About Me

This is a blog with my opinions on politics, psychology, and other subjects. My posts are sometimes serious and sometimes snarky. I'm a retired MSW clinical social worker/psychotherapist and mental health center director who was also a cranberry farmer. Scroll archives on bottom of page to see previous blog stories There are new ones added almost every day, although if I don't have anything original to say I try not to say anything at all.

How I Can Help

I was a psychoanalytically oriented psychotherapist for 40 years.I have written numerous articles about the psychopathology of Donald Trump.

Raw Story (sometimes RAWSTORY) is a progressive website. It not only reports on breaking news within minutes from when stories are published elsewhere, but importantly they also provide summaries of the article in addition links to the original. This is especially helpful since they cover news on subscription websites like The New York Times, Washington Post, and Wall Street Journal.

Across the top of the page on the left are trending stories, in the center are stories that editors deem to be the most significant, and on the right breaking news.

Not only that, they cross publish many articles from Salon which is free to read but doesn't have a comments section while Raw Story does. Thus readers are able to comment on Salon stories. The Raw Story Disqus comment section enables readers to use bold, italics, etc. and post illustrations. There are often spirited debates in the comment sections and snarky illustrated posts. An example of these shown below.

Raw Story owns AlterNet and also cross publishes their stories.

Over the past year they have added more columnists such as David Edwards, Travis Getty, Sarah Burris, and Tom Boggioni. They write thought provoking essays. They also recently hired staff reporters who cover Capitol Hill and report on interviews with politicians.

They publish stories from the Agence France-Presse wire service.

You can sign up for a free daily email newsletter.

Raw Story + Exclusives is a subscription part of the website which includes Raw Story Investigates. It costs $49 a year or $79 annually for a version with no ads. I have the former.

I find Kos pales in comparison for aggregating political news article published elsewhere along with excerpts to RawStory. The later recently added original articles. The pluses are that Kos allows anybody to post their own stories, called diaries, and that there's often thought provoking discussing in the comments. The minus is that community posted stories rarely include original material and opinion, in fact they don't even have an opinion section like major newspapers. For my take on why my story got me banned, with the story removed from the site, without any reason sent to me, can be found if you Google my name, Hal Brown, and a keyword like Daily Kos or Trump. That will get you to my blog.

Tip for consumers:
I do not find Daily Kos to be a particularly useful site for political news or opinion. There are better websites to do this with. If you want to post your own material it is the only liberal website I know of where any registered member of what they call their community can do so and potentially get up to 2000 readers and over 200 comments as I did a about a dozen times with my over 1,700 posts there before I was banned without them letting me know why.
