Tom Hess is a master... At marketing. He's a good enough player and probably a pretty good teacher. I only stayed around on his site for two lessons. I felt they were pretty generic. Not that they were bad, I just didn't think they were worth the steep price he puts on them. I just don't feel right paying that much for 3-4 generic exercises and a few motivational speeches. They might get better, but I was a bit hesitant to spend hundreds of dollars before actually getting something profound, if that ever happened. What also irks me a bit are the bold claims in the ad copy that most other guitar instructors are no good.

But what caused me to finally decide leave the course was the amount of politics in his forum. The forum is presented as an essential part of your growth as a musician, and certain political discussions in there made me feel unwelcome. I had some abrasive interactions that made me feel very uncomfortable, so I left. I need to feel comfortable with the people I'm working with, and I just didn't feel that anymore.

Lastly: There's no money back guarantee. No try before you buy.

This is by far the best way I've found to stay motivated to work out. The interface makes logging exercise easy, and also gives me the ability to plan ahead, lay out different exercise programs and even get existing programs by professional trainers. I haven't tried those, personally, but they look good.

It's also a social networking site, so you can get inspiration from a huge community of Fitocrats. There are groups for various interests, much like on Facebook, but most are exercise related.

Highly recommended for anybody who likes to exercise and wants motivation. Or just a fun way to track their workouts.

This is basically a glorified timer. You put the things you want to practice in (through a very confusing interface) and it tells you when you're done. There are plenty of free apps that allow you to do pretty much the same thing. And I found it very lacking for the price.

It's been a while since I last used this site, and I know they've added a whole bunch of stuff since, but I absolutely loved it. It's basically a kind of a mix between an exercise app, a game and a radio play. It makes running a lot of fun. The story is entertaining, if slightly cheesy. Nothing too offputting. I like that you can listen to your own playlists in between.

I only wish they had something for cycling, now that I'm not running so much anymore.

Highly recommended for runners. I know they also have a beginner's app now, to reach your first 5K. Sounds pretty good.
