Secunia is a great tool to make sure your computer is up-to-date and secure. I use PSI (Personal Software Inspector) and have found it to be great. It is hard to understand at first, but it really does give you a detailed report. If a program is out-of-date, it will provide you with a solution or installation link. Really does make updating your computer easier. Recommended product.

Not a bad blog. This is an unofficial Facebook blog that provides you with some insight as to what is happening in the world of Facebook. It also shows you the bigger picture (In example, how Facebook is changing society and how its changed the world of communication and media). Legitimate website, no viruses.

RSS Feed Search Engine is a fantastic tool. The best way to avoid spam is to be careful who you give your email address to. We often want to keep up-to-date with the latest news, or subscribe to a newsletter. Many will put in their email address without considering the risks.

Just because you believe a site is safe doesn't mean you should enter your email address into their mailing system. Why? Because hackers for instance could penetrate their security system and steal all email addresses, and worse sell them to marketers. With RSS Feeds, you don't have to worry about that.

This site makes finding RSS feeds easy. For example, type down "Google" or "Firefox" to subscribe.

What do you love is a recent Google initiative.
It works like Google search, but in a completely different way. Enter something you love, then you can get further information on it. For example, Firerfox will return the web ranking, books about FF and even how to pronounce Firefox in 57 different languages. Nothing too flash, but some may find some use out of this.

  • Australia Surveypanel

I recommend no one registers with Australia Survey Panel. I consistently get spammed and spammed and spammed from this site. I have attempted to remove my email address, however had no success. WOT has also given it a poor rating.

  • OnGuardOnline

6/23/11

This site is an initiative by the Federal Trade Commission, as stated below. It's goal is to teach and promote online safety. For example, OnGuardOnline.gov has a large database of resources to protect you from scams and how to prevent viruses and malware. But that's not it. Social networking and identity fraud are also big in today's world, so this has also been covered on the website.

Interesting website. Lets say you were out on Sunday and didn't get the chance to look at all the photos your friends put up, or you want to read your comments? But the problem is - you're at work and you don't want to get caught. What do you do? Install Excellbook. What is it? Basically, it makes your Facebook appear in an excel like way. Pretty sneaky, uh?

  • PeerBlock

I have seen a number of reviews on this site over the past few months on various sites. The reviews seemed to be positive so I continued and installed PeerBlock. It does exactly what it says. Even though initially this was used to stop the Government eyes from preying on you when downloading torrents, it now can be used to prevent hackers and stop malicious software being installed on your computer through ads. It will block over 700,000 IP Addresses, which is fantastic! Makes you feel that sense of been secure.

I have used Norton antivirus for some years now. In 2011, I switched from Norton Internet Security to Norton 360 5.0 to give that a go. I am a very dissatisfied customer because it completely slows down my computer and it is horrible protecting me from hackers and viruses. I spoke to a computer expert down at a store and he told me that he would never recommend Norton to his clients. He, in fact, said to buy Trend-Micro Titanium Maximum Security. He said that its cheaper, it doesn't slow down the computer performance like Norton and it has much better protection. I think I might have to give it a go!

Home to SpywareBlaster. This is a free passive protection tool that will secure your browser against potentially unwanted software and sites. It will also prevent the installation of spyware and other potentially unwanted software from gaining access to your computer.

Now - most do not know that one cannot have two live antivirus programs running at the same time as they conflict and can cause system instability. However, passive protection programs such as SpywareBlaster are compatible running with other antivirus software.

Have an interest reading over 14,000 emails from former Governor Sarah Palin's personal account? Well - this site gives you the real emails in a gmail-style way. I haven't read all, nor do I intend to, but still found this interesting. The site SarahsInbox.com is a project by the Sunlight Foundation and the emails were released under the FOIA.

  • ShowSpace

6/15/11

Fantastic website and designed well. Its an alternative site to NASA to get the latest news about space. Its a great read and very informative. However - I will warn that it won't be as accurate and dependable like NASAs website. Overall - 4 stars!

Another Firefox must have add-on.
Found a good website or news article but you don't have enough time to read it? Well add this great extension. It is so much easier and quicker than bookmarking a page. Just a simple click then your done.

Do you want a professional looking email signature?
Do you want a social signature so that people can find you online? In example, your Facebook account, your RSS feeds or even your very own blog-page?

Well - WiseStamp does just that. It works as a Firefox extension and will work with email clients such as Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo! Mail, etc.

  • RunningAHEAD

Absolutely love RunningAhead.com! Its a website that lets you record your running. In addition to that, you can write down what you did at gym and your swimming tasks. The site will record the miles you ran, the time you did your run, the weather, along with notes, heart rate and some other pretty cool stuff. You can also put up your race results and time and it will let you know your personal best for that distance.

  • Heidi Computers Limited

6/9/11

Heidi.ie is the home of Eraser, a file shredding program. Even though it does take some patience, it will get the job done much better than most other programs. I have been using the program for the past several years with no problems whatsoever.

  • Quixey

6/8/11

I often have had a hard time finding apps online, and recently found a search engine that makes life a little easier. Even though Quixey is currently in Beta stage, it is user-friendly and well designed. Its as simple as telling the engine what you want to do, then it will give you a number of applications that can help.

  • VS Revo Group

Great program. Saves you time going into your control panel each time to uninstall software. It also has more advanced features to remove all traces of the program that are often left behind.

  • Reverse Australia

6/5/11

I once upon a time did a Google search on my house phone number and found the results come up on this page. I opened the page up and questioned myself how they had such information about us. For example, our address, names, service provider, maps and a whole lot more information. I found this interesting frankly because we are set to private.

Anyway - I made contact with Reverse Australia and asked them how they obtained such information and politely asked them to remove my details. Within 5 minutes, I had received a response and they deleted all the information. They also told me where the information was obtained from, in which they said was from a telemarketer company. But I am very satisfied with how they handled the situation.

  • Tor Project

This would have to be a personal favorite. This program along with Sandboxie almost completely makes you anonymous online. I would recommend this to anyone concerned about their privacy online.
