  • Stauer

11/14/13

Bought two wathces from Stauer. Both quit working soon. Took one to a Watch Repair shop. The repairman is a master craftsman who could not get the parts for repair because the watch is Chinese made. The web site looks great, but they sell a cheap product for several times more that it's worth. If you do decide to buy from Stauer, buy the insurance package with your watch. At least, if you do have to return it, at your own expense, they will replace the watch.

  • EverQuote

4/5/18

EverQuote advertises on-line that once you enter your automobile insurance and personal information, you will never have to do it again and they will transmit all your info to automobile insurance companies that will contact you with lower automobile insurance rates. That is a lie. I have had to repeat over and over again all my info to various companies and finally gave up. And, after checking them out on the Better Business Bureau web site, I see that they answer all their complaints with double speak. Never addressing the issue of false advertising. I did file a complaint with the BBB.

Tip for consumers:
Call individual companies yourself or go to their website. EveryQuote is just making money on your time sending your contact information to other reputable companies.

  • Hirt's Gardens

9/6/14

I purchased 10 rainbow trees, Eucalyptus Deglupta. When I received them, I noticed that two were distinctly different from the other 8. I planted them in the ground anyway. The two were different, and going back thru Amazon, I brought this to Amazon's and Hirt's attention. I recd an email back from Amazon that said Hirt's was sure I had the right trees, that they all look different as saplings. The two trees in dispute are fat, round leaves compared to the slender leaves of the Rainbow Tree. I wrote back and said that you really had to be stupid to confuse the two. Finally, i got a response back from Hirt's that they were refunding the money on two trees. I never asked for a refund or replacement. But I am glad that Hirt's did the right thing. (Added note 2 months later: Hirt's never did refund my money. They sent me an e-mail asking that I send them the original e-mails between me, Amazon and Hirt's. I figured that if they were going to play the paper work game, I'd just let it drop. Even more disappointed than before with Hirt's.) (2nd Added Note 10 Feb 2016: I recently saw on a plant lookup website that Hirts was closed. Dont know if this is true, but can believe it with their lousy service and unhealthy plants.)

  • MiniInTheBox

9/6/14

Bought 13 watches from MiniInThe Box. All were very well priced. The order was sent in two shipments. The second shipment took more than a month, although MiniInTheBox has a week turnaround policy. I had to email them about that. Then one watch never worked. Although they do not have a number you can call, you have to submit a claim to them. They were very cool and told me to not bother returning the broken watch and that they were refunding the money on that watch. It was back on my credit card in 3 days! Not only do I LOVE miniinthe box.com, i would recommend them to anyone!
I am adding this statement much later: Many people write into Site Jabber asking about their order. You have to go to the seller's web site. Site Jabber has no connection with MiniInTheBox. There is a process defined on the web site for complaints, inquiries and comments. Use the sellers web site properly and you will get an answer. It's cumbersome, but it works.

Tip for consumers:
Be patient. It's well worth the wait. A great company to deal with.

  • New Garden Plants

12/16/17

I ordered 28 plants from New Garden Plants in Hudsonville MI on the 8th of December and received the plants on the 15th of December. After spending a day on the web trying to find a vendor that would ship immediately and not wait til Spring, I was ecstatic. I received the plants today. NOT ONE PLANT WAS LABELED! I have 28 pots of plants and have no idea which is which. I tried to call and got a recording that tells me to send "Pete" an email. Which I did. I buy a lot of plants and am experienced in using dot-com companies for plants. I do not recommend anyone buy from this site. It is irresponsible to not mark the plants and not have a telephone number I can speak to a live human at. Shame on you New Garden Plants nursery and shame on you "Pete".

Added Comments: After unwrapping the first 11 plants, the rest had labels on them. So I was able to discern what 11 of those unidentified plants are. The 12th plant was a freebie. The label was stuck down in the pot. I'm still not happy with that kind of mistake. I'm not sure I'll use New Garden Plants again. I still have to get over my homicidal anger!

Tip for consumers:
If you order more than one type of plant, you will have trouble discerning which plant is which.

Recently went on the web-site to order shoes. More than 50% of the shoes are no larger than size 10. I ordered 8 pairs of shoes. The company broke my order into 3 parts and charged my debit card in two charges. I saw no where on the web-site that I would pay an international charge card fee. At check out, I opted to not use Pay-Pal and submitted my order. It came back later, refused and refunded. The charge card fee was not refunded. Apparently one must use Pay-Pal or you cant order. My funds were refunded immediately. Nice site, but was also unaware it is a Chinese site and, if I understand it correctly, shoes are shipped from different locations in China. I would not recommend anyone buying from this company. There are too many American companies that do a better job and are more web friendly.

