  • ASICS America

7/3/11

Asics are the best shoe brand around. It helped support my knee pain during my runs. It reduces the shock to the knee. I also had a friend with Achilles Tendon and he said that Asics was a fantastic shoe. It gave him extra padding and support, thus he was able to keep running and it recovered within a couple months.

  • VirtualBox

7/3/11

Do you like experimenting with computers? Do you often install programs from the internet that you're not sure is safe? Then I would like to recommend this.

This software installs a virtual Operating System (OS) within your computer. It is often used to experiment with new programs, or to learn how to set something up. For example - you have W7 and want to install TrueCrypt, but first you want to install it in a virtual OS to make sure you get it right before installing it on your actual computer. This prevents you from making mistakes on your actual computer - so its a really handy tool to have.

  • Gold Coast Marathon

7/2/11

The Gold Coast Marathon is the best running event I've ever competed in. Each year on the first weekend (both Saturday & Sunday) the GC Marathon & HM is on. It is highly organised with both local and international competitors along with world-class athletes. It is a tough race, but with the music along the way, the beautiful beach view during dawn and the loud roar of thousands of spectators at the finish line makes it all worth it! I recommend this event to anyone who loves running.

P.S. As the 2011 GCM is on now you can go onto the site and watch their live webcam.

  • Khan Academy

7/1/11

Excellent online educational source. This site has over 2 400 videos covering topics from arithmetic to physics, finance and history. It is beneficial to people of all ages. It could be used for high-school students or even adults that want to improve their skills, or for those oldies that want to refresh their memory. This site is highly recommended.

  • Ninite

6/30/11

What is Ninite? Well - lets say you crashed you W7 and had to install your OS again. It sounds like an awful lot of work though, right? Well now its so much easier with this site. Just install your OS again, open up this address in IE and then you can download several programs at once. It makes adding all your favorite programs really easy.

CIA

This site is the home of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). I have found this site as a great source to come to when doing studies about other countries. It is very informative, with great detail. The site contains a World Fact book and various de-classified intelligence reports. It also has an education section, and a virtual museum in which you can study some interesting WWII and CIA facts.

I have also come across something interesting that I found a few months ago, and thought I should share. In the URL Bar - write "skull and bones" all together and add a ". Com" to the end. It will look like this: www.senobdnalluks.com.

See where it takes you:-)

  • Secunia Research Community

6/30/11

Secunia is a great tool to make sure your computer is up-to-date and secure. I use PSI (Personal Software Inspector) and have found it to be great. It is hard to understand at first, but it really does give you a detailed report. If a program is out-of-date, it will provide you with a solution or installation link. Really does make updating your computer easier. Recommended product.

  • HowStuffWorks

6/27/11

I have found this site to be very educational and a reliable source. In-fact, its probably more trustworthy than Wikipedia as professionals are the ones who edit hotstuffworks.com. So if you have a question about life, health, technology, science, etc. Then this site is worth looking at.

  • FileHippo

6/27/11

FileHippo.com is a fantastic source to get downloads from. All the programs on this site are 100% free and don't contain viruses, malicious software or spam. Don't even have to register! It even comes with a 'FileHippo Update Checker' which will check and inform you when they're updates available.

  • Sandboxie

6/25/11

I could not live without Sandboxie. I recommend this to anyone who uses the internet often. Running your browser in Sandboxie means that all malicious software downloaded by the browser is trapped in the sandbox. As soon as you close down the sandbox, the malicious software is completely gone.

Sandboxie also provides (quoted from site):

- Enhanced Privacy: Browsing history, cookies, and cached temporary files collected while Web browsing stay in the sandbox and don't leak into Windows.

- Secure E-mail: Viruses and other malicious software that might be hiding in your email can't break out of the sandbox and can't infect your real system.

- Windows Stays Lean: Prevent wear-and-tear in Windows by installing software into an isolated sandbox.

  • SKINS

6/23/11

Skins! Skins! Skins! I am absolutely in-love with these! People often ask me why I wear Skins and are puzzled as to how clothing can benefit an athlete. But to be frank, I could have not purchased a better brand. In winter - they keep me warm. In summer, they cool my body down. Skins declined the significant pain I used to endure in my legs.

