The Gym Group Glasgow Quay
Pros:
- Has the basics
- Friendly staff. Shoutout to Darroch, who is a friend and tries to help me as much as he can in his capacity.
Cons:
- Underfunded and understaffed
- Limited range of equipment
- Broken lockers, poorly maintained machines. But I guess all is fine as long as the £££ keep rolling in.
- I've dealt with 3 different 'managers' and all of them are just 'yes-men'. The only thing they seem to manage is whether the lights are turned on (I'm surprised they even turn them on), and clearly, they have no control over budgets. The fact it needed a formal complaint to get the lift working when I joined says it all really. Any requests for equipment go straight to the hierarchy, who run this as a business and that only.
- Not the most accessible gym for people with physical/hidden disabilities, it says a lot when you see the staff using the disabled access door rather than actual disabled people. Here's an idea, instead of fixing the faulty lift every few months and hoping it never breaks down again, why not invest in a new one? Most people who need the lift to access the gym need constant access, and the issues with access every few months or so aren't worth it. But why bother getting a new lift? After all, the aim is to cut costs and make the most money, with little regard for members. Because that's what a gym is for, right?
Overall, my first and last experience of 'The Gym Group'. Avoid this bog-standard gym like the plague as it is very clear profits take priority over any kind of fitness/health/wellbeing. Better off paying more and going to a proper gym. PureGym Glasgow Shawlands is also no-frills, yet is 10x better. I would've gone there sooner if it wasn't for being new to the area when I unknowingly bought a fixed-term membership at this 'gym'. Can't believe these leeches have the audacity to say 'High-spec gyms that make absolutely everybody feel welcome' when that couldn't be further from the truth.
PS: You know the place is a real dump when fake reviews boost the review score on Trustpilot. Yet even with the boost, it still ranks as 'average'. Even some of the positive reviews on Facebook are from the PTs or managers from their other gyms. Speaks volumes when you have to do that.