  • Grindr

2/22/21

I have never used a gay dating site. I am 66 years old and just broke up with my partner. I joined Grindr because I knew my partner had used the site. Boy, was I naive. Most of the participants wanted to meet at my place only. Sounds like a great way to look over my residence for future burglary! And some participants sounded like trash. Maybe I'm living in the past, but with all the other comments I've read from other reviewers, it sounds like Grindr is a trap and a snare.

Tip for consumers:
Don't. Pure garbage filled with deceit, lies and hidden agendas.

I ordered a ChopBox smart cutting board on February 1st and when I went to track it from the carrier, that carrier said no such shipment existed. I then contacted Mr. Brown with ChopBox who said they had told me the wrong carrier and gave the correct carrier. I then logged in with that carrier and they indicated movement in the shipment. I just went on line again to check on the shipment and am told it was delivered in New York City. I live in Seminole, Fl.! I just sent two emails to Mr. Brown asking when they would correct this and get my ChopBox smart cutting board to me. It was a birthday gift that was 2 weeks ago! Additionally, on their web site it indicates there is 24 hour support. There is not! Nowhere is there a telephone number to contact. Everything has to be done by email. Poor performance from this company. I will not be buying from them again. Update: 13 Mach 2020. I did a little checking on Chop Box. They have a web site they created to look as if it's a separate company selling the ChopBox. No telephone number to call! And one other company is selling the Chopping Board, but is "out of stock". I imagine they have never had any stock. All a scam. And Mr Gadget review the ChopBox. I sent his comments and questions and asked him if he actually had one in his hands to review or was he just going with the advertising hype that ChopBox has put out? No response. ChopBox has done well! They have scammed investors out of millions of dollars on Kick Starter. Somewhere there is a group of people sitting around laughing at their investors and customers, while they count the money they ripped off.

Tip for consumers:
Don't! There is no 24 hour customer support like the website says. My order was sent to the incorrect address. The company indicated it was shipped on the wrong carrier. If any company can do it wrong in so many way, ChopBox has the lead!!!

Products used:
The company is located in Seoul, South Korea. The ChopBox smart cutting board is a new state of the art cutting board with a lot of futuristic features. Their web site is slick and very modern. Considering that the ChopBox cutting board is coming from South Korea, I imagine it's going to be nearly impossible to get it now considering that Corona virus is rampant in South Korea.

I bought a king sized comforter for my queen bed. My bedroom is red and black chinese. The comforter is red on one side and black on the other. It looked much nicer in the photo on the WayFair web site and the price was great. Unfortunately, it looks and feels cheap. Something like that probably needs to come from a local store.

Tip for consumers:
Choose carefully, glossy photos usually look better than the shipped item.

Bought this elec chain saw from Lowe's to help clear property that I just purchased. It's a phenomenal work horse. The chain is easy to tighten with just the turn of a knob. Cuts the largest trees like butter that I have had to remove. Self lubricating. Lightweight. Well priced.

Purchased a 14 kt gold 7 1/2" wrist chain from ClassyGlassandJeweles through the Esty.com website. The price was low and the quality high. I was impressed with how beautiful the wrist chain was. It was a perfect match to a 16" 14 kt gold neck chain I had also purchased through Esty.com.

Tip for consumers:
I have nothing but praise for this vendor. Fast, efficient, great quality, ridiculously low prices.

I have been wanting a battery operated mower for a long time. But was put off by the price. I finally bought a self-propelled, battery operated mower by Ryobi. I also bought a 2nd battery as a back up. I couldn't be happier with this mower. Although it does not have the power of a gas mower, it is quiet. I don't have to buy gas or oil anymore. I push one button and it comes alive. Pull one off two levers and it's off at a speed I select with a sliding button. I use it on mulch mode and it leaves no grass clumps behind. It is lighter than a gas mower. The handle folds into the body and the mower can be stored in an upright position or hung from the wall.
The following comments are added at a much later date: I had one of the larger batteries charging in the garage unattended. I did not know it had caught fire until my room-mate told me there was smoke in the house. Searched the house and found no fire. When I opened the garage door, it was like fireworks from the 4th of July. The batter was on fire and repeatedly exploding. (It was on a fast charger.) Used three fire extinguishers to no avail. Had to finally call the fire department. They hosed it with water. It took a friend and I two days to clean the worst of the smoke damage from inside the house. Still haven't done the garage yet. It destroyed my three tier tool box and all the tools in it. In all it probably cost me, including replacing the batteries and tools, around $2000 in damage. I still like Ryobi rechargeable tools, and will continue to buy them. But now when I recharge the batter, I run a power cord out to the driveway and do the recharging there. And I use the lower power charger.

Tip for consumers:
Never charge the batteries indoors. Do it outside in clear weather.

