I am not an internet novice, so when i try to ask for help with a website i try to be clear and concise. Seems like the new business formula for websites is to build a "middleman" website. The links lead back to someone else's product which the people half the time do not know if they have in stock or not. This particular site I engaged the live chat help only to be told they do not have a clue why the "vin#" check wasnt working for me... and they proceeded to direct me to send an email which would be replied to in 24 hours... thats today's world of instant communication/wiretransfers... one has to wait 24 hrs just to get a yes or no answer. Next i called their 1800 phone number only to talk to incompetent people who kept referring me back to the website. Enough is enough. Ebay started this practice and it's shameful how everyone seems to have adapted it.

Wrote a review on this mega market from a seller's perspective (Dealing with company policy & how to get your feet wet). Nonetheless reading similar reviews i came across many 1 star reviews and reading it, i realize a seller's nightmare. Mostly people were upset because they do not read. Ebay usually offers several of the same item from diverse sellers. It is a marketplace that is very rigorous for sellers to pass. So when consumers are not even willing to choose carefully then blame the seller is bluntly stated pretty lame. With that out of the way, if you research your item and research your seller you will see clear pattern of someone you want to or not want to deal with. Just like in "real life" when you walk in a store and the "vibe" you get is similar to the sellers feedback on ebay or how their inventory appears... SO as a shopper, take your time. Watch items, research how much they sold for and if you are patient you will find hard to find items for fraction of the cost of retail. Remember ebay sellers want you to have a good experience because their status depends on it :) So overall ebay is a pretty safe marketplace to do business on and even if there is a small hickup that usually can be worked out with the sellers before ebay has to step in. Have fun. Join the future. Big box stores will be a thing of the past before we know it. Last but not least i have purchased hundred items on ebay over last decade and 99% accuracy/great condition. Just gotta read a little. :)

We Know that Ebay is not Quite fair towards Sellers Anymore. I been participating / watching ebay for over a decade and a half. At first just watched the phenomena of being able to sell anything from home. So i tried my luck at it with some Katchina dolls i scored when this spoiled rich lady was moving towns. My luck scored my Ebay starter Kit. Then as I Progressed i realized it's not easy and it's quite competitive. Of course i was not aware of drop shipping and all the various routines people can run on ebay to make $, but keep their hands clean of work. SO Unaware of those option (not like i'd pursue them) i set out to sell anything i found in estate & yard sales Etc. of Course as everything evolves so was the marketplace and Ebay's constantly changing policies. That's one of my biggest pet peeves against ebay how they constantly keep "improving" the platform... and now it has evolved to the point where sellers cannot leave a negative feedback for any buyer rather they can report a buyer, the vice versa is not so true. If one being a seller gets a negative feedback depending on the buyers "mood" having nothing to do with service or quality of the item. But then again that's 1 out of several hundred transactions. IF you do Decide to Become A seller This is What i'd Advise: start casually. Ebay gives you 50 free auctions a month. Thats quite plenty. Make yourself a neat template in Open Office of Word. Learn to do live listings so you are comfortable with the platform. No matter how much i hurry to do a good listing takes at least 20 minutes ** researching the item *** taking optimal photos showcasing strengths and weaknesses *** measure weight and dimension ** write a few specific words about the item *** thats all is necessary to do a great listing. Make sure you opt into global shipping. For Domestic Shipping since Ebay is very competitive I list With free shipping meaning price included. So consider all that when researching price. In the listing it shows i Provide free Priority shipping, but when it comes to actual shipping if it goes to a major urban center and it is under 13oz it will go out as first class to save a bit of $... if it's rural or it's over 13 oz then it has to go in a bubble padded priority envelope (x2.3,4) i have shipped christmas brandy glasses wrapped 4 times in bubble wrap and they made it 2000k intact! So yes. The most important part of the sale. Make sure you pack secure! Extra extras secure and keep the weights within range to keep shipping cost low. Super important in e commerce. Also if you can pass that on to your customer you have the edge over people that charge an extra 5-8$ in shipping for same item. So. As much as we do not like Ebay. They are still very relevant. I ship items across the world with the global shipping program so the headache of international shipping is not on me. Ebay is still top dog for items and traffic of all auction sites even though 2/3 op the inventory is fixed priced items. Hope this is helpful to someone out there.

