  • Storenvy

Title says it all. It's similar to ebay. The quality of service you get dramatically depends on the seller you buy from. Make sure to purchase through paypal so your purchase is protected (in case you never receive your order). I've now ordered from storenvy 3 separate times and I had two good experiences and one just okay (seller took 3 weeks to send it out). Be careful, read the ratings, and hope for the best, but definitely protect your money and use paypal when purchasing.

  • YummyBazaar

I love trying out foods that I cannot get in the US (or are at least very difficult to find where I live in the US). I have ordered from yummybazaar once so far.

Pros:
- Large selection of foreign foods
- $5.95 flat rate shipping (free if over $69)
- Delivered quite quickly
- sometimes they'll give you a free thank you gift

Cons:
- None I know of

Conclusion: I liked it. Will probably buy from again.

  • Facebook

Facebook sells your personal information to companies to aide with targeted advertising. The company as a whole is pretty terrible in terms of ethics, but if you're not concerned about that, there's reasons to still dislike it. It's basically all old people reposting misinformation and old memes. It's a place for boomers to post pics of their grandkids (which is fine!). But Facebook is overall a pretty toxic place filled with (actually) fake news, people changing their profile pictures to whatever the current social justice trend is, and lots and lots of ads. You can probably find a better way to spend your time. Even if it's sleeping.

The website is in need of an update.

Suggestions:
- Make it so the page doesn't refresh every time you change the location in the Search page
- Add sexuality (gay, bisexual, straight but curious, trans, etc.) as a profile feature and Search criteria
- Add a check off box for "Members with FACE pictures only"
- Fix picture uploader so when a picture is uploaded it isn't turned sideways
- Under My Account > General, make it so that when you change your home location it doesn't show you're X hundreds or thousands of miles away in your new city (e.g. - I could live in LA, and move to NYC, then when I change my home location to NYC, other guys in NYC see my profile, but then click on it to see it say 3000 miles away when I might only be 5 miles in real life).
- Remove obviously fake profiles
- Remove duplicate profiles
- Remove ancient profiles that have not logged on in a long time (maybe over a year)
- Change the Alert Sound for messages to something less jarring/harsh
- Add a search bar function to the Mailbox so you can find certain messages or messages from certain users easily
- Make the Member Search 3 characters instead of 4.
- Hire more programmers who specialize in UI/UX

  • Instagram

3/2/17

Suggestions:
- Allow to refine search by newest, popular, most comments, most followed users by genre (singers, actors, politicians, etc).
- Allow to refine search to search for just photos or just videos
- Allow to refine search of videos by a certain length of time (e.g. At least 30 seconds)
- Allow multiple subject searches and ability to refine search criteria (e.g. - you can type in two subjects in search, then refine by stuff like only posts with both subjects, only posts with one subject but do not include any with the other,
- Add these same features and the features already on the app to the website version (you can't even upload a photo by the website version)

  • Amazon

6/30/20

I've had generally good experiences with Amazon. Their company practices when it comes to workers' rights, working conditions, and workers' compensation, are all abysmal, but the modern world is based on consumerism, and Amazon makes consuming easier than it has ever been. I'll continue using Amazon just like most others will.

I've relied on this site in middle school, high school, and college, and now I just use it for general information gathering. I hope it will always be around.

  • CreamiiCandy

3/2/17

They have a good selection of squishies. Prices are about average I'd say. If you're not in Australia the shipping time is long, but that would be true of most places (note: I'm int the United States). I got the Puni Maru Jumbo White Pineberry with a pink dip which I liked a lot and am happy I bought. I also ordered two JDream shell squeeze toys. I requested the pink and the purple but they ended up sending me the red and the purple.

  • Deliteful Boutique

3/2/17

Their prices are cheaper than other Squishy online stores, but they come defected. All sales are final, so returns aren't allowed. You cannot leave bad reviews on their site as all reviews must be approved by them in order to show up. From their website FAQ section:
Returns
"All orders are finalized, therefore we do not accept any returns. In any rare cases where a buyer would like to return any goods. You will be responsible for postage costs of returning the item. We recommend using registered mail to return items incase of lost or stolen goods."
Defected Squishies
"Defected squishies are very common, we are not responsible for any defects as the squishies are received the way they are from suppliers. Issues such as tiny air bubbles, or small defects are not compliant with our terms for any refunds. We would state on the products page if there are any visible defects such as big tears, rips or any other obvious faults. Please refer to our terms and conditions on our refund policy."

Tip for consumers:
Pay more and get your squishies from a better squishy store.

  • Darksky.net

7/1/20

I use the darksky website everyday. It's by far the most accurate information about weather (much more so than accuweather and weather.com anyway). It's accurate down to within a few minutes. It's very impressive. I understand why Apple bought them. Highly recommend.