Products used:
Ryobi mower, string trimmer, tree trimmer, hedge trimmer and batteries.

Great web site. But they tell you the items will be shipped within 5 business days. I waited two weeks for chrome parts for my 1999 Ford F150 that I was rebuilding. After the two weeks, I asked the service reps at JC to canc my order and not bill my credit card. They told me they "may be able" to stop the charge but had to contact the manufacturer to see if they would stop the billing. "May" be able to stop the charge. I was furious and told them to either stop the billing because they had not fulfilled their guarantee of shipping within 5 business days. I now buy from Auto Parts Warehouse.

I bought a 16' 14 kt gold necklace with the recipients name, custom made, as part of the chain. Impressed with the workmanship and beauty of the piece. And got 35% off the normal sales price. It's delicate look and classic gold shine make this piece of jewelry an eye catcher! Highly recommend this seller to anyone. I went through Esty.com to purchase the piece for Christmas.

Tip for consumers:
Shipping is slow, but well worth the wait. Purchased through the web-site, Esty.com.

7/19/20

As you know, if you've read my reviews, I rarely find a restaurant that is so horrible that I can't find anything good to say about it. Bellissimo's Italian Eatery is that restaurant. And people know I'm exceptionally easy to please. My friends ordered garlic knots as an appetizer. They were not cooked all the way through and were doughy. My friends meat lasagna was cooked so much earlier that the bottom pasta was hard, dried out and burned. My other friend had a salad and was given dressing in a plastic tear open pack! My vegetable dish was watery with over cooked spaghetti. The vegetables had no flavor. I NEVER use salt and pepper because if food is cooked correctly you don't need it. This needed lots of salt and pepper. The only plus I can find for this restaurant was the waiter. He was courteous, professional and very accommodating. You can't give less than 1 star to a restaurant. If I could I would give this establishment minus 5 stars.

Tip for consumers:
Be prepared for substandard food that is old, overcooked and pricey. But great wait staff!

Products used:
Garlic Knots, french fries with cheese. Vegetables over spaghetti. Two salads. A meat lasagna.

  • Cracker Barrel

7/5/20

Previously I had written a highly critical review of another Cracker Barrel that I will never go to again. I recently went to the Cracker Barrel at 2151 54th Ave N, St Petersburg, FL *******. It was an amazing experience. The food was cooked to perfections, the waitress was friendly and pleasant and the restaurant was clean. I enjoyed that experience so much that I will return to this Cracker Barrel.

Tip for consumers:
Go! It's a wonderful restaurant experience.

As you can see from previous jabs, I have bought rainbow trees from several sources. The source I normally use has not had any rainbow trees since before February 1st, my last order. I cancelled that order after 5 months. I found Snyder and Sons on Amazon and took a chance in ordering 2 rainbow trees to replace the two ripped from the ground during Irma. What an impressive company! The trees arrived within a week in tough boxes, individually together. Each box is configured so that the plant is held securely in place and can not move around. Each seedling was packed in pot, the pot cover in a tight fitting plastic bag. On the top of the soil was wadded up paper towels and news paper to keep moisture in the pot. And a stake in the center of the pot to hold the seedling upright and damage free. The plants were in perfect shape, moist and VERY green. Hats off to Snyder and Sons Nursery. You are now my go to nursery for plants. (I do buy a lot of plants.) If I could give you 10 stars, I would.

  • Rigalshop

3/8/20

In January I bought a modern, trendy table light for my best friends, a couple. The light is called the Levia Design Lamp by Rigalshop. It was at a reduced price. I received an email from Rigal confirming the order and telling me the lamp was on it's way. After a month I emailed them again and asked them where the light was. I had not received it. I emailed them again this morning. And am still waiting for a response. This company apparently does not respond to their emails and has terrible customer service. I really wanted that light, but it now looks like I'm going to have to get my bank involved and get my money refunded. I asked them to respond by Friday the 13th of March.

Tip for consumers:
Don't. Apparently they don't respond to email and have no phone number to call. Lousy customer service and do not fulfill their orders.

Products used:
None. Has never been delivered.

I have been to the First Watch Restaurant on Bay Pines Blvd several times and am always impressed. The food is wholesome, delicious, fairly priced. The wait staff is superb. I've been a vegetarian for more than 30 years and can always find selections that I enjoy. I have never had a bad meal. And, there is outdoor seating. I will continue to go back.

I have been looking for a job and signed up to several web sites that offer help with finding jobs. I received an email from Employment Garden listing several jobs. I never signed up for this web site and when I tried to unsubscribe, the unsubscribe page cuts off contact. That makes it impossible to not continue getting their emails. Seems like a shady company that won't allow people to unsubscribe. And, how did they get my email address anyway?

Tip for consumers:
Don't even open the email. My security system tells me it is a malware site.
