I am responsible for my aunt's care. I have 3 siblings but none of us has the time, the expertise and we dont actually agree what would be best for her.
We hired Patient Advocates Australia. They advised about "in home" support and designed and monitired a care plan for 31 months. Every month either Dorothy or Kay visited Aunty at home, spoke with the carer, the GP or whoever and sent us all a report. They went to all doctors appointments. It was so good. Then they recommended she look at a residential care facility before she got to old to adapt to the new setting. Dorothy shortlisted the possible places and helped us decide. Aunty has been there 5 months, loves it and seems healthier than ever. PAA visits every month, reviews the care plan with the staff, takes all the calls from the staff about care issues and sends us and the GP report. We just do family things and we never disagree!
It costs us $100-200/month and is such a bargain.