Even though they may cost a fair amount - they are well worth it. I even contacted the customer service, had a response within a couple hours and he answered my questions well. I will, however, mention two downsides. The logo's on the Skins fall off within a couple months. I also was told that swimming, or getting your Skins wet will reduce the UV protection that the clothing offers. From memory its a 20-30% decrease.

Overall - very satisfied customer.

  • Electronic Frontier Foundation

6/22/11

The Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) is endorsed through many media sources, along with various businesses. The Electronic Frontier Foundation supports and advocates freedom of speech and privacy through the network world. The site states "when our freedoms in the networked world come under attack, the Electronic Frontier Foundation is the first line of defense". I could not say it better - they are the heroes of the internet world.

  • TOSBack

6/21/11

TosBack.org puts some big, well-known websites privacy policies into one central location. Do you want to keep up-to-date with over 50 website policies? Some are, but not limited to Facebook, Amazon, Paypal, eBay and the white house website. It really is a good site. I suggest subscribing to the RSS feeds.

  • DuckDuckGo

6/21/11

I have been trying to find a more private and secure engine to Google Search for some time now. What I find worrying is the fact that Google traces all your moves, logs your computer details, your IP address, you location and so much more! I then came across Google SSL, more secure against outside tracking, but still doesn't stop Google from tracking you.

I then found https://www.ixquick.com, which has a great engine. It comes with SSL and doesn't even log your IP address or your search terms. But then - the problem with Ixquick.com is that it doesn't turn up very relevant search results. Its now about a month later and I have found the best one yet. DuckDuckGo! It supports both HTTP and HTTPS which is good. It also doesn't log your search terms or even your IP address.

I compared Google's search results on my name to DuckDuckGo search results. Funnily enough, I found DuckDuckGo to come up more relevant than Google. I managed to find some old profiles and some press releases that I never thought were published on the net!

This isn't all though. The SSL version located here: https://duckduckgo.com/ has a Firefox addon called "HTTPS Everywhere". Thus, when entering sites like Facebook, Wikipedia, etc that support HTTPS connection, you can click to enter SSL mode. Finally - DuckDuckGo.com also works with the TOR Network. You can run this search engine through their proxy to get ultimate privacy.

  • Friendchecker

6/20/11

This is something the parents on this site might be interested in. There are so many antivirus programs out there to protect yourself from malicious scripts. However - social networking can be a dangerous place for people, especially children. How can parents make sure your child isn't a friend with, or communicating with a registered child sex offender online? Well - FriendChecker.com can search your child's friends list. Even though it won't pick up every registered offender, it will make you feel more at ease.

  • MyHospitals.gov.au

6/19/11

Do you want to know more about your local hospital? Do you want to compare your hospital rating times and other details? Then this is the website for you. Patients can also see, on average, how many people are admitted to the hospital each year.

  • PeerBlock

6/19/11

I have seen a number of reviews on this site over the past few months on various sites. The reviews seemed to be positive so I continued and installed PeerBlock. It does exactly what it says. Even though initially this was used to stop the Government eyes from preying on you when downloading torrents, it now can be used to prevent hackers and stop malicious software being installed on your computer through ads. It will block over 700,000 IP Addresses, which is fantastic! Makes you feel that sense of been secure.

  • Malwarebytes

6/18/11

I have never had a problem with Malwarebytes'. It is fantastic and will run in addition to other antivirus software. Malwarebytes' helps eliminate spyware and malware that often antivirus programs don't pick up. The free version is an on-demand program which means it doesn't provide live protection like Norton and Trend-Micro. In saying this, it won't stop malware from getting onto your computer but will remove it once you scan your computer. On-demand software such as the free versions of Malwarebytes' and SuperAntiSpyware are compatible with live programs such as the ones mentioned above.

  • WCK - White Cyber Knight

6/17/11

I cannot begin to explain how much this site has helped me!
It may be old - and most things are outdated. However - the man who created this site is a genius. His encryption skills are amazing and still benefit many today. He has a program called Ultra High Security Password Generator with between 63 and 64 character passwords. I use his passwords with both Hushmail and TrueCrypt. The passwords are virtually uncrackable.

  • TRUSTe

6/17/11

I hold much respect for TRUSTe. This organisation makes sure that websites who hold their seal provide their customers with a high level of privacy. This means websites who hold this seal can be trusted with your private details (e.g. Email address). It can also be assured that when you download from their website they won't install spyware or malware.
