The only club is what they use on you when you sign up. I signed up because they claimed that they had great prices. You can't see the prices till you sign up. I can get movies cheaper at Best Buy or Amazon.com for the things that Best Buy doesn't carry. Their web site is not easy to use (I am an IT professional, so if I can't figure it out, it is not going to be easy for others - no offense). Most of the time I could "login" to tell it no to the Director's Selection, however I was not allowed to order what I wanted. The site was either down, so slow that it timed out, or told me my Username and or Password (which I just used to log in to say no to Director's Selection or to change my address, Credit Card number, etc.) was incorrect.
Forget trying to get someone on the phone, they even got rid of their India phone center so you can't order by phone. When the contract comes to an end, you are conveniently charged another $78 for any outstanding selections you have not purchased. You are then sometime in the next year provided with a limited selection of movies that they are trying to clear out of their warehouse. I filled out 3 that are currently worth $20 total almost 3 months ago and still have not received them.
Since the charge was over 60 days ago, I can't even dispute it on my Credit Card. Some scam they have going there.
Save your money, go to Best Buy, Amazon, Blockbuster, even Wal-mart (yes, I am one of those that KNOWS Sam Walden is spinning in his grave over the 80% market share his kids gave to China).
**** Update 14 Nov 2009 ***
I finally found a number to call columbiahouse... I explained calmly to the rep (no I did not yell, she said later that she expected it when I asked for a supervisor and no I did not yell at the supervisor either) what had happened. While they apologized, they said that I have to wait till 2 Dec 2009 for the next attempt to deliver movies I paid for back on 27 Mar 2009... the supervisor explained that the web, warehouse, email and customer service systems are not tied together... does anyone else see a problem with this? No offer was made to compensate for any of the issues caused to date. I canceled my membership with them now that my obligation was complete. There were platitudes given, hollow at best. I explained that I have been more than patient since I was never able to order anything off their website. My advice, no matter how good the initial offer is, you will pay for it in the end. The supervisor I spoke to me told me how their club is a deal - when you are doing multiple orders all at once - Then it is a deal. You pay the same as you would at Best Buy on the first one you order, then get 40% off each one after that, so unless you save up for movies (not me) then this really is not for you.
