Nothing better than The Wall Street Journal free on your Blackberry - I used to spend all my time writing emails on my Blackberry. Now I spend all my time reading the Wall Street Journal. This free application allow you to read the full text of all WSJ articles on your handheld. It's great. It's fast and has great customer service (mine was broken, they fixed it within 24 hours). The only negative is that you cannot email yourself or anyone else full text articles.

  • Maria Bartiromo

Maria Bartiromo is without insight and so is her book - Maria Bartiromo, CNBC's "money honey," hosts several popular shows on the stock-market watching network. She's entertaining to watch, she asks tough questions, but at the end of the day she lacks any real insight. This came through in her book, and this comes through whenever she is interviewed. It sounds mean, but I wish people would stop asking her what she thinks...

Jeremy Grantham with more sage advice on markets - No one did a more articulate job predicting this financial crisis than Jeremy Gratham. He's a king among men and perhaps the world's best financial commentator.

His new interview on the financial crisis and why stocks are probably still not cheap should be read by all investors:

  • The Wall Street Journal

The new Wall Street Journal site design is horrible - Call me old fashion, but I do not like the new Wall Street Journal website design. I can't skim the headlines in a single column like I used to...

  • DooStang

Good job site for 20-35 yr olds looking for finance, marketing jobs - The Doostand job board is a great place for 20 and 30 somethings looking for high-end positions in private equity, hedge funds, i-banking, consulting, or marketing.

Reliable conference call service - Good quality and reliable service for conference calls. I'm not sure how the prices stack up with competitors, but there are no monthly fees--you just pay per minute per caller.

  • Aman Resorts

4/21/08

The nicest resort hotels in the world - Aman resorts provide guests with a unique experience, in which every bit of your stay feels steeped in luxury. Zagat rated Aman as the number one brand of hotels in the world in 2007 for good reason. But do not be deceived, every bit of the luxury you are looking for is built into the price. Expect to spend at least at $1000 a day at most locations. However, if you have the money, Aman is worth it.

Wealth of investment and business insight - Beginning and experienced investors alike can learn from Warren Buffett's wisdom in his annual letters to shareholders: http://www.berkshirehathaway.com/letters/letters.html

And also his Owner's manual: http://www.berkshirehathaway.com/ownman.pdf

You can watch a number of interviews with Buffett on charlierose.com -- http://www.charlierose.com/search?q=warren+buffett&searchTopic=-1&searchFromMonth=-1&searchFromDay=-1&searchFromYear=-1&searchToMonth=-1&searchToDay=-1&searchToYear=-1&searchFilter=warren+buffett&searchType=guest

Good Finance Blog search engine (better than normal Google) - This works much better than Google for finding posts in financial blogs and is great for doing stock research.

  • Panjiva

Research on overseas suppliers - Having previously suffered through the challenges of sourcing contract manufacturing in China, I've been looking for a tool like Panjiva to help me research overseas suppliers.

The service certifies companies based on past performance along criteria such as customer loyalty, experience, management quality, and environmental responsibility. Panjiva hasn't been around very long (2006) but they have been working with Elie Tahari, a well-run high-end fashion company, which gives me some faith in the quality of their data. Also, the company was founded by a solid team from Harvard and MIT. If you're looking for a supplier in the apparel space, it's probably worth the fee.

Best tech blog by a VC - Fred Wilson, a general partner at Union Square Ventures in New York, presents a forthright look at VC investing in the tech industry. Fred isn't brilliant, but there's not a lot of bull$#*!, and he's a decently interesting fellow. He posts on tech companies, the VC industry, music, and other random things of interest to him. Definitely worth reading if you interested in technology or the venture industry.

  • TheStreet

Horrible ads on thestreet.com - They underline words in the text of their articles such that it seems like the site is providing you with additional useful information. But instead, the underlined links in the article are simply advertisements. Poor form--the website is tricking me into helping them make money and not providing me any value in return.

  • Attentionmeter

Great web traffic measurement mash up - This very cool site allows you to compare a website's traffic on Compete, Alexa, Quantcast, and Technorati. This is particularly useful as none of these services on their own is especially accurate.

  • Greg Mankiw's Blog

11/27/07

The best economics policy blog - Greg Mankiw is a bit conservative, but he is a great economist and a brilliant thinker. His blog is a great combination of reasonably objective analysis combined with a great summary of important economic happenings and papers. This is a must read if you care about the economy.

Forum Rankings - Useful list of the world's largest forums, sortable by topic, size, activity, and type of software. Who knew Gaia Online was the biggest forum in the world?

  • Intrade

Bet on anything! - Politics, current events, weather -- you name it and you can bet on it at Intrade. And for those who are not the wagering type, you can use Intrade as a sort of meta-poll to get a feel for opinion on a variety of events and issues.

Liza Minnelli is so scary - Did anyone see her in Arrested Development? She was frightening. And here she is frightening again--this time without pants.

  • Kaiser Permanente

6/26/07

Good, cheap healthcare - Kaiser has gotten a lot of bad press over the years, but they offer good, cheap health insurance. They have high deductible monthly plans starting at $80 a month for an individual. Although they emphasize efficiency, they doctors are not that bad and do care about their patients. Kaiser is probably best for young, healthy people and lower income families. But net net, good value healthcare can be had by all.

  • Dealbook.blogs.nytimes

6/13/07

Dealbook is a good financial blog - Dealbook is a good way to get all the day's financial news in one email. Andrew Ross Sorkin has done well for himself.

  • Yahoo Finance

6/13/07

Yahoo Finance, get better please - I like Yahoo Finance. I've been using it since the late 90s. But honestly, it hasn't gotten much better. No innovations, no cool new features or analytics. Still the same junky, simple interface. Terry Semel, for $100M a year you think you could work on improving this product offering? Does anyone know of any better, free portfolio management tools out there?