  • Reddit

3/3/17

Reddit has definitely been on a downward trend since about 2011. I am still a daily user because I only really go on the subreddits whose content I know that I like. I think Reddit can still be a great site if you avoid certain subreddits like the plague (especially religious/areligious, political, and ones infamous for $#*!posting).

I've ordered my Melanie Martinez Crybaby perfume milk which was a website exclusive item. When she has released an album I'm sure she will put more merchandise and other creative content on it, but while she doesn't it's just a site that she owns that doesn't have any working links really. I can't wait for her next album.

Tip for consumers:
Melanie Martinez fans, crybabies (pet name for her fans), pop music fans

  • Apple

6/26/22

I have bought my Airtags, iphone 12 Pro Max, Magic Keyboard, and Magic Mouse 2 all directly from the Apple website (and picked them up in-store). The website's UI is super simple and well organized, which makes the online shopping experience so much better. The prices are extremely high, but in my opinion, you get what you pay for. I am now on my second Macbook (no longer stored in orders on the site because I bought it back in 2019). My first lasted 8 years and I'm hoping to have my second one for just as long if not longer. Every other laptop brand I've had (HP, Dell, Lenovo, and IBM) just isn't up to par and always, ALWAYS has problems. It's worth paying the higher prices to not have to deal with the headaches. Plus, even if your warranty runs out, if you go to an Apple store, they still try to help you with whatever your product is, no matter how old it is. Now that is high quality customer service.

Tip for consumers:
People into tech, Apple fans

Products used:
Laptop Computers: Macbook Pro 2011 13", Macbook Pro 2019 15"
Mobile Phones: iPhone 4, iPhone 6+, iPhone 12 Pro Max
Headphones: 2nd Generation Airpods, Apple headphones (wired)
iPods: iPod Touch
Other: Magic Keyboard, Magic Mouse 2,

  • Glassdoor

6/26/22

I use Glassdoor a lot. I recognize it has its faults. For example, a lot of companies with bad reviews force their employees to give the company 5 star reviews and, in the review itself, put that there are no cons to working there. It's awful that it's such a prevalent practice, but that is not the fault of Glassdoor. I still think that, in general, it is an extremely useful job hunting tool. That's how it should be viewed at least: as a tool. It shouldn't be the single deciding factor for accepting/declining a job offer.

You as a consumer need to be able to spot fake reviews. A dead giveaway is saying that a place has no cons. There is no such thing as a perfect workplace where everybody is happy and employees get everything they want. Also, the lack of details (e.g. Nothing mentioned about salaries, benefits, managerial styles, etc).

Attached is a photo of what an unreliable review looks like. Even if authentic, it doesn't actually say anything about what it's like to work at the company they posted for.

I sweat an abnormal amount (even just sitting still and not doing anything stressful). Certain Dri has been the best one I've found so far that actually helps me not end up with giant sweat stains in my armpits on my shirts. I use it after I get out of the shower and dry off.

I use the Everyday Strength (20% aluminum zirconium) one. It has a clean laundry type of scent. I have used the Extra Strength (25%) version in the past and while it worked better, it had an awful smell. Kind of like a sour baby powder smell. When they change that smell for the Extra Strength I will definitely give 5 Stars (and start buying the Extra Strength one instead).

I have never used the Prescription Strength version because it comes in roll-on and dry spray forms. Not sure why though.

Tip for consumers:
People who are experiencing hyperhidrosis / are heavy sweaters.

  • Mercari

7/1/20

I haven't had any bad experiences with Mercari. I just wish the standard search engine results were only for items for sale, and then you have the option to include sold items (I'm not sure why you would want that as the default).

  • Discontinuedbeautyproducts2

They don't send you what you ordered. Customer service is impossible to get in contact with. Items not as described. SCAM. Full stop.

  • YouTube

3/25/17

Love that there's basically an endless amount of content to go through. That I can find videos on some of the most obscure topics (which is thanks to the users, not the site itself). I'm not pleased with the amount of censoring that is happening, as it keeps going up.

  • MyAnimeList

3/25/17

I use this site to keep track of the animes I watched, and want to watch. Also to look up an anime by genre/themes. If you're using it for basic purposes like that, it's a great site. I do not get involved with the community though (forum discussions, reviews, etc.). So I can't comment on that aspect of the site.

  • Starbucks

3/2/17

Dedicated Starbucks addict here, but just like the quality of your drink can different depending on the barista that makes it, your quality of service when it comes to any issue that customer service helps you with can differ. You will always get a response within 24 hours, which is very nice, and generally you get the help you desired, which is even nicer.
