting to freak me out a bit lol. The site insists that you wear headphones, and I figured out why! Strange, intriguing, different, interactive, unexplainable art. Somewhat like a game, only... not. Some parts are somewhat disturbing in a sense, but that's just my opinion. Go see for yourself.
