My daughter (18 yrs) and her 4 friends used uber last Friday evening, once leaving the cab, her friend realized she left her bag in the car, she is asthmatic and left the pump in her bag, my daughter called the driver to return the bag. The driver said he would only return the bag if they paid him £40. He gave my daughter his personal cell number so he could communicate with her via a private channel, my daughter refused to pay him and so he held the bag at ransom for up to 2 hours leaving the 5 young girls on the streets of London till around 3am, he returned and parked the car on the curb with his windows closed and in front of them he went through her purse looking for the cash, he took the money, opened the window slightly and threw her bag out the window and drove off.
He must have reported the incident to Uber shortly after and so my daughter's account was immediately blocked.
We did contact Uber and reported the incident and it took them 3 days to come back to us.
Im my shock horror uber told my daughter they will look into this and that they will continue to monitor her account for similar incidents she may cause an in the future may block her account permanently.
We feel this is an extremely serious incident and that uber have done nothing to take drivers like this off the streets. Shame on you Uber and this is not going to be the end.
