Several months back we received literature in the mail from Consumers Energy…offering a special price on coverage for major appliances. My spouse & I read the plan. ASP. And decided to sign up for one year for our furnace & a/c…all other appliances had been updated in last few years ( note: be aware of automatic renewal). Two months into the program we experienced a furnace issue. Contacted Consumers…they scheduled a Contractor…they didn't like his diagnosis…sent out a second Contractor. The part we needed was discontinued…Contractor said he would try & fabricate the part. But I needed to sign a liability waiver. Which I did. It was 58-62 degrees in house. I called Consumers…they said would no longer service furnace due to " pre existing condition " but, I was bound by the contract…even if I replaced the furnace! I asked to speak with a Supervisor." none available " Made another call the following day " none available " Requested a call back. Did not receive. Call three Heating & Cooling Contractors re furnace replacement. " Two to four weeks out " House was cold, spouse very upset worried about pipes freezing. Called Consumers one last time. " Someone from our Field Survey team will contact you in three to five days ". Located a H&C company. Had new furnace installed. Contacted Michigan Attorney General with complaint…Breach of Contract. Consumers contacted me." we did nothing wrong " received a letter stating " your Appliance Service Plan has been cancelled ". That was mid Feb 2022. As of mid March. Not cancelled. Still being billed! It's not just the Nigerian Scammers you must worry about. It's Monsanto. Pushing Roundup. It's Big Pharma in bed with Medicare. Gouging Seniors on fixed incomes. Many with a choice of medications or food! And it's the infomercials pushing…" get your free sample by texting ……" and once you pay the $4.95 S&H…. You have from 7 to 30 days to cancel your automatic subscription to a monthly delivery of forty to ninety dollars! Try cancelling that! Take a few moments and read the multitude. A few hours. Of complaints filed against Consumers Energy for deceit & outright dishonesty related to their Appliance Service Plan. No integrity, no empathy. Cold hearted dishonesty. EBS Metamora MI *******.
