Hello,
I have to tell you about my order from Tire Rack:
Shipped 09/02/2014 out of Delaware.
The order got here fast and I was happy with the tires and rims with free mount and balance.
I had recently replaced the struts on my car and wanted to replace the rims and tires at the same time.
After installing the new wheels and tires, I noticed that the ride was quite bumpy.
Thinking that the car had a lot of miles I diagnosed it as bad wheel bearings and replaced them:
Same thing - bumpy as heck.
Now one of the bearings was bad for sure, but when I replaced them I noticed some pretty uneven tire wear on these new tires.
So I diagnosed as tie rods.
Changed inner tire rods and outer tire rods, had the front end alignment done:
Same thing real choppy ride.
I replaced the lower ball joints, and had another front end alignment done: I had paid Firestone for the all you can eat, so no additional cost:
Same thing choppy bouncy ride.
Well, it must be the CV joints; I will have to replace the axle.
"Hold on" my wife said.
"Everybody I talk to says it's the tire balance" she informed me.
"Yes, that is the obvious thing to check" I countered. "But what you don't know, is that these particular tires were mounted and balanced on new wheels from Tire Rack"
"They were already balanced professionally by experts"
Well to make a long story short:
My wife was right.
I took my car to Walmart to have the balance "checked".
I asked to speak with the tech when they had finished. I asked him: "Were the tires were out of balance?"
"No" he replied, "THEY WERE WAY WAY OUT OF BALANCE."
My question is:
How do I ever live this down?
I mean I spent the last 5 or 6 weekends lying in my driveway throwing on parts that I really didn't need.
And the worse thing is -- It was my wife that figured it out!
Did you get that? MY FREAKING WIFE FIGURED IT OUT!
