  • Mail Store

6/9/11

MailStore.com is a free tool for home users and has a business version also for a good price. MailStore is a client that will archive all your emails so that you can free up some space on your account. No need to manually archive, just enter a couple details about your email account and set up automatic forwarding and then you're done!

  • Microsoft Photosynth

6/9/11

I am surprised that no one has rated this one. From the minute you open up the homepage, to the minute you leave, you'll feel that "wow" feeling inside. Basically, there are two types of photos for this website: Panorama and Synth. However - the website is more about Synth photos. These are more complex photos as they aren't what you'd call a "single-image". It basically turns your photos into a 3D look-alike world. Really good quality, also!

Do not use! It is covered in viruses and will ruin your computer. Websites such as Norton safe-web have over 400 reviews with most saying not to use their service.

  • CSS3 Code Generator For Buttons, Forms & Alerts

6/8/11

CSS3 provides site developers with a quick and easy way to create boxes that customers would find attractive. Its rather simple, instead of wasting time writing codes, head off to CSS3 and they will generate one for you!

Personally, this website makes me feel safe and secure compared to most others. It has a file vault that can store up to 2GB for free, along with managing your own personal identity page. It also can be useful to store your passwords and safely sign into your favorite websites with one click. To secure your account even more, in addition to a username and password, you can set up a digital certificate or have a code sent to your phone for extra security.

  • 404checker

6/7/11

This website has some useful tools for Web Masters. It can tell whether a site returns a 404 status, check domains, WhoIS Lookup and even search your IP and your location.

  • Folk Direct

6/6/11

Folkdirect.com is a brand new social network devoted to its customers privacy. Even though its rather new with very few members I believe it has a positive future ahead of them. Maybe even the next Facebook. Huh? I wish them good luck!

  • TrueCrypt

6/4/11

Surprised this doesn't have a comment yet. This is again another OpenProject I support. It's particularly useful when you have important documents such as bank files that you don't want others to read. The best part about it is YOU do the encrypting so no one, not even TrueCrypt themselves can Decrypt the files.

  • Popup Check

9/24/11

Really cool tool to test how effective your browser is at blocking pop-ups! The site gives you an option to go through basic right to advanced tests that most browsers don't protect you against. Some tests they do are: basic pop-up, HREF-method pop-up allowing, Javascript and even flash tests.

  • Gpg4win.org

Are you a business owner that sends confidential documents through email? If not - this can still come in good use for individuals. In example, you've changed doctors and you want to give your new physician all your health records.

GPG4Win.org offers a freeware program that lets you both encrypt and digitally sign your emails. I however do not recommend this to computer novices. It does require an advanced understanding to use this application. I tried it several months ago, but I gave up. I decided to try again last week and finally figured it out.

The good side is that it does come with a PDF that explains what to do (in both English and German). In addition to this - you can also test how it works first by exchanging your public keys with an email-based robot. This makes the learning process fun and somewhat easier.

All in all - I'm really happy I've come across this site!

I was doing some research into social media and branding last night and came along this website. It isn't too bad to be honest. For someone young, she has much potential in the social media field. Her role is to support small businesses become effective at branding themselves online through social networks and blogs. Its presented well and a site that I'd recommend to businesses that are having trouble developing an online presence. Good work, Amy Schmittauer.

This is a great site! It has thousands of resumes that people have submitted. It has resumes from various backgrounds, levels and countries. It will no doubt give you some more ideas for your resume.

  • Anonplus

7/18/11

Hacking Group Anonymous has decided to set up their very own social network that will be open to the public in the future. The site at the moment is in development, but I do suggest that when they open that you don't register. Its obvious that privacy and security will be a big concern with this website as black hat hackers cannot be trusted. More information regarding Anonymous can be found here on Wikipedia: https :// secure. Wikimedia. Org/wikipedia/en/wiki/Anonymous_%28group%29

  • Primadesk

7/12/11

Primadesk: Do you want to backup your cloud? Well sign onto this site and backup Yahoo, Facebook, Dropbox, Google and more. The site is safe and is trusted by both VeriSign & TRUSTe. The site supports AES-256bit encryption.

  • FileForum

7/6/11

Site is safe, most downloads are OK. Norton at one stage did rate the site as bad, and said it contained malicious software. However - this is not the case now and Norton has given the green sign. Like all sites - there are security risks, thus I recommend exercising caution. Reading the reviews on each download before you install them might be a good first step.

This site was detected and black listed for spam activity. Further information can be seen at Joe Wein's site here: http://www.joewein.de/sw/spam-bl-e.htm

  • OpenVPN

7/5/11

OpenVPN is a fantastic, easy-to-use proxy tool.

100MB free data each 24hrs. There is also a paid version for those who want more data. Proxies are for those who are really concerned about privacy. It hides your IP address, along with physical location and other details that most websites collect from users.

Proxies can prevent people from tracking down your location. It will also stop your Internet Provider from tracking you. The paid version has cheap deals, not too bad. It does work, and well.

  • Google

7/3/11

According to the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF), Google has made some significant improvements in regards to user privacy and security.

Gmail and Google Beta (SSL) now support secured connections. Gmail also has a second password that can be set up and sent to the phone. Google Privacy
Center lets you opt-out of history logging and even a Google Analystics opt-out plugin can be set-up.

In addition to this - Gmail lets you set up usernames and you don't have to use your real one in public forums. Photos and documents can be stored and locked from public view. Google search lets you block up to 500 sites, and Google search also lets you set up a "safe-browsing" mode.

I could go on forever - but Google has improved over the last few months and is more reliable than before. It even monitors the web for your personal information (e.g. Your name, address, numbers, etc) once set up.

  • Meebo

7/1/11

For the people that have friends on various IM networks, this is a great tool for you. Meebo.com puts all the big instant messenger networks into one site so that you can communicate to all your friends and family at once without the need to download several IMs onto your computer.

The best part about Meebo is that it encrypts all your messages, thus it cannot be read through transit. This is the only service to encrypt your messages other than Skype. Meebo.com supports AES-256 bit encryption. This is the strongest form of encryption possible. Its a good site overall.

  • Ninite

6/30/11

What is Ninite? Well - lets say you crashed you W7 and had to install your OS again. It sounds like an awful lot of work though, right? Well now its so much easier with this site. Just install your OS again, open up this address in IE and then you can download several programs at once. It makes adding all your favorite programs really easy.
