I called for a $100 furnace rejuvenation in December 2017 and ended up needing a new HVAC system. I wasn't happy with the news and cost, but the technicians were very professional and helpful. The sales and customer service staff were professional and helpful. I was able to finance the work. I recommend this company.

My review is focused specifically on ADT's "Protect Your Home" service provider. Last year, I bought a house in a "not so great" neighborhood and was bombarded with fliers and door hangers from various security systems. ADT seemed to have a pretty good reputation and I had received an invite for $28.99 per month with free installation and a $99 gift card. I am on a tight budget so this seemed great to me. Well, the people who answer the phone and schedule appointments and the people who do the installation seem to work for totally different companies and tell you different things. I asked a gazillion questions before committing and was assured that there were no hidden fees, no additional cost, etc. I even mentioned a concern about the WIFI service in my area. Well, when the tech showed up, he told me that I couldn't use WIFI because of a "dead zone" in my house and then presented me with a bill for a few hundred dollars for equipment that wasn't covered by the plan I selected. He also told me a monthly payment amount that was much higher than what was quoted, after he had already hardwired the equipment into my home. I felt like I was a victim of a bait and switch. The tech told me to call the toll-free number for resolution as he was "only the installer". Then, they double- billed me and there was a processing fee to get the $99 gift card. I spent way too many hours on the phone trying to get things straightened out because no one seems to have the skills or authority (or even the desire) to fix things. I had to beg to talk to a supervisor. No one would notated the account so I'd have to repeat my story over and over. It took three weeks to resolve and the manager who resolved it sent me another gift card for my hassle. Another gift card I had to pay a processing fee to get. :( I am under a contract for two more years. The service itself runs fine and I'm glad I have the peace of mind that I have home security. I just think that these "independent dealers" are only in it for the money they get for sales and don't care about service. I called ADT corporate and they were very nice but they said they couldn't help me and I had to deal with the company who did the installation. I don't recommend Protect Your Home. I do recommend ADT, though.

When I bought my home last year, the seller gave me a one-year home warranty to Select Home Warranty as part of the deal. It gave me peace of mind that if a system had issues in the house, I'd be able to call for help. Well, last October, I had a water leak. I immediately reviewed my home warranty paperwork to make sure it was a covered leak and it was. I waited on hold for 4 hours to talk to a phone rep to place a claim. It took three days for them to dispatch a repair person to "assess" the leak. Then, the repair person had to wait on them to authorize the repair. The repair estimate was close to $500 and the company only approved $80. That's it. $80. And I had to pay $75 to have the technician assess it. I fought back and forth for days trying to get them to explain how they arrived at the $80. Every phone rep I talked to was rude and barely spoke English. Each one gave a different answer. I would get people pretending to be supervisors. They were scripted and the bottom line is - they find loopholes or make up one to get out of paying for anything that is more than $100. I did everything right. They still refused to pay. I filed complaints with the BBB and they lied to them about the resolution and claim to get the complaints closed. I reported them to the Attorney General's office. No one responded. I ended up cancelling my contract with them for a partial refund (less a processing fee) so that I could take my business to another company. I don't recommend them if you think you may actually need their help. Oh, I also discovered that they pad "reviews" websites with fake testimonials. One of the "supervisors" told me to go read reviews on a specific website as his proof that his company had good service, but I googled nearly 50 of the names on the website and NOT ONE of them came up in any sort of search results. Some of the reviews were identical and sounded like they were written by someone within the company. I even tried to use their bogus reviews to support my request for reimbursement because they said they "NEVER" pay for "installation" of anything but I found several people "thanking" them for the installation of things. So... yeah. Good riddance.

  • Nextdoor

I've been a member of NextDoor for a few years. My first neighborhood NextDoor was great. People conversed and shared opinions respectfully and intelligently. Then, I moved last year, and my opinion of NextDoor has dropped incredibly, mainly because it feels like my new neighborhood is run by a bunch of narrow-minded bullies who click the "report" button faster than anyone can say "open mind." My neighborhood's LEAD has very strong feelings about some social and civic stuff and if you don't support her, she targets you. I made the mistake of asking a question about a failed neighborhood watch program last summer and she immediately took offense and started to private message me about my comments. Since then, she has continued to single me out every chance she gets. There is inconsistency on the site in regards to solicitations and "be helpful not harmful" type posts. There is a lot of negativity on the site and people feel free to say racist and unkind things to one another. Unless it's a post to complain about something, you get overlooked or ignored. There is a definite high-school clique mentality, and sometimes, even some racial profiling. Some people are quick to call out their neighbors publicly for things instead of having an adult conversation. I've had to turn off notifications for just about every thread because I'm tired of reading the in-fighting and dozens of pleas to please join a civic league whose only mission seems to be to thwart progress. So... use with caution.
