I buy and consign frequently on The Real Real and have done so for three years. I purchase two to five times a month and have consigned over 150 items.
MY ADVICE FOR BUYERS:
Know your measurements! Sizes are less important when shopping across designer lines and most measurements given are fairly accurate. Know your measurements for your waist, hips, bust and the breadth of your shoulders.
Never buy anything that is less than VERY GOOD condition.
Look for jeans and pants... these are usually sold at a huge discount.
Create feeds and check them regularly.
Do your research and compare and contrast. If you can find photos elsewhere on the web of an item or learn additional sizing information, do so.
MY ADVICE FOR SELLERS:
If you ever plan to consign, always keep your tags and receipts and dust bags. Items sell at a higher price when tags are included.
Try not to get your feelings hurt if they reject an item.
THE GOOD:
Vast selection. Speedy shipping available. Most items are returnable. If you learn how to navigate TRR, you can acquire a killer wardrobe at less than half the price.
THE BAD:
High demand items are priced comparable to new retail prices.
Overnight shipping reaches me only about 60% of the time. It often takes longer.
Customer service is not great. I have waited 30 minutes or more and finally hung up.
Sometimes TRR loses an item after you purchase it. It has happened to me on four occasions, including this particular order.
Good luck;-)
