My wife just got charged the monthly membership starting February. She doesn't know the service. Has never used it. Never ever looked for the app in the play store (History proves that) and we had never logged in from any browser. On top of that there's not a single email from them (First one I've received it's the password reset, because OBVIOUSLY we didn't know the password.
What I DID found is a mail from Slideshare August last year announcing Scribd bought it from LinkedIn.
This bit is in that email: "As of that date, Scribd will manage your SlideShare account and any content you may have on SlideShare, and Scribd's General Terms of Use and Privacy Policy will apply. If you wish to opt out, please close your SlideShare account."
I'm moderately suspicious this is illegal, and I'll absolutely contact the corresponding authorities in my country.
Thank you for informing us! Please know, we cannot charge anyone who does not already have an active account. This means there must be an account somewhere in our system causing your wife's charges. That said, please do not worry! We have a team of experts who can absolutely help you out with this.