If you live in the modern world you do know everything is business. Business has to charge you so much because they have a huge overhead. What if there was a site that connected the "consumer" with individuals (companies) providing legitimate services at 75-99% off. That's right. A huge savings over the "real world" you may ask what's the catch? Well just like any treasure-hunt you have to glean the site and do your due diligence in order to find those quality individuals that will explicitly help you. I have tried spreading the word to friends. But some people just don't get the value thats inherent in this new platform for a new century. In my opinion you can get scammed for $5 or you can score 100's to 1000's of $ value services for $5-$10... which will happen it's totally up to you. I figured more people should know about this site because it is a model for the new world of how we work and get things done. Please take five minutes of your day or week and check it out. BTw i am not affiliated in any way with the site just fyi.

You might have read my earlier review of listia. I still stand by my earlier statements that the site offers tremendous potential for peer to peer barter society if you will... except for you pay the shipping on an item as it goes out not when you purchase. For example i get rid of rock fragments, games, dvds and save my credits to get other items that i can a). Put in my personal collection, b). Gift to someone in need c). Acquire items for sale in the real world/ebay to offset the shipping charges i pay. Rather quite simple.

Also this is Utmost IMPORTANT FOR EVERYONE TO KNOW. The credit value fluctuates and most people perceive credits as 1000/$1. When i joined listia march of 2013 that was the general misconception. But quickly analyzing what the amazon/walmart/ebay gift cards were going for (dumb people's way of cashing out) & what listia gave you in credits with largest buy in. I quickly arrived that credits were truly worth about 700/$1... now two years later because of increased popularity of the site the real value of credits is closer to 1825/$1. Yet most people operate under the false assumption that it is a static 1000/$1

On the other end listia will always tell you that there is no monetary value on a credit because it is a virtual marketplace and everyone considers credits differently... yet they will sell you credits no problem... So it takes a bit of common sense and an effort to read instead of browse... and listia can work for you getting rid of "trash" and acquiring "treasures"

Now to the dirty stuff... there is a good portion of listians that offer obviously false items, and when you call them on it, they quickly block you and your comments. I am still pretty pissed about that practice and wish there was a subdivision that could be excluded. Yes you want to ban rude obnoxious tirekickers. But when people want to learn about the authenticity of an item and their comments get hid and they are blocked is an inherent fault of listia. (no harm no foul walk the other way there are over 1 million users.)

I applied to be a moderator to help the site and i was told it is on a totally voluntary basis with 0 compensation. I thought that was rather ugly as how can you get a good team of volunteer helpers if you give them nothing in return... so that's why some of the mods seem $#*!ed... (just kidding) i know listia makes their $ from advertising. So they could give credits to their mods but they do not. I know after five years there are still growing pains as the "perks" 3-5 never materialized yet. It does feel like an operation two buddies are running out of a basement. And i wish they would consider propping it to the next step with a professional team that is open for improvement.

Last but not least about 6-8 months ago... it seems there was a sudden influx of off shore and drop shipment ads. I thought that is against listia policy. We do not want people who do nothing trying to make $ on there as listia still allows the option for people to charge for shipping. If you truly wanted to make it a place of no fraud... take out the domestic payment option... should be all free. Only international shipping should be charged for.

Tip for consumers:
Be patient, first 20 auctions should be items you are willing to throw in the trash. get verified. get linked in. comment on other's auctions. make friends. read and research whatever you might "buy" you are on the net afterall. using a home pc is much better than a phone or tablet...
