Under appetizers I highly recommend the Cheese Puff (4) and Pan Fried Chicken Dumplings. We will try the Beef Pancake next time. There are a number of other possibilities. Be very careful when you are ordering. Where you see a red pepper the dish will be extremely hot. We all thought the Walnut Shrimp were absolutely astounding. We will order this dish every time we go in the future. I also recommend the Eggplant in Garlic Sauce. There are many dishes we didn't try including fish, fried rice, noodles and soup.
Reservations are only taken for groups of 6 or more. I suggest you go at an off time or be prepared to wait for a table if you don't have reservations

Flip'n Patties Restaurant
1801 Eldridge Parkway
Suite 108
Houston, Texas *******
www.flipnpatties.com

This is a very unusual Filipino hamburger restaurant for the Houston area that has my highest recommendation. Everything we tried was excellent. It started as a food truck and then expanded into a sit-down restaurant in Houston. I recommend that when you go, you go with a group of at least four people, if not more so you can taste multiple dishes. They are open 11 AM to 9-10 PM Monday through Saturday.

The hamburgers are made with Akaushi beef (which we had never had before, but we found to be very tasty). The Flip'n Patties burger comes with a large fried Panko stuffed Portabella mushroom stuffed with muenster and cheddar cheese (again we had never had before), bacon, lettuce, tomato and a spicy Tang sauce which you might want to get on the side. They are served on homemade buns. I suggest that you cut the burger in half, as it is a real mouthful when you start eating the burger. There are 5 other hamburger options. They also have a half a dozen French fry options.

The Chicken Pupu was fried chicken bites in a sweet soy ginger sauce. Think of thinly sliced chicken breasts breaded then rolled and fried. The chicken Pupu comes with rice and 2 Fliprolls. This was really a good dish. The Chix'n Joy had the Panko crusted fried chicken with pork belly gravy and an egg. Again, this was an excellent dish. Other chicken, beef & pork rice dishes are available, as well as appetizers, salad and other desserts.

For dessert you must order, the Halo Halo. It was shaved ice with evaporated and condensed milk, Haagen-Dazs Vanilla & Ube ice cream (which we had never had) with flan, jackfruit, palm fruit, coconut jellies, coconut strings and mung beans. It was outstanding.

In July of 2022 my wife and i and my 100-year old mother took a two week trip to Arkansas. Because of Covid some motels were not cleaning the rooms every day unless you specifically asked. Since we were traveling with my 100-year old mother I specifically asked when we checked in at the Best Western at 101 East Van Buren in Eureka Springs to have our 2 rooms cleaned because we were staying 2 days. The next day when we came back to the rooms after a day of site seeing and shopping our rooms were not cleaned. When I called the front desk they told me that the cleaning people had left and our rooms would not be cleaned. Obviously, I was an unhappy camper, but I thought that everyone makes an error occasionally.

On July 14th & 15th we stayed at the Best Western Winners Circle at 2520 Central Avenue in Hot Springs, AK. Again when we checked in, I specifically asked that our rooms be cleaned because we were staying 2 nights. The next day the same thing happened. Our rooms were not cleaned. I don't know in the future, if we will ever be staying at another Best Western, I doubt it. I recommend that you stay at other motels that are more reliable. We had no problems at the other motels we stayed at during our trip.

Tip for consumers:
Ask if they give a refund if they don't clean the rooms.

In 1980 I bumbled into a real estate deal where our partner was a billionaire from Kuwait. Through him we dealt with a who's who of people from the Middle East for a number of years. When they came to Houston they all wanted to go to 2 restaurants in Houston for Middle Eastern home cooking. Sammy's Lebanese (which closed) and Abdallah's Bakery. Over the past 40 years I have probably eaten at Abdallah's more than 300 times. The restaurant is set up like a small cafeteria where you can pick out items that are displayed or order from the menu. I can truthfully say I've never had a bad meal at Abdallah's.

Let's talk about some of my favorites. My first choice is the Baked fish, which is whitefish over small cut up pieces of squash in a mixture with other items. Unfortunately, this dish is usually only available on Tuesday and Friday. With each dish you get 2 sides. I usually get the egg omelet (Yummy) and the Kibbeh. The Kibbeh is a mixture of Bulgur wheat, onion and beef or lamb that is deep fried. Other recommended main dishes would be the lamb shank, stuffed eggplant, grilled half chicken, beef, lamb or chicken Kabobs. For vegetarians the Falafel is excellent. Falafel is made from ground chickpeas and/or Fava beans and then deep fried. The beef or chicken Sharma is really good if you are looking for a sandwich which would be like a large Mexican Burrito.

Some of the sides that I typically get are the lentils and rice with onions (really good), spinach with onions, okra, cauliflower, Greek salad, yogurt with cucumbers, house salad and Tabouli, among others. We also usually get Hummus or Baba Ghanoush to go with the freshly baked pita bread that comes with the meal. We typically take home from the bakery cheese bread, spinach pie, meat pies and Zaatar bread. There are usually a dozen, or so, desserts that are available.

Oh, I didn't mention that they also serve breakfast and sell assorted spices and goodies in addition to their baked goods. The owners have their own olive trees in Lebanon and sell olive oil, which we have used for years. The restaurant is a really friendly family business. The restaurant is open 7 days a week from 7 in the morning to 6 in the evening. They are located at 3939 Hilcroft, Suite 100, Houston, Texas *******. Their telephone number is *******747.

  • Dream Dinners

1/15/21

We have used Dream Dinners for over 3 years and have continuously experienced surprisingly good food. Once a month we pick dinners that we put in our freezer. The dinners are already prepared with seasonings and are ready to be put in the oven, broiled or cooked on the stove as we need them. We also buy separate vegetables, potatoes and desert items. Typically, selections are available monthly that include multiple beef, pork, chicken and seafood entrees. Dream dinners also allows you to go in and prepare your own meals to take home and cook as you need them. We use the Dream Dinner location at 5418 Hwy 6 #216 in Missouri City, Texas (suburb of Houston). We particularly recommend that you contact Staci, but we have found the whole staff to be extremely knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. Due to the Covid 19 problem Dream Dinners only has curbside pickup temporarily available, but plans to resume full service when the masks come off.

DO NOT BUY FROM ZOLUCKY. I ordered 10 shirts and 3 pair of socks. The order came back in 5 separate shipments over 2 weeks. 5 of the shirts sent were different colors from the ones ordered. The 2 hoodies that I ordered were plain t-shirts. One pair of socks was not the color I ordered. I emailed Zolucky to tell them I wanted to return a number of the items. They said I would have to pay the return shipping to China even though all the items were shipped from San Francisco. They also said the return process would take a long time. They then then offered me a 15% rebate on the items I wanted to return. THEY ARE SCAMMERS. DO NOT BUY THEIR PRODUCTS.
