About Me

I work as a counsellor and psychotherapist in Yarraville in Melbourne's West. In my practice, I specialise in anxiety treatment as well as relationship counselling with couples and families. One of my interests and specialisations is Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) and its treatment.

How I Can Help

Anxiety in all its forms does not have to mar your happiness. I take a multi-therapy approach to that creative little critter, anxiety. I use Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) but that's only a start. I use a range of other therapies which in combination allow you to escape.

Interests

I love going to the movies, swimming and reading. Not simultaneously of course.

The books are fine - nothing to do with Audible. The narrators are varied in quality but fairly good. The main issue is that one can't download the books onto a laptop running Windows. I can download onto my phone but I need to use my phone as a phone. I've spent hours trying to contact audible.com.au customer service people. They give contradictory and useless advice. I even had one staff member access my laptop remotely to download a book. She couldn't so promised to call back. She didn't. Then the next customer-couldn't-care-less person apologises but he apologises that the Audible staff couldn't reach me when they tried. They didn't try. Anyone who telephones me can go to voicemail if I'm not there and their number is recorded. I WANT A REFUND.

I've been a member of the counselling directory Australia Counselling for a few years.

Clinton Power established the directory and I am so impressed by the amount of work he does for the emotional and mental health practitioner community via his membership site.

In recent years, he teamed up with Juliet Austin and together they arrange and offer top rate professional learning opportunities for counsellors and psychotherapists via their podcasts entitled The Ask Juliet and Clinton Show. As well as therapeutic topics focusing on how to treat depression, anxiety, addiction etc the podcasts cover topics that are not covered in-depth in University courses - eg building a professional practice; how to market courses; how to establish an email list.

Through their Mind Body Institute they provide online courses offered by some of the world's best counselling and psychotherapy practitioners. As only one example, I completed recently a brilliant course offered via live webinar with Dr Ellyn Bader. Ellyn is a couples therapist who brought to our profession the developmental approach to couples therapy. In turn, that has been an extremely useful prism through which to see conflict in couples and families.

Thank you Clinton for all your energetic work. There's an annual fee that works out at approximately $4 per week. Great value especially when compared with other organisations.

A little background - I learned Greek because my husband Sotiris Plesiotis was Greek and I wanted to bring our children up to speak Greek, French because I loved it and Gaeilige (Irish) because it's my native language. English was the language of the colonising force in Ireland and I'm glad I learned it.

My PhD is in second language pedagogy, or how best to teach and learn a second language. So, I am keen on languages.:-)

Chinese? What a challenge! Especially for what I call (linguistically speaking) the mumblers of the world, the English speakers. In Chinese one must be precise with vowel sounds and then there are four tones. I love it. I found the first twenty lessons very challenging because I was inept. It was difficult for my ego.

Then the lovely, patient and very encouraging TutorMing tutors - Sunshine, Miranda, Sophie... so many, made me feel as if I might one day master their incredible linguistic code.

I am now keen and confident to keep going. This year has been difficult because my business has expanded and it has invaded my Chinese learning time. I remain keen. Thank you so much to TutorMing. I love going to Chinese restaurants here in Melbourne (Australia) and surprising people by saying "I don't eat meat but I love your vegetables".
