  • Gay Authors

GA is a unique community of gay writers and readers that range in ages from their teens to their 90s. It is the home to a number of very popular authors. As an author, I've never had reason to complain about the site management as long as I worked with them and didn't behave like a jackass.

  • Pintrest

As a geek, I have a number of things that interest me. On Pinterest, I can create albums of my geeky interests and collect all sorts of stuff about them. For instance, one of my favorites is Album Art. I've got numerous scans of the art from albums from the sixties forward. My other boards are Fossils, Earth Science, Astronomy, Messier Objects, electronics and so on.
I don't really use Pinterest as "social media". My boards are for ME. If you like them too, that cool.
It is a good place to organize all of your favorite trivia that you might otherwise lose.

  • Target

I can always count on Target. There aren't many in my area but I've never been in one that is not obviously well managed. I've noticed the sort of attention to detail that separates the just MEH businesses from the winners.

  • Amazon

9/11/17

Maybe I'm weird but Amazon has never given me any reason to complain. I've been a customer since 2005 and have yet to have a bad transaction. I did have an order that seemed to take forever to arrive but when I checked on it, it was coming from South Korea. Since then I've paid attention to where the Amazon partner is located.

  • Home Depot

The good: if its hardware or you need it in the lawn, it's probably there if you go online or look hard enough.
The Bad: In store help often has no idea what you are talking about.

  • Walmart

You can get anything you want... If you are up to a hike. These monster stores are everywhere and they offer online ordering.
It's the 800 pound gorilla of retail, now getting its feet wet online.

  • Reddit

Social media sites are a dime a dozen. Reddit is one of the elder statesmen in this group. It is a big, dynamic site with tons of users, but they aren't very tolerant of differing opinions. Reddit's tolerant liberals are quite intolerant and downright bigoted towards older people and those of us who hail from the Southern United States.
Reddit suffers from the same biases and groupthink as most social media sites. It uses a "comment karma" system where popular posts are up-voted and unpopular posts are down-voted.
If you like what everybody else likes, and think like everyone else thinks, you're good. If you think differently, you'll be down voted mercilessly. It is that same dynamic that made middle school so obnoxious for most people.
Reddit has some great content, but you will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy among their user base.
If you use Reddit, pick your "communities" (areas of interest) and stay there. There are other users who are so obnoxious and petty, if you say something they object to, they will look up all of your posts, on any subject, and down vote them. DO NOT be slow to block the hard core a-holes.
Reddit is an interesting site, but its user base needs an enema.

  • MyLife

11/2/21

Never, ever fall for this.
MyLife dumps all sorts of interesting spam on you. I went for the $1 3 day trial.
Anything they may have promised will cost more and more and more.
Worse- the information about you and others is most probably wrong.
I was surprised to discover that I owned a grocery store three counties away from my address of forty years.
If you go for the trial be sure to record your member number, so you can use it to cancel. They play dumb when you opt out and pretend to have problems unless you do.
Any promises this site makes will be behind more pay walls.
Don't fall for it. Their information is probably wrong.

Tip for consumers:
Go elsewhere

  • Facebook

10/9/18

Facebook is OK for what it is- a social media site that steals and sells your information. Understand that going in.
However, if you are at all political and not a demotwit, you get on their $#*! list. They will ban you for what seems like random things. I got 30 days for bantering with someone over a college football rivalry. Mudslime moderator thinks calling someone that goes to the University of Georgia a "DOG" is a horrible insult. It's $#*! like this that had made me swear at and swear off of disgracebook. I will soon be back from my latest ban but I will have no more use for facebook.
What you don't know about facebook is that when it bans you, you are also banned by all the other sites that you use facebook to log into. I DID NOT CONSENT TO GIVE THOSE BASTARDS THAT KIND OF POWER.
FU facebook. We're done.

  • Twitter

10/9/18

Their most insidious method of censorship is the shadow ban. Basically you can tweet all you want, no one can see it. If I didn't have a lot of time and effort on the platform, I would dump it. Unless you are a decadent, depraved Marxist pervert, don't get started on twatter. You won't be welcomed and you can expect censorship.

  • Quora

9/11/17

If you are on the right of say... Karl Marx, quora will hate you. They will downvote and report your answers until the moderators get fed up and ban you. They may BS you by babbling about their policies but all you have to do is spend a few months there and you'll see. All it amounts to is a popularity contest for leftists. If you've ever been to junior high school you'll get that vibe very fast.
