Some complain because they don't know the first thing about software development and ask something stupid like "how do I write a website"? This is not a place for people who need handholding- it is for professionals. If you know what you're doing and want to ask a technical question (how do you do X with Y technology)- people here are eager to help. That said, it is all user-contributed, so don't expect a prompt reply. It's best when you search and find your question has already been asked and answered.

All the benefits of shopping Amazon, but Amazon contributes some of their profits to a non-profit cause of your choice. It may be just nickles and dimes, but the non-profit appreciates it, and it costs you nothing.

After being referred to CloudForge by VisualStudio as a source for free Subversion hosting, and finding out that they now only offer free trials, I was wondering if I could find a really free alternative, and I came across I was able to get up and running quickly and easily, and it's free (at least until my startup gets bigger).

This site is terrific for finding ideas for mountains to climb as well as good intel on how to get there. The best part is that it allows you to create an account for free and keep track of what summits you have visited. You can keep track of whatever details you like- from as little as just that you did it, to adding date, distance, time, elevation gain, even a personal trip report. As you record more and more peaks, the site automatically shows you various lists you are progressing on.

It used to be a pretty good site, but pointless redesigns which reduce important functionality, while making other functionality harder to find and use has made this site ripe for a competitor to replace them. Now if a competitor would just appear...

Well since no one else did, I just built and released a competitor- We pride ourselves on our 20/20 vision- being 20% better for 20% less money. Of course, we'll probably need to change the first number as we continue to turn out improvements and they continue to sit on their hands. Probably our biggest improvement is that we will be listening to our users!
